This documentary web series focuses on significant topics related to the history of the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, a cultural arts organization based in San Antonio, Texas.
Founded by Chicana artists and activists in 1987, the Esperanza Center is unique in the variety of issues it is concerned with and how it approaches them through art, direct action, conservation, public talks, scholarly work, and more.
Since its very beginning, Esperanza has become a political force to be reckoned with and has collaborated with and advocated for many different groups and causes in the city.
Each episode of this documentary series is designed as a video essay that answers a particular question. The episodes incorporate interviews with community members, archival material from the organization, and public media.
Episode 2 responds to the question: How has been the experience of the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center as it relates to its queer and trans focus?
