Flying had never been on my radar before, but recently my Uncle passed and left me his Cessna 172 in his will with a letter about conquering ones fears among other things. I have been learning everything about the plane down to the nuts and bolts and am just starting to look into flight-school (fully funded by him as well). I have watched a few of these now and it has me shaking-nervous and kinda terrified-excited...in a good way. Watching these and having a level of familiarity with what I am about to walk into is going to work those nerves out of my system ahead of time and I think it will make the whole experience much smoother. Thank you for the fantastic videos. Fly Safe o7

Yes! What an awesome uncle, and what a wonderful gift (specifically the letter about conquering fears). Cheers to being terrified-excited in a good way! I'm a paraglider pilot and am very familiar with the nexus of fear and excitement. I'm terrified of it, but yet there is something so magical about literally soaring with the birds. I wish you the very best as you face your fears and venture into the skies!

@@Grazzio558 jets don't have keys. if you know how to operate a jet (airliner or private jet) you can start it without keys the problem is getting TO the plane because of airport security then fighter jets and stuff i believe the only reason planes like cessnas have keys is because of the magnetos. maybe for a little bit of security too, idk

The mark of a good teacher is one who makes complex subjects seem easier, builds confidence - no condescension or impatience - and helps you relax while remaining focused. You exhibit all these positive qualities. Your methods also mean I don’t have to search through tons of KZbin channels on aviation to understand something not explained or missing in a video. Great work. Very enjoyable to watch whilst also learning. Love the availability of online teaching to help reduce costs and make aviation more accessible to more aspiring pilots.

It’s really not as bad as it seems. All the comms follow a certain formula that’s easy to catch onto. Once you learn the formula and learn the phonetic alphabet it’s easy. For the Formula, most of the time you just say: [1.] state whoever it is you’re contacting (if it’s your first contact with them) (i.e. *San Marcus Ground or San Marcus Approach*) [2.] Your tail number / callsign (San Marcus Ground this is *skyhawk 80991*) [3.] State what your intentions or have ATC tell you what they want you to do (*Skyhawk 80991 taxi via Alpha-Charlie-Juliet hold short and wait runway 13.*) [4.] Readback what tower has told you and proceed from there. Edit: Callsign can sometimes be last too.

Can you tell me is it a "Pilot" thing that requires you to shout out loud "Yank That Cyclic" when you see a helicopter? I am assuming that you were unable to shout loud enough for the pilot to hear you from that distance, I wonder if Helicopter pilots yell out "Open Your Flaps" when they see you approaching - Obviously you would not be able to hear them either. But if you both knew that you were both secretly shouting out encouragment to each other, it would be quite comforting i suppose, like "Brothers In Arms"

I flew in cessna like this once, but there was almost no talking like in his video. I guess it was like that because it`s just a small airport, only time the pilot was talking with flight control was before flight.

I love the gear call outs in a 172. It's definitely a good habit to make sure it's down and welded, because in the future it might need a flip of a switch. I have yet to land with the gear up, but there was That One Time, when after 3 go arounds (due to them 172's buzzing that airport like it was a raw steak in July) I was a bit slow on extending the gear when turning base, and the tower pointed it out. Who knows if I would've caught it myself. But since then, I've not needed reminders again. Anyhow, my Missus never noticed it, so it must've been one smooth operation.

I would hoping to see you touch the clouds but they were about 1,000 feet above as you remained at pattern altitude. Great video outstanding light touch landings. Loved the "instructor voice" , the camera work, heck just about everything; however, being your Dad's age, I can't abide tossing the smart phone "projectile" onto the back seat. You may have tossed it in a soft-sided flight bag that I did not see. Also, I don't care how hot it is, I was taught to never flew with shorts on for obvious reasons. You are one of the most informative flight vlogers on the net (along with steveo kinevo). Always look forward to your posts.

Tho I never flew with him because he would always shout sing frank Sinatra songs and like to mess around (He knew his limits but still, I fly cautiously and follow everything because of all the stories from other pilots of being lazy and almost dying.)
