The game is designed to factor in deaths, both accidental and not, hence the very generous number of lives allotted (along with still letting you have more lives even after all has been used as long as you survive long enough). It also means people are inclined to play lower difficulty to limit deaths, and not complete sub-objectives over extraction, when given a choice. On a related, I wonder if there is a cap to the death penalty given it's possible to extend the death count far beyond the base of 5 per player.

Some other things worth noting: 1. When a defence fails the planet will go to the enemy but will start at 50% liberated. So if you see a planet with low player numbers but a decent liberation percentage don't be fooled into thinking it will be an easy capture. 2. If divers are split between two liberation campaigns we are essentially competing against two regen rates. It is better to focus on getting one liberated first then the other. Ideally the one with the higher regen rate first. 3. If we are split between a defence and a liberation it is better to focus on the liberation first so as to prevent the regen undoing our progress.
@ludewich2 ай бұрын
This is highly useful advice! Just one question: in (2), why would you prefer the harder one first? I would go for the one with the lower regen rate first (assuming both are at zero initially).
@timbertv55252 ай бұрын
About your 3rd point. If the liberation will take too long the defense mission may fail, and then it's sometimes better to lose like 1%/hr during the 24hrs it lasts, than lose control of a planet and 50% of another planet. Because 24% (or less) is still better to lose than 50% of another. But players will always be split. Also worth to note is % gain per hour per player differs on the two types. And Helldiverscompanion % gains shown is very off early in liberation stages on the Helldivers side.

The math on that is really tricky (and that's probably the reason why Eravin didn't show it). On the one hand, a solo trivial diver has easily double to tripple the impact of a helldive squaddie. On the other hand every instance of damage reduces the impact of every other instance within 30 minutes. If there are enough instances of damage, that are reduced in impact by the solo diver, the aggregat effect will be negative. There is however a tipping point. If you are working a planet away from the majority at low tide (6-12 GMT e.g.), solo runs do have a very outsized impact, because they double the exp gain and there aren't enough instances for their reduction to bring the contribution down into the negatives. Even if the cumulative would be as servere as -1% net for every instance of damage, a single team of 4 would be slighty better off to do 5 Trivials each in 30 Minutes, then doing one flawless 30min Helldive together. There is also likely a contribution floor as well as the global ceiling to be contended with. BUT: If you follow Eravins advice to work at the most populous planet, it is save to say doing so in teams of 4 at the highest tier you can reliably complete is overall most efficient.

Good to know all of this, even as someone who did find the companion app before this video. But it does just make me wish even more that contributions to a planet's liberation/defense were done on a per-mission basis instead of a per-operation one. The amount doesn't even need to be changed, just divide it between each mission so that it doesn't feel like a slog. They can penalize the contribution of divers who abandon operations attempting to quick-farm single missions or choose to reward dedicated divers with an increasing bonus to their contribution after each mission for successfully completing a whole operation. Those are just my thoughts. Personally, I don't like having to go through the whole operation before seeing that my actions did something. I doubt they'll change it since it drives player retention and engagement, though.

The in-game planet info tab just does not show enough information. The supply lines are also a recent addition. AH should find a way to display all the info that the helldivers companion app currently displays. I have a question - this planet health pool you talked about - you mentioned everything from main quest to side quest to time remaining affect it. Do we have to complete all missions in the operation for the health pool to be affected? Does doing only 1 mission in the 3-mission set yield no result to the said planet health pool?
@graveyardshift66912 ай бұрын
No but those missions have stacking modifiers. For every mission in an operation pool you do, there's yet ANOTHER hidden modifier that increases your contribution. It doesn't matter what order you do them in, only that you complete the pool or 'operation' as it's called. You jump from operation to operation only doing the first mission, you're contributing less. Doing the second (and third) in an operation pool activates a bonus at the end which impacts the liberation rate. So some missions that have less XP available (typically the high value rocket extract and horde wave missions) if done later in the operation pool can actually contribute higher if done later. Otherwise you can instead max out a higher XP one to contribute more. It USED to be that failing to do all missions in an operation would penalize the liberation rate but when they overhauled the liberation system to what it is now, that's no longer the case.

TLDR: just dive on the planet with the most helldivers.

Fingers crossed we get at least some of this info on the holomap in tomorrow's patch.

Is it just me or does Eravin v-tuber model remind y’all of Swedish Chef with how his hands are moving? It’s probably just due to his elbow being off screen and the arm moving kinda randomly, but I can’t unsee it now.
@eg11622 ай бұрын
@1.21jiggawatts2 That's because it practically is controlled the same way. Puppet hands are controlled (usually) with a black rod the puppeteer uses to control the position and rotation, and the elbow just kinda hangs there. Similarily, I think the tuber model hands are controlled via VR controller, which know XYZ position and rotation (also finger position sonetimes) and software guesses (inverse kinematics) where the elbow goes.

The fact that they don’t teach this to new players is baffling to me.

I believe there is also a modifier based on the percent of players on a planet. I have seen liberation rates spike when we get over 80 % of the active player base on a planet. But maybe I am wrong.

If the bot front was fun and fire planets weren't hell I feel like there would be a LOT more cohesion

I was this years old when I learned we are playing risk, but reversed. We are just playing the fights over territories. We are the dice.

So I’m curious. Is it good or bad that I’ve been spamming trivial missions? You mentioned it’s better to have less deaths and more time remaining (I always have over 90% time left and don’t really die on trivial missions). Or would it be better to dive the max difficulty I can, where I extract with several deaths and very little time remaining. Or better to just go for the middle ground between the two (like doing easy or medium, with little to no deaths and an ok amount of time left). Also which of the above would be best for a defense campaign? And sorry if you answered any of these questions in the video and I just misunderstood it. I’m a bit tired at the moment 😅. I had just watched a different video that mentioned that trivial was the most efficient because of how fast you could get them done. Also I think I remember seeing the timer on defense missions get more time on it when I complete an operation or mission (not sure which as I was just chilling in low level missions at the time). But someone did mention that trivial missions were efficient because you could do them Super Earthly fast and each one “counts as a completed operation.” So yeah, just wondering what your take on all that is. And thank you for the info! I didn’t know most of this, so thank you for spreading the information around to your fellow divers. Edit: I’m also curious about this because I’m wondering what’s most efficient for my personal time playing as well. As I was doing trivial missions just because I could get way more done in the time I have to play.

The biggest determining factor for finding the most "efficient" way is how the liberation scaling function (Impact modifier) is calculated, if you spam trivials you may do slightly more damage personally by the end of you session but everyone else online at the same time as you will do less damage as a result of the extra instances of damage you are putting in the modifiers calculation. TLDR is on the grand scheme playing the highest difficulty you can full clear and extract will yield the best results for liberation. Death penalties and time remaining bonuses will never be large enough to compensate for giving up the larger difficulty multiplier your liberation gets from higher difficulty missions.

@@MarshallMarshall90 Got it! I’ll change up what difficulty I play on. See you out there, and happy diving!

A factor that always gets left out of these discussions is that many players simply pick a planet based on what kinds of missions, planetary effects, and biomes they want to play. I'd wager that at least 20% of players at any given time don't care about galactic war progression at all and just pick planets based on what they want to do that day. People were begging for supply line visibility and other key info on the war table for months. It was provided and... nothing changed. People still play the planets they want to play. Adding regen rates and other info will not fix that. At some point you have to accept the compromise the game made with immersion for the sake of player freedom.
