I went into the demo cautiously optimistic after hearing people complain that it was "micro heavy" , but I ended up being rather impressed. I tend to *hate* micro heavy games because they often don't allow you a chance to actually witness combat. But I didn't find I had to micro much at all in the demo. They really throw you into the meat grinder without having you prepared at all, which is kind of fun having to experiment and figure things out on your own on the fly, though I imagine a lot of people could be turned off by a lack of any hand-holding or guidance. The visuals are excellent, especially for an RTS of this scale. Seeing an ATGM flying at some enemy armor which (sadly) slips around a corner at the last second, and seeing the ATGM slap into the side of a building... I could almost feel the chunks of concrete and glass. Or a BTR firing its autocannon into a building - it's truly beautiful (and horrifyingly violent). And then the sounds! Like above, but this time HEARING that ATGM slap against a building - or when it actually connects with enemy armor... it's glorious! Great sound in a game helps set up a better and more immersive experience and this demonstrates that. Seriously - why do many AAA developers still skimp on good sound? Besides the 'interesting' voice actor choice (maybe it's just me but while he does a good job, there's some discernable accent), I also had some performance issues when I tried to zoom in close to a fight. I think I had my settings initially too high but my PC locked up for about 10 seconds before I could go into my options to turn a few settings down. Overall I was really impressed and am hoping we get some more demo action in the future before release. Oh and finally, "Omaha Beach 2.0" was really cringe!

@767corp Some micro is interesting, some micro is not. Perfectly microing a tank to keep it safe and firing at ideal targets is interesting or engaging, and not something that a computer would do better or that could be automated. Having to load infantry into transports isn't in any way interesting or engaging, when it could instead be automated to free the player's attention span for combat. I played the demo and didn’t very much care for it. It seems like they were going for a mix of Wargame and World in Conflict. Problem is, it has the low time-to-kill, Line of Sight rules, and importance of Range of Wargame, but none of the tools (LoS tool, range tool, etc.) to help you navigate that. And, it has the faster pacing of World in Conflict and its map design, which basically amounts to low time-to-kill grinds in highly lethal packed environments with not many options to deal with it efficiently lol. The problem really is that it kind of wants to be a more arcadey game like WiC but when mixed with the lethality of Wargame its just a bit of a clusterF.
@tastefulavenger Жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. Having a sight bubble around units when selected to display ROE is a very needed addition.
@ARescueToaster Жыл бұрын
This battle is supposed to initially be a very difficult slog through an urban environment. Fighting from building to building with limited units against a larger, dug in enemy with artillery, armor and AA coverage. Of course it's going to be nasty with close-range grind when you don't have your own artillery or armor of your own! And I don't know, maybe you haven't played it in a while, but units die very quickly in WiC (which I still play regularly). Calling in gun runs to knock out rows of enemy tanks. Carpet bombing runs that would kill damn near everything in a large path. Or maybe the nuke which would wipe out damn near everything. And then even just among units, a couple Bradleys of BMPs using their ATGM skill could kill just about any armor, instantly. Tanks with white phosphorous can rapidly squads of infantry. Then on-map artillery units and helicopters also have high lethality, though they are somewhat fragile and also cost a good bit of points to field. Finally, and this is going on longer than I intended, but I think it's fine without an LoS or range tool of omniscience, though it's possible (and likely) that they will add one before release unless they have a reason for not doing so. You can already check LoS and range from target to target by hovering over a unit with one of yours selected. I guess it would be helpful to have them, though I think it's too gamey to have instant knowledge of line of sight and point to point ranges for every single point on a map. I didn't see any infantry hauling around surveying equipment!
@mavor101 Жыл бұрын
They need to *greatly* increase the per-unit AI so that you don't have to micro so much stuff. If they want Warno-sized battles with 4+ tanks, 10+ vehicles and a bunch of squads, you can't ask the player to also manually press the flare button on helos and things like this.

I played the demo myself, and I figured out that you can bring in air supply from the helicopters they give us. It's almost the same as the truck, but you just pick a helicopter and then click the supply button above where you would select units to put in. Then, you can have your unit (helicopter) fly ashore and drop the supplies with the normal controls, but be careful they don't get shot down. They are also very slow to land and drop supplies. Hope this helps Vulcan! Oh, and one more thing, if you pick up your pilots from the water, you should be able to get some of their unit cost back. I figured that out on one of my demo runs when I was curious.

