Im still shocked those beautiful dogs were ever off leash with that recall. I would have freaked out if one of them ran up to me on a walk. So happy to see how well they responded.

Very helpful training advice.I have a protective Bullterrier x who is very wary of people he does not no so I have to be very careful when people visit me and yes I always put him in one of the bedrooms and close the door before letting people in.I have had some progress with him but it has taken some time and persistence to get him to be more accepting of our visitors especially men.

Some people take a dog, not knowing how to handle them, give good leadership. Yes, all dogs get love. But to much… love is leadership and otherwise. A correction or be clear to your dog, doesn’t mean you don’t love them. Glad people search for help and don’t put their dog away. Hopefully they think twice when get a new dog. Raise a dog is hard work and devotion. Nothing is impossible. All you need is trust and patient.

I was really excited when I started watching this episode, our excitable dog acts just like Bisley and Maddie when we're out too! I was disappointed when all the training shown to stop the pulling was changing a collar, flicking the lead and magically they walked perfectly 🙄 Could we have a video with the unedited lead training please? Trainers always demonstrate with dogs that already walk nicely or only show before and after
@HS-wp5vb9 ай бұрын
Yeah well 3 cases in 44 minutes, it's clear they can't show everything. I don't thnik they pretend to. Though it is not just about changing the collar and flicking the lead. Clearly, it is about being calm and composed, showing leadership, and making the dog intently watch how you walk. Also, developing a positive relationship by giving praise was important.
@cherylmillard20679 ай бұрын
@@HS-wp5vb These shows promote unreasonable expectations when they edit out the training and corrections. In addition to reinforcing proper behavior with food, praise or play, developing a positive relationship also involves boundaries for behavior and clear fair corrections when boundaries are crossed.
@HS-wp5vb9 ай бұрын
@@cherylmillard2067 Oh well but it is television, not dog training. It is not meant to be an educational programme for overwhelmed dog owners. It's entertainment! Though if you watch several of these shows (and add Cesar Millan and Victoria Stilwell to your list), you do learn a heck of a lot. Owners not being calm, not giving clear commands, not taking a leadership position are the most usual ones. Many oweners don't train their dogs at all and then complain that they don't listen. Bottom line: all these programmes stress that it is the OWNERS who need correction. And that is a very important message. If the owners change their behaviour, so do the dogs.
@cherylmillard20679 ай бұрын
It still gives those who don't have a skillset for training dogs unreasonable expectations. I don't waste my time with Stilwell and was training dogs similar to what Millan was doing before he became popular. Other than that, you're preaching to the choir. At least Hall corrects the dog. @@HS-wp5vb
@m66669 ай бұрын
@cherylmillard2067 the editing only removes all the repetitions that they have to do as that is the basis of dog training. My suggestion would be that if you are still struggling with the dog training then perhaps you actually need to consult a trainer in your area since it seems that you do not have the knowledge or experience to train your own dog, and there is absolutely no shame if that is the course you need to follow because dog training is not always as simple as changing a collar because you also need to be able to read your dog and other situational problems.

Body harnesses rather than a collar only, with an anti shock leash will help too.

@@phild5454 Thank you. So we still don't know why he is being called a Boxer. My sister rescued a dog a few years ago. She was told the dog was a Shiba Inu- Border Collie mix. The Shiba Inu turned out to be Chow Chow, and the Border Collie turned out to be Husky and two kinds of Retrievers, according to her DNA. She's super cute, either way.

Never ever pull on the leash!! They can choke. Use a harness instead live Victoria.
@Elle-gv4gf7 ай бұрын
A harness is the worst thing you can put on a dog that pulls. A dog gets all of its strength power and speed from its chest. If you are holding a lead attached to their chest you won't have any control or ability to stop the animal. A lead on a collar controls the head, if you have control of the head you have control of the dog. If you look graham isn't pulling the lead or choking the dog he's giving it a small light tug as so remind the dog what to do. Big difference.

I find it funny that these women work with children so no boundaries or discipline there either? And why on earth are so many people opting for massive dogs when they are first dog owners.. start small I have to admit I also brought a puppy home when my husband and I divorced, my daughter was interested for six months after that the dog was totally my responsibility (hated it the being on my own with the dog not the dog)my daughter is grown up now and takes very good care of her own dog.My advice is, however, not to use dogs as therapy for lifes' problems and/or a bad conscience It is heartbreaking, though, that dogs are now "solutions" to single mums, one child families, couples that don't want to have children etc. loneliness is a social epidemic now

that works temporarily but doesnt solve the issue. its like not taking kids in public because they act up. how are they supposed to learn if they are never in the position to learn appropriate behavior since they are not being given the opportunity to do so. i would at least muzzle the dog before people enter and not hold him back or communicate with the dog in any way. dog needs to figure out people arent so bad.
