Can't believe I just sat here for an hour and 47 minutes, watching a KZbin video. Most of the time, I get over it within a few minutes because people have really poor camera angles, neglect to talk through certain processes and just expect people to know the little details that comes with experience and just all round poor quality videos. Dead set best instructional video I've ever seen. You're a bloody legend. Cheers

Anthony, just commenting to say thanks for the video. I watched it in its entirety first then watched it, pressed pause and play while doing the job. Invaluable info and the car is running great now (had a cracked MAP filter too). 2007 1KD Prado with 404,000km on the clock. Thanks again!!

I dared you mate. Thank you so much for the video. You have given me the education I needed to have the confidence to give that a go. I brought my Hilux into the garage yesterday because I’d had a loss of power on cold start up and black smoke on acceleration when cold. The mechanic said he was 99% certain that it was the valve that needed cleaning. I asked for a price estimate and he’s going to let me know later today, if it’s more than what I can earn in a full days work then I will bring the lux home and do it myself. Thanks for the brilliant tutorial.

Just want to say a big thankyou to you Anthony! I really appreciate all the knowledge you put out for all of us. I watched this in advance to see if i could do it myself then followed it step by step. Only issue I had was the 10mm upside down bolt left side of egr, quick run to the shop for the right tool and it was allgood. 103xxxk 2015 trd. Barley needed a clean but I did it anyway, 7mm plate. Ute feels noticeably faster and without a doubt be running better in the long run. Cheers mate love your work.

Hey quick question are there many ads? How many would you say and how long do they go for? Just curious because when I watch KZbin videos I seem to get a lot of ads and I see people watch a lot of my videos and I don’t make much money. I wonder what’s going on there let’s see what your answer is could be an indication
@jonyjonsy2 ай бұрын
@@Fourby4Diesel I did a small study for you, mate. I watched 7 different videos, and only 2 of them had ads pop up. The first one had 2 ads at the beginning (one short and one long skipable one). The 7th one had a long (skipable) add, too. My conclusion from this is that it seems they only put ads on videos over a certain number of views. The videos with only a few thousand had no ads. The ones that did have ads had more than 15k views. Also, the newer videos seem to have more ads, too (maybe they think it will have lots of views). So it's a combination of views, age, and maybe even the clickbaityness of the title, maybe? I hope that is useful to you, mate. Love from the UK!

The longest part was removing the plug on the common rail to install the plate. Ended up with a whistle from the plate on cold start up but it goes away when it warms up. Great video so far and very educational I’ve watched some of your other videos too and they are all great I’ve got a 2013 hilux sr5 and I brought new and a couple months after I brought it I got a very good outfit in Chch Nz to remap the ecu and I wanted to blank off the egr valve but they said it was easier to just shut it off or deactivate it they put a bolt behind the actuator to stop it opening or closing or what ever it does and did what ever they needed to the ecu to stop the egr light coming on It doesn’t blow any smoke and it runs extremely well I’ve also had a 3” pipe put on from the turbo back so it breathes properly it’s now done 200’000kms I change the oil every 10’000kms and after I change the oil I use cheap oil and tip it in and keep tipping it in till the it runs out the sump clean usually use 4-5 Litres then I put the bung back in and fill with 0w30 fully sinthetic oil and the oil stays clear and transparent on the stick for at least 6-7000kms then slowly darkens up but I can still see the metal of the dipstick through the oil I’m not a mechanic but I’m sure the motor stays so clean because it’s not circulating the dirty air back into the motor I would love to here your thoughts on this and what I have had done thanks very much and happy new year to you and everyone I’m going to finish watching your video Cheers Bob

Opened my EGR valve today on my 2012 Hilux 1KD and it was so clean it looked like it had the flow reduction plate in since day one. Unbelievable. FSH, started doing oil changes every 5K km since 170K km and currently standing on 235K km. I even checked if the EGR pipe was blocked! South African Hiluxes don't have a EGR cooler, just a straight through pipe to the EGR valve. Could this play a part in the EGR valve being so clean? The inlet manifold is also clean. Bare metal with a light oil coating. I'm stunned.

