When selecting kitchen cabinets you might want to consider using drawers instead of cupboards for the lower units, it makes it so much easier to access pots, pans, odds and ends without having to crawl on the floor to look to the back of the cupboard. I used this option when I remodeled my kitchen a couple years ago and I absolutely love it.

Agree - drawers for the lower storage - makes accessing things so much easier! Maybe 1 cupboard to store appliances not in use. I'm sure you've already planned for that - seems like you've thought of everything. Great watching this all come together!

Put a box that is 48" x 48" on the outside of the house that has a door. It would attach to the side of the house next to the wood stove There would be a door on the wall inside. Stack the firewood in the box Open the door on the inside to get a few logs to put in on fire. The mess stays in the box outside.

As someone who also heats with wood I made some major decisions when we built our house 11 years ago. The decisions centered around wood storage, where it comes into the house, and placement of the wood stove. For us the wood stove is placed in the center of the house, just inside the mudroom door into the living area on its own separate tile floor, to make sweeping up easier. The mudroom has a storage nook for a couple of days wood and everyone coming in the back door is requested to bring in one piece of wood with them as they enter. This plan keeps the mess in one area and I no longer have to carry wood through the house to the stove as it was in our old house. WE also started with an open plan into the kitchen like you have. The wife wanted to change it up a bit so some of the kitchen was not viewable from the great-room so that the 'mess' could be hidden away if necessary when unexpected people dropped in. And if the dishes don't get done right away the sink full of dirty dishes are not center stage. Keep up the good work. We've been enjoying the channel for quite awhile now. lg no neat sig line

I like the idea of part of the kitchen hidden from the view in th living room. Sometimes I just need to get away from the crowd and have a cookie and cup of coffee by myself. Just a few minutes to breathe if we have a house full. The wood mess is never ending, I also like a little wood storage in the house. Hate going outside in the middle of the night after wood. It takes a lot of planning, then a person can Always think of something when it's too late. Love the house and have truly enjoyed watching the build.

Couple suggestions. Low voltage wiring for any exterior features like outside and inside music, cameras, alarm system and so on. Plenty of ceiling lights especially in the kitchen. New vinyl flooring will last you a very long time and the colors and wood grain simulation are amazing. Tile looks great but that environment with grout it will become dirty very quickly. Plus much easier to install. 6” floor molding. Put in a separate shower wand for your bathroom showers while you have the walls open. The ones you buy as additions are always too short and they leak. Looking forward to seeing it finished! 👍🏻

I have a family of five here with three boys/now men and a wife and daughter. When I renovated the bathroom I added something based on having a seat being left up repeatedly and having my little girl fall in the toilet one early morning. I included a waterless urinal in the plan. It only needs to be tied into the drain because it uses a fluid filled trap that’s built in. I bought a “uridan” fiberglass waterless urinal. Best decision ever, no more seats left up or spatter to deal with, plus it helps keep bacteria down being a dry unit. Just throwing the idea out there for you guys since it’s still early enough to modify your plans to add one if you’d like. I just built a half wall and built a cornered wall for mounting it. Whatever you decide to do is going to be amazing, that home rocks! Thanks for the tour😉✌🏼

As a former window treatment provider, my question is will you want to have the option to cover the big slider for privacy or energy saving in the winter? If yes large windows like that can be tricky, and probably a flat panel drape is a practical choice. So they can pull aside on both sides would there be room on the wood stove side to be safe? Could the wood stove be away from the corner a bit? You have such a nice large overhang on that wall, that summer heat probably won’t be an issue, but will an uncovered window wall be cold in winter?

Just a thought on your propane tank, the boiling point of propane is -45 F (or C) so at your cold winter temperatures, you may have difficulty with delivery pressure. I advise you to use a remote fan for your kitchen hood. Even the most expensive vent hood are incredibly noisy when operating. You should take care of this before you insulate and close up the ceiling and walls. Don’t fail to insulate the vents duct work. This advice comes from a retired kitchen designer/ builder. I enjoy your videos and watching your family and homestead grow. Best wishes.
@louiswarmoth73542 жыл бұрын
I’d like to add that you should use hard tubing for your vent and grade it to the outside. The flex tubing sags over time and will collect water…after all, most of what you’re out venting is steam and odors. In cold weather steam will condense into water as it hits the cooler air in the tubing or pipe and leak onto the surface below, in most cases a ceiling. If you use seamed duct pipe be sure the seam is turned up to help prevent leaking. What ever you use be sure to support or hang it securely to maintain grade. Not easy to use, because of transitions, but PVC pipe is an option worth considering.

I have two adult daughters and nothing goes backward. So, I have two suggestions. 1. Rent the tiny home to me for $1,000 per month and use that as your excuse. 2. Tell your daugther that you didn't do all that work for nothing and to give you guys as a family a least a full year. For all the work and dreams you've put in, a year is not much to ask. I've though a lot about your family after having my own. I am quite certain you will look back to these times and to your tiny home experience as being among your best memories, and probably thee very best.

@@michaelw1665 I explained why it's a sad thought. And of course, they could rent for it for more. But why would they even rent it out at all??? It was humor, a jest, a silly joke. I'm surprised anyone would take it serious. It makes no sense for them; none. Thanks for your attempted assistance, but I'm fine. I hope people respond to your own comments in the same helpful and inquisitive way. take care

@@michaelw1665 If you thought THIS family would accept 1k a month or any price, and if you think that after all this family has explained about wanting to be together as a family and their plans for the house, and especially the great room which was designed for that main purpose, that they would 'not' feel or notice their oldest daughter wasn't there with some sadness when they move in, then no amount of work on a punch line could help you to understand my thoughts. I wonder why you're so concerned about me. There's a lot of life out there, maybe you could find some of your own? And while you're looking, remember that not all humor has a punch line.

@@michaelw1665 Yes, I hope you do. I was very happy with my comment. The comment was not made to you. I did not ask for your advice. I do not know why you need my attention. Though I expressed some appreciation for your advice, I was only being polite. I've tried to continue to be polite but when people become so needy for verification they continue beyond what is normal for most people, I must stop giving them that attention. I believe any person reading this exchange will understand that to continue with energy-sucking people is not wise nor healthy. It causes levels of discord below what I will accept. You can tell me all the things you know but I see what you don't. Respond or not, I really don't care. I do hope Good Simple Living notes this comment, your attitude, your claims, and remember you either for credit or concern. I don't expect you to understand. I will remember you fondly as a sinking ship proudly sailing.

Lovely layout! The big room reflects the mindset that most of the time everyone is together…love it! Bedrooms are nice size and follow the mindset of “(insert air quotes😂)quiet time here, but all else in the big room.” Beautiful plans! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi another great vlog. Thanks so much. I’ve enjoyed watching you. Last year I was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. I beat the odds it was discovered to have come back 2 weeks ago. In my brain and spin. No stopping the train this time. Will enjoy watching what I can. All the very best
