A few ways that helped combat become quite enjoyable for myself 1: I switched to controller (the haptic feedback was nice when fighting ghosts & it added to the impact) 2: I made great use out of the rifle. It's fun & making it a part of my playstyle mixed with melee & switching to Antea kept me doing all sorts of crazy stuff. Takes a few hours to get the musket though. 3: Practice the skill combos instead of ignoring them 4: Keep playing as the combat like most of the game gets better the more you play. I know don't do reviews that often but I hope you all found some value in this video! If you have any questions let me know & I will try to answer them all. Thanks for watching. I love that dontnod is not afraid and take risks doing different genres (life is strange, jusant, vampyr)

I didn't know they were behind Vampyr. I know them more for Remember Me (played), Life is Strange (not played), Tell Me Why (played). So in that context I think pulling off a successful combat system is a big deal.

I love how their game are bland, hell even their main male character has the exact same haircut as in Vampyr. Haircuts from 2020's. Shitty Unreal Engine usage and ... damn these characters look like they come directly from a badly chosen pre-prod illustrations.

It's almost giving me God of War 2018 for combat feel! I do like they have the option to easily switch around your skill points instead of feeling like you missed out by not taking X over Y. My first time seeing about this game so good exposure!

the lock on sucks but apart fron that its all good but not on PC the console version is fine but the PC port looks amazing but crashes often. in fact its the only game that has crashed so often in 10 years and before you ask its not my PC as many other people playing it on PC have the same problem.

I have to say I appreciate this review style, particularly the breakdown into parts like audio etc, and it not being an all good/all bad review and you discussing your biases as a reviewer (preferring rpg to action for example). It definitely feels like the way I discuss games with friends and trust this sort of review more than a lot of meta commentary where its very polarised by publisher or politics. Thumbs up, review more stuff Wolfheart :D

Thanks Cernunnos. I'd like to do more! The problem is time & risk. Spend 25 hours playing a single game, 15 on the video, and then pray that it get views which are not guaranteed. As a one man team (who does not have Mortismal gaming super powers) it's tough to for me to commit to doing reviews all the time. I love playing games but I also am much more committed to staying healthy these days & I of course gotta pay my bills lol A failed review (view wise) is a full week of work gone, and then I either don't make money that week or I have to spend 80 hours at my PC to make up for it. 1st world problems :-D

Thanks for the review wolf. I have been interested in this game in regards to entertaining my time before my real interest and time investment with dragons dogma 2. Research into banishers left me with thoughtful assumptions that your video here furthered to confirm. It really does give me strong, greed, fall vibes, and even though, like you, I prefer a true RPG, immersive experience… Greed fall also spoke to me with a immersive world and story as a heavily action adventure story game with those RPG elements. So I’m picking up on a strong similarity with banishers in that regard. Again, appreciate the review. Definitely think I’m going to spend some time with this game before dragon dogma 2 . 😉👍

I agree with you about Red being treated as though he is stupid all the time. I am enjoying the story, but there is far too much hand holding. The game doesn't even let me have 5 secs to figure something out, without Antea speaking down to me. Let me figure it out myself. If I get stuck, then have an option to ask for her input. They did this in LA Noire. If you weren't sure on the case, you could ask your partner, who would then give you a hint. I have been playing TR Trilogy remaster, as not played those games since I was a teenager. Really enjoying the fact that Lara isn't talking all the time and I need to figure out the puzzles myself.
@favoritedarkness10 ай бұрын
I have to say this is one of the things I don't like in the game, which is a shame considering their "love" story is supposed to be the catalyst of your choices most of the time. I never felt connected to them and Antea explaining things to Red like he was a moron diminished his capabilities (when he can clearly do just fine on his own and is good at his job) and insulted me as a player.
@FoxyFoxlyn10 ай бұрын
@@favoritedarkness I agree with you. I couldn't stand Antea. It didn't feel like a relationship at all. She was constantly speaking down to Red, like he was a moron she just has around for convenience. If I spoke to my bf like that, he would tell me to piss off. As I would him, if he spoke to me like that. It wasn't good. Which was a shame because I found the concept of the lore interesting. I also got fed up with the butch girl bosses in every community. The men were weak etc. Glad I rented it and didn't waste my money on it.
@favoritedarkness10 ай бұрын
@@FoxyFoxlyn I haven't yet finished the game, it's really sad when the protagonist is ruining the experience, make no mistake this is an Antea game, not a Red game or even Red and Antea game. I got really immersed in the lore and the stories, the writing is amazing and the acting as well, such a pity that ironically the main character is the one who suffers from current day media cliches (by the way, I am a woman who completely believes in independence and making your own way in life, but who also believes in love, commitment and loyalty). And then the game wants me to become a serial killer to resurect her and believe that they're soulmates and would warrant Red breaking everything he believes in for her. I was completely detached when I had to make that decision, no way was I going to risk Red's life for the likes of her. I never feel like Red was Antea's equal, but her pet whom she has to explain the subtext of each interaction as if he was an idiot. She's created this situation where he thinks he's nothing without her and this is basic narcissist and manipulative behaviour. There is no way in hell that's a healthy relationship. If maybe it would have been handled like this: look, I am dead now, you need to learn as much as you can about this job for the remainder of the time given, just in case something goes wrong if you bring me back or ascend me (in which case she would be gone for good). Most of the time I don't feel like she's encouraging Red to get better, but criticizes him or make him feel like he wouldn't be able to handle himself without her.
@FoxyFoxlyn10 ай бұрын
@@favoritedarkness Yep. You stated it perfectly. I am a woman as well. I sent the game back to Boomerang, but never finished it. I just got so fed up with the dialogue between them. He seemed like a puppy waiting for his master's approval all the time. A real relationship, you support each other.

@WolfheartFPS11 ай бұрын
I would call it semi-open world. As you progress you unlock more of the map. You can't just go anywhere off the start. Once you have discovered several areas you can go back, but the game does have plenty of defined pathways. So nothing like The Witcher or Skyrim open world, but you do have some freedom.
@stephenmeinhold54526 ай бұрын
it is an enjoyable and engaeing game and the story and voice acting are up there with the best. the console version is fine but sadly the PC version keeps crashing for no aparent reason, i thought it was just my PC but i looked online and a lot of people on PC are exprencening the same thing. you would think they would fix it or at least aknowledge it but sadly, no. apart from that its a sleeper hit.
