Full House At Snapper Rocks - Monday 3 January 2022

Some big waves rolling through at Snapper Rocks this afternoon even after a significant drop in swell throughout the day. Not hitting the banks perfectly but still plenty of fun ones and a big crew out making the most of it.
Apologies for a little bit of camera shake and wind noise at times, the wind was gusting at around 65km/hour from the cyclone so there wasn't anyway to escape it.

So true I remember when I was surfing out were that guy got taken by a shark a while ago and I saw a big dolphin fin and thought it was a shark so I Paddled as fast as I could all the way in it turned out it was just a dolphin 😅

I swear most of the time you surf these spots you can’t enjoy a lot of the waves you catch people just all in the way and it makes you draw a weird lines and always dodging people.

I love all the people who clearly see the guy bottom turning toward the lip and they just kinda hang out there in the lip for no apparent reason so the guy has to fuck up his turn. Now imagine if it was reeling barrels, chandeliers every 5 feet

@@thedailysurf I was there back in 2005 and surfed around greenmount and a little further north and the waves are still really good and hardly anyone there, I must have only surfed snapper and kirra a handful of times and mainly surfed dbah with the blue jellyfish things near greenmount. I found snapper the best time was just before dark for the slightly smaller crowd.

Before I ever surfed there you look at the crowd and when it's not that busy you think oh I'll get quite a few today but it's not at all it's like you say constantly paddling toward the point and constantly paddling for waves incase the guy Futher up falls or misses one lol I would always find myself going in at snapper and ending up surfing toward greenmount for the peace 🤣 this was 2005 so things have gotten even worse now

it makes me think what some people's expectations of a surf are, mine are a couple of hours in a break with single digit people 10 to 15 decent waves, and home. To some of these people, it must be if I cant snag just one shitty wave i'm done.

In Snapper, when you trying to catch a ( ONE/ONLY/ UNIQUE) wave half of the thousand surfers there will try to catch the same wave and If you got by a miracle the other half will be rooting for you taking a wipeout and if it this not happen, some guys will drop in on you !!

Thank God I left the Goldie in the 90's. I mean it was definitely pretty competitive when the swell was up at Burleigh or Kirra, but 100% there was a hell of alot less dickheads in the water. Respect has gone to zero

Surfing in 2021 parallels with house prices. Everyone trying to get on board to their benefit. Just got to reflect on the 1980s/90s with only moderate crowds and lots of long rides most of the year. Loved Cyclone Betsy and Rewa in 1992 around Snapper and Greenmount.

Wow, perfection, but some,I got ,so many dudes, Farken drop ins as well. I was surfing there in the late 80s with China, DJ and Big Al to name a few. I'm in up North Dallas Texas USA nowdays.. Man, but seeing this and remembering the waves I got, the people, the lifestyle,, makes me miss it. Theres a wave pool approx 2 1/2 hours from me, I gotta check that out. Last surf I got was in mexico, I g, well he got enough waves on the rented longboard lucky, that spot was breaking and this old fart at 53, got enough waves to confirm its like riding a bike! Enjoy it while you can before Putin Farks up the world and where all living underground!

Back in the 70s I surfed Snapper - running all the way through to Greenmount beach - with only about up to 15 guys out. Yes really. Many many times. The section in-between Snapper and Greenmount you had to bounce-push it to get through where it went fat, but the bigger ones you could do it. Snapper itself used to double-up and peel really shallow all the way nearly to Greenmount point. I'll never forget those days.
