Great video for someone who just dived into cinematography like me. Thanks man, you really helped me understand the basic of crop factor on different type of lenses and cameras

2:45 your just wrong. When you are shooting with the sharpest part of the image circle on APSC, but the middle of the image circle is rarely sharp enough that it is better or same sharpness as just using full frame. Even the worse image corners will still usually look better on full frame than the corners using the same lens on APSC.

I'm using a FF 24-70mm Sigma art lens on my sony a6600 currently and it's a great combination. My other lenses are all APC lenses.

I also have that lens and it's my most used lens on my FX30. Still don't have any APSC lenses though

Hi mate, thanks for making a really concise and informative video. I have a Sony a6700 and I'm planning to purchase the Tamron 70-300mm FF Lens. This would make it the equivalent of a 105-450mm beast.

Great clip. Just to understand better.... if I use a 85mm f1.8 full frame lens on a crop sensor it will be 123mm f2.7???
@itmeremy
@itmeremy 9 ай бұрын
Something like that. It'll still be 85mm f1.8 but you will get some light loss due to the sensor size. The field of view would be similar to a 127.5mm on full frame but depth of field won't be the same. I'm actually going to be making a video on this topic soon so keep an eye out for that in the next few weeks

Thoughts on sony 24 - 105 f4 on fx30?
@itmeremy
@itmeremy Ай бұрын
@Sky_633 I haven't used that lens but I know it's very versatile. It'd be a very good range and if you don't need a wider aperture than f/4, could be great

Does the fx30 pair well with the 50mm 1.2?

That is an amazing lens so I'd imagine it would. That's actually the next lens I want to get. It'd be a 75mm full frame equivalent but if you have an FX30 you'd be use to focal lengths being what they are on APSC

@@itmeremy I found a killer deal on one and was thinking of grabbing it, I started on a 50mm so im pretty used to the tight 75 look, and I want sharpness!

There are TWO reasons to use APS-C lenses on APS-C Bodies instead of FF-Lenses. Price and weight! If both are not important for you as you e.g. have your private slaves to carry your stuff around, and if you don't know anything to to do with your money, you are absolutely right the better, heavier more expensive lenses are built for FF. But take into account only roughly 1% of the photographers use their gear as the would discover the difference, 99% of the trophy is shared on social media, displayed on SMALL displays (32" 4k and smaller) only a small amount of the pictures is printed bigger than 60"*40" or displayed on 8K 100" displays where the audience is sitting 2" away with a thread counter. The controversy Medium Format vs. Full-frame vs. APS-C vs. M43 vs. actual smartphone is the most overhyped controversy. To be honest 0,1% perhaps needs medium Format, further 0.9% needs at least FF, further 4% needs APS-C, further 5% perhaps needs M43, the rest of 90% would be perfectly happy with an actual Smartphone (all these number completely includes the so-called Pros. The other discussion ist the "wanna have" Factor. I just wanted my FF (as i had allready same FF-capable lenses), BUT i don't think i need the trinity for it, as we are talking at least of a 5 digit number and rougly 6-10 kg additional weight, my private slaves refused to carry around the stuff and my family says before discussing that investment the holiday season has to be planned (and guess what there won't be remaining money) I have always my smartphone with me which weighs roughly 200gr., if i plan to shoot ( but not knowing what) i carry my APS-C with 2 to 4 leight weight lenses (10-20, 18-135, 55-300, and a 50 prime) with a total weight i can carry around easily in a small bag. Carrying around HEAVY, EXPENSIVE gear has to be planned carefully. How long are the transportation passages, Enough Space, more static and planned exposures.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here, you said a lot of stuff that I don't think is particularly relevant to what I said in the video. Sure, FF lenses are generally heavier and more expensive. The reason I only have FF lenses is because I can use them on both my FF body and my APS-C body. No one is saying you have to get a full set of lenses for anything. And sure, a lot of people may not care whether something was shot at 4k or on full frame, but there absolutely is a difference and most people can still tell, even if they don't know why.

My strategy is also to buy FF lenses and install them on the apsc body. In fact, it is not directly related to the size of Cmos. The key factor is that camera manufacturers put most of their professional functions into FF cameras. I believe that if camera manufacturers want to develop professional-grade APSC It's not difficult, but they don't do this. Sony's APSC alone has only one SD card slot. Using micro HDMI will cause you to encounter a lot of inconvenience at work, and your colleagues will also complain.

@@user-bv4zy4kj5g fair point about features, except the FX30 that I showed in the video has all the same features as the FX3, including dual card slots and full size HDMI