@@tigereyes2012 Agreed. I think that it says "Alpha" in the demo and there isn't a release date nor price set says exactly that most of the game isn't there yet. Warno has a much bigger team and has changed immensely since it was released into 'Early Access'. When Slitherine and Steel Balalaika have a finished paid product it'll be the time for reviews. Even then, if you don't like the game you can refund it. I think there is a fair chance that development could continue for years and end up in something incredibly feature rich and solid with a robust modding community. Releasing expansions to fund continued development. Looking at the Total War Warhammer trilogy development. It still has a lot of what I would consider 'Early Access' or 'Beta' issues. The game looks and feels hacked together over 8 years to me and I doubt Creative Assembly will put effort in to make a cohesive quality standard across the game. The demo gives us a great opportunity to watch what the developer does with all of the information gleaned. I think that seeing what actions they take will really tell us about their character as a company and from there it will be easier to get a rough estimation of where the game will end up. People were incredibly negative about Warno when it first released and beat up Eugen for releasing it in an 'Early Access' state into 'Early Access'. Eugen has added so much to the game in such a comparatively short period of time to a lot of other developers. That speaks to their character as a company for me. I hope Steel Balalaika has a similar character.

I really dont like the fact, that you have to manually use flares on helicopters and aircraft. It feels like you have to do so much micro, that activating flares seems a bit too much. I would prefer the ECM system from Warno and Wargame. Also, manually adjusting height of aircraft?! Cmon... UI looks clunky, you dont really see which units are selected. Instant jumping in and out of buildings is also too cheecky. And this game NEEDS a Line of sight tool. Otherwise you dont have any intel on your units range capabilitys. If you want some advice with Modern strategic employment, using infantry support vis with 40 mm and .50s and moving inf before armor, and jus that overall picture lmk. i work with a ton of this stuff irl I can help out slightly. I can do this without giving any classified info away, its not like our strategic capabilities are online any way lol. Force multipliers are a big thing you didn't fully utilize, I understand you were new the game, but I would offer my services to help inform you about some of these assets.

What year is this supposed to be set in? The rifles all have modern optics and grips but they’re still using Dragons instead of Javelins?

great video mate. I am looking for a Worno/Steel Div 2, style game with as little micromanagement asp. Seeing here that you "need" to activly press on every unit to order them is not really great. Understanding that its a work in progress, a lot of QoL improvements could or should be added. It does look good though, a game set in "today" is what i am looking for. I have tried Regiments published by MicroPros, but its just warno light. I am a single player person, so Multiplayer PvP is not interesting me.

Oh god.... I was wondering where the tomahawks were fired from too

I think a really cool feature would be something like binding artillery to infantry. Designating a supporting fire unit for another unit. For example, let's say you have a squad in a building, and another squad shows up and starts attacking them. The artillery that you bound to your infantry gets the location information from your squad, and starts firing immediately. Sure it's going to use ammo fast, but that's the con to having auto firing artillery supporting friendly units.

Yeah that could be an interesting mechanic.

Compared to World in Conflict? Which one is good?

World in Conflict is a classic, 16 years old now and still one of the best modern war RTS games. We are still waiting to see how Broken Arrow polishes up.

Slower paced? MICRO? :D To me, this looks like EXTREMELY fast gameplay with MBTs getting killed in 2-3 seconds, completely MACRO style on the level of HOI4 where you just tell your units where to go GENERALLY and they deal with everything combat-related on their own. Maybe it's my lack of experience with these games, i am more of TW, SC and COH player in terms of RTS, but lol... i found the words "slow" and "micro" very curious when used in context of the gameplay.
@VulcanHDGaming Жыл бұрын
What I was saying is that the game makes you player slower because you have more micro to do. In comparison to the other games I play like Steel Division 2 and Warno, it is slower in that regard.

This looks 100x better and more realistic than WARNO or Wargame! also the cold war trope is kinda dead by now, everyone is interested in current conflict, so having the ability to play scenarios in the Baltics is really interesting! looking forawrd !

This game really lacks enviromental destruction. It is very dissapointing to see all these artlillery explosions do literally no damage to buildings. I understand that it may be difficult to balance this issue and could affect your pc perfomace (considering the size of a map), but they should do at least destructable small houses and maybe some effects (not full destruction) for high-risers.
