I thought the matchup was interesting in terms of comparison to Issy v Shaun. Issy being similar to Nurmagomedov without the ground game. Would have been interesting to see if Pitbull had tried the Strickland approach of relentlessly marching forward, would the result be any better? Pitbull lacked the confidence in his defence against the barrage of kicks to close the distance and get on the inside for longer than seconds during the entire fight

I don't think that approach would work. Izzy is a great kickboxer, but marching forward with a tight guard, like Shaun did, forced him out of comfortable position and range. But...Izzy is not a grappler. Hence Shaun been able to use these tactics relatively safely. Usman is efficient wrestler too, so closing in with a tight guard would expose Particky to takedowns even more. As i see it, he would be very vulnerable to leg sweeps and would end on the ground any time he'd try to walk forward.
