In this video tutorial, I share my complete Lightroom workflow for editing architecture. In this case, a photo of a real estate exterior taken at dusk. There are several challenges that need to be overcome in order to get a good finished photo. We look at basic adjustments in Lightroom and then get more specific with the edit using local adjustments. I talk through the aspects of why I'm using certain tools and sliders and why I apply them in the way I do. I dive into everything and no knowledge is off-limits.
For the finishing touches, as with all of my work, I let Luminar AI handle the wow factor. The subtle addition of intelligent contrast, saturation sharpening and more. All done with a simple one-click fix.
Thanks so much for watching! 🙏 I hope this look at my approach to editing architecture serves you well.

how does Lightroom's 16-bit HDR merge compare with 32bit Photoshop merge? Can one actually work with 32bit files the way one works in Lightroom? I can't seem to grasp that and the results if I tonemap in ACR are not that great compared to normal Lightroom HDR workflow.
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like HDR is part of your workfolw. I use it a fair bit too and after much experimentation my go to has become Aurora. 2 reasons, simple/quick to use, and more importantly the results of the autoblend are much more believe and authentic to what I've seen with my eye, than other HDR software. LR, and PS merge are both good options but you still need to caress the file afterwards to bring all that detail out.

Hey Anthony it’s me again! Amazing video again I learnt something new everytime I watched your video. You introduced Luminar to me and that changed my photography entirely. Thanks a lot ! What’s the difference between Luminar AI and Luminar 4? I have been using Luminar 4 for a year now and wonder if I should upgrade ? Thanks !
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 3 жыл бұрын
Hi again Ken. The main difference is that Luminar AI uses local masking, similar to lightroom, rather than layers. This has allowed the developers to build AI from the ground up and speed it up in the process. I prefer using it to L4 as I don't need the layers. But as you already have L4 you've always got the option of layers in that. Up to you though... 😀. The ATSKY10 discount code still works if you do decide to go for it.

@@AnthonyTurnham Thanks, I think a new one showing that final Luminar enhancement template that you apply to a file edited in Lightroom would be really popular!

Thank you! Very helpful information for me, as is usual with your videos. Can you please explain just what the ''auto settings'' tab affects in the merge HDR window? (I agree with your sharpening choice... Luminar AI does a better job than LR.)
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Fran. All it does is apply setting that the programmers of Lightroom feel are appropriate for your new HDR image. Without the highlights moving down and the shadows being pushed up for example you won't see all of the dynamic range the merge to HDR command has produced. However, personally I don't really like the auto settings and prefer to make the adjustments myself. The auto may provide a good place to start from though.

Hi Raymond, I show it in a few of the architectural videos... not sure which off the top of my head, but if you have a click around in the architectural playlist I'm sure you'll find it before long. If it comes to me I'll add a link.

I've loved your editing workflow videos - not only the how to make adjustments (with the odd tips thrown in) but also the why. The before and after views help show this. But I was wondering what your view is on the distractions in the glass panels? For instance the panel between the back of the pool and the wooden buiding was so dirty. And the panel in the foreground shows reflections of a garden chair. Does the client get antsy about that sort of thing? Or do you edit them out in photoshop?
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. It really depends. If it bugs me, then I'll take it out. And yes, I find Photoshop working on the final edit is the best way to do this. If something is really dirty though I haven't done my prep work with the client well enough. I try to set the expectation that everything needs to be super clean. Most of the time, the proud home owner obliges. I also consider the final output and the size of that output. If something will go unnoticed because it's so small, then I don't worry.

An architectural photographer who doesn’t even own tilt-shift lenses?! Sure, you can correct it in post, but you’re distorting pixels and losing quality.
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 10 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for raising the tilt shift issue. The quality of my final deliverable has never been questioned by my clients, publications or even printers doing large format billboards. It's those guys that are the litmus test for commercial viability. So if it's not an issue for them, please don't let it be an issue for you.
