Published by SkyAviator.com in honour of the Captain Maido Veebel. Estonian Air no longer flies the Boeing and operates CRJ-900 and Embraer 170's instead.
This video includes two flights in Estonian Air Boeing 737-500 flight deck which are Tallinn (Ülemiste) -- Oslo (Gardermoen) and Oslo -- Tallinn. The friendly crew in the cockpit are captain Maido Veebel and first officer Andres Berens. The journey begins with preflight preparations. Flight OV135 suffers a delay of about 15 minutes in Tallinn because of the high amount of people in the terminal which caused a lot of stops for the passengers. When pushing back from the gate 2, all the procedures regarding the aircraft's departure can be seen including the panel configuration, ground crew discussion with captain and then take-off briefing given by the first officer during taxi. While in cruise, the pilots take out the charts for Oslo, listen to the ATIS, fill in the weather information on the landing card and program the FMC (Flight Management Computer) for the arrival route. In Gardermoen the aircraft is re-fueled and prepared for the leg back to Tallinn. You can see the programming of the FMC unit from the very beginning and a peek to the cabin while the airport staff cleans it. As the stop time at Oslo is only 45 minutes, everything has to be done quite quickly both by the pilots and the cabin crew. All the checklist procedures can be seen throughout the video from Preflight Preparation to Shut Down and ATC can be also heard in the background all the time. After watching the video you will probably have a quite good overview of all the normal procedures, cockpit layout and how everything is done in a 120-seat airliner.

Excellent video, outstanding work Estonia Air. Who doesn't love the squatty body 737 in beautiful blue colors? I'm always complaining about adding music to videos, this time I love it, perfect traveling music. The detail showing the instruments, programming the flight management computer, being able to follow the checklist as buttons are pushed, switches flipped, was something I haven't seen before. I believe Southwest bought the only -500 and -700's "shorties" I've seen before, maybe United or Continental had a few that were used at other airports, they remind me of the classics the first aircraft I had ever flown. I think this is the first time I've seen the Captain handle all controls rather than asking the 1st officer to take up the landing gear for example, early in the flight. What's wrong with you people who disliked this video? You will never find a "flight" video that more realistically gives you a good look at how pilot's operate an aircraft. I fly much less complicated single and double spinner aircraft, this video shows everything a pilot goes through, all the steps and how busy it gets with the radio calls and ATC "noise" meant for and generated by other aircraft in a busy flight corridor , destination weather reports, the math

Excellent video. This reminds me of how many people used to tell me how "quiet" must be up front, but it's actually quieter in the back. The ever present wind noise, and God forbid you have a slight pressurization leak of one window. The squeal used to drive me nuts. Thanks for sharing. So sad for the captain loss. RIP.

Haha, so true. Thanks for your compliments. I'll do my best to take an even better video soon on one of their ERJ170's or CRJ900. Not as cool as a Boeing in my opinion but still something more modern to also see.

I hope that in the future they can come up with some ultralight sound proofing material that's gone block out 100% of the outside noise, that would be awesome to have zero engine and wind noise while flying. And i am pretty sure they will.

Haha, never thought of this myself! You are absolutely right, should treat it gently :) Actually they were really passionate pilots and the first officer still is. He's now also flying as captain on ERJ170 and CRJ900 in Estonian Air. I hope we can make a few new videos soon.

Thanks! They tested autoland therefore the autopilot had to be on until braking. Since Tallinn Airport has only CAT I ILS, they ofcourse monitored the aircraft's flying techniques especially carefully.

Thank you, you answered two questions in one shot, so it is possible to autoland a Cat III Aircraft in a Cat I certified Airport, i've seen in before but no one could answer me that , i've always tought that both the airplane and aiport needed to be capable of autoland... in other worder Cat III ...

+embrj145 Category has nothing to do with autoland or manual. Category reffers to minimums

I just thought that for the Airplane to be able to autoland, both the Airport and the Airplane needed to be at least cat III certified....

@bobbypaluga4346

donwert We don't become familiar with the Estonia pilot's as we do with the MD-11 Lufthansa freighter pilots, however it's very sad that such a skilled aviator lost his life while training a potential pilot. The outstanding Estonia video is all business, which goes along the visible programming of the instruments, communications with controllers etc. I'm sure the loss was a blow to his airline and country. Estonia isn't in the US news much, but this plucky little country has been under threat from Russia and its dictator Putin who seems to want to forcibly put the old gang (Warsaw pact countries) back together. Skilled pilots will likely training their countrymen to play a part in securing the Baltic state's future.

Bobby Paluga Where is 🤔Estonia? I am not too good in geography. Sorry to hear of the Captains passing, do you know where this happened? Did they crash? Any details at all? I read you don't get involved with them but... People who really enjoy watching your videos of what goes on in the cockpit before a flight, during the plane racing up the runway, (I love that ) during the flight, then coming down for a class act touch down. Well, it's natural people end up taking a little interest in the people they see working in your videos.