Cheers Anthony! Just did my 2010 SR Hilux with 220k on the clock, and as you'd imagine, majority was caked! Throttle body not so bad, but the elbow and egr valve were especially full, near 20mm at the elbow and could barely tell the shape of the egr valve internal. The manifold exit was caked almost as bad but once that area was clean, further in wasn't so terrible, but managed to shove a cloth or three inside, douse in degreaser and had a few goes of it, port side and other. Was a tad worried with the amount of degreaser i used but used absorbent towels to dry as best as i could to where i could get to. I'm guessing the big puff of white smoke at startup was all the degreaser being burning away? Also, the first turnover after completion there was a semi-loud knock, the second turnover after the first test-drive a bit of an extra click or spark, but by the third ignition sounds all back to normal. Not sure what the first two were, but back to how it was before the clean. Like probably everyone else here, I watched the video multiple times to get comfortable, and for a first timer I don't think i did too bad. All up about an 8 hour process for me, from setting up to garage and car looking like i had them before starting. Looking back the whole process is relatively easy beside the odd bolt/nut which were a bit difficult and things sticking to each other a bit given the motor hadn't been worked on for a while. I also went ahead and cleaned the cooler to egr valve section (the part with the annoying upside down 10mm bolts) aswell as the twin butterfly throttle part which precedes it into the cooler, just because they were easy to remove and easy to clean. I didn't have new gaskets for them but they were in good nick and just brushed on some gasket sealer before install. For anyone interested in doing this, I highly recommend it given how easy it easy, definitely not a clean process, but easy in hindsight, I've made a list of the following items that I think other first-timers will find useful before they crack on: Gaskets and their respective part numbers: - 26171-30020 Throttle Body x1 - 26171-30030 EGR Valve (both sides) x2 - 26171-30050 Elbow to Manifold Gasket x1 - 25627-30010 EGR Cooler to Valve (upside down gasket) x1 - 25628-30010 EGR cooler blank plate gaskets x2. (I didn't install these as mine was in good condition and from what I understand in the video - in order from head - gasket, blank plate, cooler, is fine to install so a secondary gasket between the blank plate and cooler isn't completely necessary. Feel free to correct me anyone, or I'll let you guys know down the track). General items. - Basic tools (decent 3/8 socket set - majority sockets are 10 and 12mm) - Flat blade screwdriver to slide off hoses - I swapped Anthony's hose removal tool with a terminal flat blade screwdriver to aid removing plugs. - Adjustable head 10mm ratchet spanner speeds up the egr valve to cooler upside down 10mm bolts alot - i personally didn't have one but can see how advantageous this is compared to just a regular spanner. - 2x cans degreaser, or do what i did and have 10L container of degreaser and pour into an oil pan with hot water and do all your cleaning in that once all the big chunks have been removed - 1x can throttle body cleaner - Lots of rags and paper towel Be careful with which vacuum cleaner you use in the manifold as it is grease/dry soot that you're sucking away and that will get into your vacuum and be a pain to discover next time you or someone else decides to use it. That goes the same with the vacuum end which will be covered in grease if you were as thorough as I was when getting into the manifold. It was 40 degrees celcius the day of the clean and once I finished and gave the car a test drive all seemed well besides the usual sticky accelerator/turbo lag but that always seems worse on hot days. The following day was much cooler and could feel the difference, not a massive difference, but power-on seemed more consistent, looking forward to see if the clean and 7mm blanking plate makes a difference to fuel economy. I was already getting 900km consistently per tank (75L), could push for 920L, so we'll see if any improvement happens.

Hi many thanks for this, just done the job on our 150 Prado something for others to consider. I was not able to get the restrictor plate in from the bottom despite much effort, ended up removing the water connection above it and doing it from there, you need to remove the hose to the cabin heater and the stand off that is bolted to the block to move the water connection out of the way, makes it a lot easier but be carful not to lose the gasket down into the skid plate below the engine, ask me how I know this! Once you have the plate on the studs re attach the water connection while the EGR cooler is loose or it is really hard to get the connection in between the timing belt cover and the cooler, tighten and then loosely attach the cooler over the plate, then proceed as per the video. I did not pull the wiring harness all the way back and worked around it, the EGR plug was very hard until I used a miniature pair of water pump pliers to release the catch and slide it off. It is the same at low power but if you push it the response is noticeably better, our EGR valve was similar to the ones in the video (100k km) so about a quarter of the inlet was blocked at that point. Obviously the coolant had to be topped up again, took it past the full mark with a litre of premix, ran the engine and turned up the heater to get that full and then had to add another half a litre. Once again many many thanks not an easy yob and messy but well worth it in my opinion.

Love this video, was able to follow start to finish without any questions. I do think i may have made one mistake, 3,000kms after doing the clean out i found oil pooling on top of the EGR valve assembly and the connector intake. Any ideas why this might be occuring? the bolts are all tight, is it possible to have overtightened and crushed the gasket too much ? or possibly damaging the surface when scraping off the old gasket?

Hey mate, I know this has been a while since you posted but I had this exact same problem. Turned out my turbo seals had failed and the turbo was pushing oil thru the intake (significantly more than the PCV blowby). Installed a rebuilt turbo and problem solved.
