I totally agree. I was made to do my national service as a retail salesperson for the Salvation Army op shop, (despite my education and training in IT support and network administration.) I printed my own Salvos Stores nametag that read in fine print "A work-for-howbad-government-slave-labour-program."

I did work for the dole as a qualified teacher - couldn't get a paid teaching position, they sent me teach in a school for free. Never have I felt so exploited. Ended having to work overseas until the economy improved. Seems a bit ridiculous waste of human resources for the "clever country".

Working for the dole doesn't work. It takes jobs off those willing to work by putting in someone who doesn't want to be there. If 10 people work for the dole, that's 10 opportunities for people to work and get a decent income. Work for the dole sounds good until it puts decent people out of work.

If the job is worth doing it's worth paying at least minimum wage for. Work for the dole undermines the labour market and reduces the wages/conditions for all workers

not really true, not everyone has the ability to upskill and function in the modern workplace. youre living in a dream world, fact is some don't have the intellectual capacity to work even the most basic jobs yet are not disabled enough for disability so land in a grey area

@@newbleppmore7855 then frankly they can go fucking die for all I care. Why the fuck do I have to pay for them to live. If it was a charity sure I would help but the government untimatly enforces everything at gunpoint. I have to help some fucking mouth breathers or die. That's the choice.

Free handouts… the dole is $346 per week for a single person, and you have to not only work for but but must be looking for work too.
@markv1274Ай бұрын
I'll take Bertrand Russell's view over yours any day. Russell essentially said that even if you're not working and you're receiving a payment from the government, you're still contributing by spending your money at local businesses. Additionally, Russell said that the best thing that anyone can be is a good person. Even if a small business loses, say, ten per cent of its income, that's a huge blow to the business. Now imagine if the ten per cent or so of people receiving money from the government were to stop going to a small business, that business would definitely feel it. Another thing to consider is that people who are out of work still pay tax every single time they buy a taxable product. Johnny Howard was paid far too much money for being the Prime Minister. In addition to his inflated salary, he received a free car, free accommodation, free interstate travel, free international travel, plus his house in Kirribilli (which he didn't need). Yet people will complain more about the unemployed than they will about politicians, who do very little real work and are paid much more money. If somebody is out of work and collects money from the government, that's that person's business. You live your life, stop worrying about someone receiving a relative pittance from the government. You should be more concerned about the glorified bureaucrats (the people in Parliament) who try their best to drive this country into the ground.
