Love that APU sound! Also a shame that Aloha Airlines didn't rotate their 737NG's between inter island and the mainland like Southwest to solve the engine overheating issues with the continuous short flights between the islands.

Very interesting comment. I wasn’t aware of the overheating issue. Could you take time to elaborate?
@dynasty00193 жыл бұрын
@@poppiarlin5612 Modern engines like the CFM-56, burn hotter to increase fuel efficiency and takes longer to cool down after flights than old first generation engines like the JT8D. Aloha Airlines ordered 737 Classics and NG's to replace their 732's in the 90's and 2000's, but the -300's and -700's had trouble with engine cool downs during inter-island flights. So Aloha ended up had to keep the -200's, which increased fuel and maintenance costs, and was one of the reasons the airline later folded.

I'm 35 Years old and I have been a Plane Enthusiast ALL of My Life, However it was only about 2 Years ago that I found out that there was a Boeing 717. I Got into the Love of Planes when I was younger through My Father taking Me Plane Spotting All around the UK's most Biggest and Busyist Airports Plus Museums and I Don't think My Dad was even aware of a Boeing 717 as I Don't think there are Many of them here in the UK.
@sla313 жыл бұрын
You'd be correct. I don't think many 717's ever graced the skies of the UK. Volotea, which I believe is/was a Spanish carrier operated some for awhile. Also, Blue1, a Finnish airline also operated some for awhile, but now you can only find them flying actively in the US, and Australia. I believe Qantas, Delta, and Hawaiian are the only carriers still flying them now. A bit of a history without blabbering on forever. The 717 was originally designed by McDonnell Douglas as the MD-95, but ended up going into production as the 717-200 when Boeing and McDonnell Douglas merged during the final stages of the aircraft's development. This makes the 717 the last true McDonnell Douglas designed aircraft to still fly regularly scheduled passenger service, as the MD-80's are all but gone, and Delta Air Lines flew the last ever MD-90 flight last year. You can actually find that flight on my channel.

Do you think if the 717 was branded as the MD-95, it would have been retired with the rest of the MD-80s/90s by Delta?
@thecaynuck46943 жыл бұрын
Doubt it, considering it's quite a bit newer than the MD-80/-90.
@sla313 жыл бұрын
Oh, probably not. Boeing still would've had to support the aircraft, and I honestly don't think Delta could have retired them earlier. They are too big a part of their operation. They really haven't had anything to replace them with until the A220 now. So, I think they would've been around just as long even if they hadn't gotten rebranded.

Whats with the C1 (I think) Jetway 47:30 at HNL is/was that for A380's?
@sla313 жыл бұрын
Yes, that gate was designed specifically for ANA's A380's. ANA has the smallest A380 fleet, and it was purchased specifically to put on the Japan-Hawaii market. Even with the pandemic, ANA still plans to use the A380 on their HNL routes.

Seems like the crew only set the takeoff flaps when the roll began. An aural alarm will sound if throttles are advanced on runway without flaps set.
@sla313 жыл бұрын
You're not the only person who has mentioned this. Over the years, I've noticed that the flaps on 717's can be very deceiving. For example, the first setting off flaps is very difficult to see when it's been set, making it look like no flaps are extended, but in reality they are. The movement is so small, it's hard to even notice it. I believe what we're seeing here is an optical illusion caused by the aileron moving slightly during the takeoff roll. If you watch closely at 5:23, just after the pushback, you can see the flaps extend ever so slightly. The flaps also extend SUPER fast on the 717, making it even harder to see. Blink and you miss it. Then as we start our takeoff roll, the aileron moves up slightly, giving the appearance that the flaps are lowering. In reality, it's really the aileron moving in line with the wing, and the flaps had already been extended. Thanks for watching my friend!

Never say never, but flying Spirit is not on my list of things to do. I flew Allegiant once, and it wasn't horrible, but the flight was also only like 40% full. And it was during a time when I was trying to find more interesting stuff out of TUL. You know, pan ddmic and all, I was trying to stay closer to home. After Spirit's complete operational meltdown yesterday, it does't make me want to fly them anymore than I did before, that's for sure. Who knows. We'll see what happens, but I'm definitely not committing to flying on Spirit anytime soon.

Why did the Southwest have its strobes on at the gate?
@sla313 жыл бұрын
I imagine because the crew forgot to turn them off. They were on the whole time they were at the gate, so they likely just missed it on their checklist. Obviously, we left before they did, so I didn't get to see if they were shut off after the next pre-flight walk around.
