It is nice to see a skilled Fisher man have a ruff day . It reminds me that it is truly not easy the fish can be there and as finicky as a little kid with a kitchen full of food and wine about nothing to eat . Of course live bait is always best it is truly Al about the bait 😎

This was a nice looong video. Although it's not constant catching - i really like it because it's longer and we get to feel the experience of being there too (a great sense of escapism when we are unable to get out ourselves). You really worked hard for them and it is appreciated. The effort turned into a nice combination of shrimp-catches-snapper and then snapper-catches-grouper! Thank you for sharing video and allowing us to spend time on the water wich-ya.

39:25 - you should never use any kind of and over-hand knot because it creates a weak spot. The best and strongest loop knot you can make is a 'Jig knot', which is basically a Uni-knot where, instead of tightening it all the way down on the lure or eye of the hook, you cinch it up a little higher than that so it creates a loop.

I just need to keep a weed whacker or pruning sheers on my yak for the amount of time i spend in the mangroves. I have a feeling though even the TV pro's spend a lot of time tree catching, they just don't show it.
@dcgo44r8 жыл бұрын
+Key West Kayak Fishing hahaha! Don't feel bad...it just come with practice...and a few lost lures and hooks. Sure the famous from tv shows do it too... but don't show it! lol! Man and those mangroves are tough and hard to break... I think it happens to anyone on the first tries. Probably you know this tip I learned also some bass anglers, is that when your lure/bait gets hang in a tree, just reel the bait slow as close to the branch and leaving a good 6" to 10" before going over it, then just give a fast yank with the tip of the rod just to make the bait jump over without the hook getting caught on the tree branch. Note: Lure/bait should come straight towards you (the direction your rod tip is at) to avoid further hangs in the process; be aware the position of your rod's tip so you won get hit!!! hope this help...once you mastered you won't believe how much work will take away. Maybe you can include in a video! fair winds!

How much leader do you typically use for tossing plastics in the mangroves?
@KeyWestKayakFishing7 жыл бұрын
Don't need a lot. Depends on the knot that I tie between leader and braid. If it is something that might catch on the tip, I use a very short leader maybe a foot and a half to two feet so the knot doesn't enter the tip when i cast. If I use something very low profile like an FG know, then I am fine using a long leader.

I have never caught a Redfish or a Sea Trout. We just don't get them down in the lower Keys. The upper Keys and across the bay in the Everglades they are prevalent, but down here it is pretty rare. Occasionally during winter the Trout will make it down, but it is really spotty and a very small window. The Red Snapper is really close to our Mutton Snapper.

So far I'm not turned on to tarpon fishing- seems like a lot of work with not much of a pay off and you can't eat them!
@KeyWestKayakFishing8 жыл бұрын
These are the babies I'm targeting in these videos. The Tarpon migration is when the big boys come through. That is my specialty. I'll chase after pretty much any species of fish and do catch and release primarily, so not too concerned about the eating part. They are big, acrobatic, and will hit a variety of fishing techniques. That is what makes them special. Not too many fish that matches that bill.

Figuring out a system/pattern is very important to me. Figuring out all those variables and being able to call your shots is something special. Plus, it allows others to give it a shot with a better than average chance of scoring a fish. Fishing down in the Keys is a lot tougher than it looks and I feel bad when people come down here with all the expectations and they have a hard time catching anything.
@dcgo44r8 жыл бұрын
+Key West Kayak Fishing 100% agree with you! I've been pursuing Tarpons since I was in my teens just for the fact this fish a formidable opponent and challenge. I heard all the time, I caught a tarpon!! and I ask: were you fishing for it, or it just came attach to your bait! lol! then just take the credit for fight but don't ever say that you are a tarpon angler! we use to take credit only if you touch the fish (land) but now in favor of a safe release you can call the fight at any time still count, but only if you call it! if you have intentions of landing it and breaks free...sorry that didn't count! anyways there are fishermen and anglers, and some of the first ones will never understand the second ones.

why the foam on the one rodeln?
