Yoel is just a unique specimen, he's one of the very few people on Earth that can compete competitively in such a physical sport with even those half his age after 20+ years going at it. Prime age of MMA and combat sports is usually older than the prime ages for non-combat sports.
@davidng8870 Жыл бұрын
he prolly has declined athletically by a significant degree but hes adjusted his style to accommodate it. he moves less, is more of a counter striker, explodes less dramatically and shoots less than in the old days. also he is such an experienced fighter now and so relaxed in there. i think the peak Romero was the one that fought Rockhold and Whittaker the second time and maybe Paolo too despite his stupid gameplan in the first half of that fight. He was more technical by then and had evolved his defense with the parries and relied more on fundamentally sound rather than wild unorthodox attaxks but he still had a bit more in the tank and was not as passive as he is (and maybe has to be) now
@gavp1336 Жыл бұрын
@@KWillo I think I'd agree the, let's call it, "competitive range" is longer for the heavier weight categories but it doesn't mean they're at their peak, it's more to do with your ability to maintain strength, which a healthy person can even into your 40s/50s (I know because I used to be a trainer), but speed will inevitably decline. This is evident if you just look at football (soccer). The prime age is actually around 30, there are some that can go on longer depending on their position and reliance on speed. There are some freaks like Ronaldo and Messi, but these are few among many and even then, they're not in their peak at 36-38. Anyway, Yoel would have lower stamina than compared to him 10 years ago for example, he's just carved from stone with unbelievable power
