Honestly I think Chan got robbed just based on his skating skills. Chan has much stronger step sequences than Hanyu. Not to mention his line and edges are the best we will see.

@@1984stackhouse yuzu got level 3 ss here tho so chan WAS better here in terms of ss but he lost bc that night yuzu was better (made less mistakes on jumps and had faster and more centered spins as patrick slightly mucked up the last spin) skating is more than step sequence so as a whole he was definitely NOT robbed. he was the favourite for gold and it was his to win/lose here tbh

В 2014г я не смотрела фигурное катание мужчин-одиночников. Знала только Ягудина и Плющенко из России. Я даже не знала, что есть такой замечательный фигурист Юдзуру Ханю. Спасибо, что есть такая связь, что есть интернет. В 2018г тоже упустила олимпиаду, потому что наши мужчины-одиночники не были в числе победителей. Сейчас я уже фанат Юдзуру Ханю с чемпионата мира в Стокгольме, вот и тогда я стала смотреть катание одиночников. Каждый день смотрю катание Ханю! Каждый день восхищаюсь его катанием!! It's not only interesting the see how Yuzu has changed, the other skaters in his generation have all changed drastically since then and held on despite the fast evolution of the sport. It's a shame that 7 years from that day there, figure skating has come down to how many quads can be jumped. Patrick Chan's skating skills were superb, I was hoping that many skaters would follow or surpass him, but so far only a few could manage and Yuzuru Hanyu is one of them.

@Justin Taveras Yuzuru did and I still think the same. The sport is called "figure skating" and the race to jump more quads is causing the quality of jumps to decline. There are many men and women skaters today (some with gold medals even) who cheat on their technique just to be able to land more quads. Chan didn't compromise his technique or his skating skills or his content to cope with the trend. He may have lost many times against Yuzuru who did more quads but I admire him for keeping his great style and staying the legend he was/is.

@Justin Taveras No. He is one of the rare skaters who do not. Most Eteri girls, Shoma Uno, Vincent Zhou, Morisi K. are those I can name straight away. Nathan's Axel is also bad, always gets more credit than deserved (but can't say anything bad about the rest really, he is probably the most consistent jumper among all, incl Yuzuru who I like the most)

Even though patrick doesn't win... but he still be remembered as one of the best in history. And yuzuru... well nothing i can say about this kid. Perfect whole package.. both are legends to me. Now most of men figure skaters just focus on jump and jump and jump. Well.. even though they did win... none of them will be in the level with patrick, or yuzuru. How mesmerizing watching their 2014 era...
