That area around the pond would make a great space for another herb garden. Thyme and rosemary would look great there. There are cute little ground cover thyme varieties. Would be cool.
@KatesGarden2 жыл бұрын
I was kind of thinking the same. Not sure how it would look but seeing as there is a mounded area, it will need to be drought tolerant which is why I was thinking Mediterranean herbs.

That cactus costume is so cute and hilarious at the same time. Dragondore has so much hair😂. My luffa put on multiple flowers but it never produced. I guess maybe it wasn’t pollinated but the bees pollinated my tomatillo, cucumber and watermelon in the same area.

Love this video! Btw, my loquat tree in London has been flowering its socks off for the last month. It's very old and I inherited it when I bought the house and had to prune it a lot after uncovering it from inside a jungle of other trees and shrubs. This is its first year flowering since I've owned it. No idea of variety, it's probably a seedling. But I was surprised how early it is flowering.

I'm glad you've been getting good rain down there! I don't think I could ever move from the PNW and our deluge of year round rain, the thought of being in CA and not having rain for months is so wild to me. The trade off of course, not being able to grow as many plants, but it's so green here all year! I hope the weather gets cold enough for your brassicas for the rest of their season and thank you for the costume laughs!

🤣🤣🤣🤣Jaques as ..that cacti is hilarious. And Kevin, that costume makes you look super tall...taller than you say. Lol I love that method of harvesting beets. I do it with turnips as well. Once the bottom of the compost gets going and there is a good amount of the right bacteria and fungus cultures working, run it through the chipper then re stack it while adjusting the moisture. It will be a lot less volume and should really start cooking after that.

Around the pond seems like a good place for some nice flowering pollinator plants. Maybe even some native riparian plants, perhaps? Monkeyflowers are always fun, Cardinalflower, Yerba mansa, Western Columbine, there's lots of pretty flowers that should pull in all kinds of pollinators to your yard and would be happy growing in the moist area right next to a water feature.

Suggestions for around the pond (Zone 10, right?): Hardy banana (very tropical looking), Yucca, Agave, &/or Mangave, Pineapple sage (possibly evergreen in your zone), Cuphea "Candy Corn" (possibly evergreen in your zone), Lantana (possibly evergreen in your zone), Fuyu persimmons (self pollinating variety), Podocarpus (grows a bit tall, but easily managed), Callicarpa=Beautyberry "Welch's Pink" (pink berries) or Pearl Glam (purple berries), Fringe tree "Tokyo Towers" (space-saving conical growth pattern), Groundcover Rose "It's a Breeze" (red is especially lovely), Dwarf Fig "Little Miss Figgy" (stays around 3'), Gardenia "Scentamazing" (compact @ 2' or so) &/or "Diamond Spire" (unique foliage; conical; 3-5' ht. but only 2' wth.; LOVE this variety!), Blueberries "Rosa's Blush" &/or "Jelly Bean" (both dwarf @ 1.5-2'; may not have enough chill hours to fruit in your zone, but blueberries have lovely, 3-season foliage), Agapanthus (beautiful blooms; leaves probably evergreen in your zone), Nandina "Lemon Lime" (evergreen; nearly bulletproof; will contrast beautifully w/ Loropetalum "Purple Pixie" I listed in an earlier comment), Ornamental grasses, such as Lomandra "Platinum Beauty," Pittosporum "Wheeler's Dwarf" (compact, mounding; 3' ht., 3-5' wth., tho easily controlled). Also, 2 vining plants should you decide to add an arbor nearby: Grape "RazzMatazz" (native cross; seedless; extremely hardy & tasty), Jasmine "Star/Confederate" (evergreen foliage; Heavenly scent).
