In fact, they all discuss their love lives openly in the family and this is progressive! Also the main reason the show is progressive, because they are all flawed characters, none of them is the so called "perfect bahu" or "adarsh pati", they all have some flaws but at the same time they love each other.

This episode too is way ahead of its times! And i think it conveys two timeless lessons - 1) every woman desires a partner who showers at least some affection on her, if not lots. She also needs her partner to listen to her and agree to do what she says, if what she has to say or what shes trying to do is for his benefit or for them both. 2) Never take the matriarch of the home for granted. Or whosoever it is who mainly manages everything for everyone else. This person can also have her or his aspirations and probably did not anticipate having to manage others lives, but still does so out of love and affection. Always appreciate their efforts and listen to them. This was truly a fine episode. Except for the ending, I'd say.
