Dressage is a very complicated thing. It takes loads and loads of practice. LOADS. To be able to go out there, be on your horse, not knowing what can happen, and do it gracefully, is REALLY stunning.

Emelie Emeraldlake And yes I admit it dressage CAN be abusive and it can hurt horse, make the horses mouth bleed and the horses head is in the chest. I know that for a fact, I have seen some horses in GP level that look like pure trash and they don’t enjoy it. They swish their tails and their mouth bleeds, owners pull their reins and all that. I know and I admit it 100%, but if Valegro would be abuses in any way he would not be a world champion and world record breaker.

Equestrian - Dressage - The most elegant event at the Olympics.
@milevenendgame
@milevenendgame 3 жыл бұрын
To all the people who dream that they would someday participate and win equestrian Olympics, dont let others tell you it's a dream "too big" and "it's something you can only dream of" or "it's out of your league, change your dream" or anything like that. I mean what about the other Olympics winners? They didnt give up right? Then why will you? Dreams can be big. They should be big! And I'm telling everyone, to the next generation. Dont EVER let's others thoughts on your dreams make you give up. You WILL accomplish your dream as long as you WORK for it. And remember "If your dreams dont scare you, they are too small."

Wow, thank you. Really needed to see this since it’s my dream to one day compete at the Olympics in dressage along with so many other hefty goals that scare the living daylights out of me because I sometimes have crippling doubt that I’ll never make it. But that’s just negative self talk. I will make it, I will make it happen because it’s one of the few things I can’t get out of my head and I need to hold on to it and let it take me as far as I can go. Your words were really inspiring, I wish you good luck and every good fortune in your dreams🤗

I was told by an experienced dressage trainer that it takes about 13 years to train a horse to do high-level dressage moves; horses live on average into their late 20’s. As amazing as these warmbloods are, still the Spanish Riding School and their Lipizzaners take dressage to a whole ‘nother level. Amazing.

I am no way discrediting the hard work of modern equestrians and horses,but dressage has changed soooo much over the past decades.(For reference,I was born in 1950)The standards have changed so much!Nowadays they seem to put more importance on how far the horse can throw it’s legs haha.Back then the standards for rhythm and harmony were a lot higher.Kinda sad if you think about it.I see a lot of great horses with almost everything that don’t get too far just cause they can’t make 7 feet steps.
@Julia-mi2ij
@Julia-mi2ij 2 жыл бұрын
Sadly I think the issue is how humans always want more. Most horses have a completly disengaged hind and just flail their front because that's the way they've been trained. I would say Carl Hester is quite close to the dressage from years ago, or mainly the dressage before rollkur. Rollkur creates an artifical front and a dragging hind which pleases the uneducated eye, and is also a shortcut for many riders. A big step becomes wonderful when trained correctly and when gives time, just like a small step becomes equally wonderful. Both trained in a harmful way creates a disengaged and tense horse. I could give several examples of horses that have a clearly hollow back and disengaged hind and link studies on how behind the vertical can affect the horse (:

😅😅 I like horses but unfortunately have only been on a horse twice. I don't know a thing about Dressage but I really wish I did so I could better appreciate all the work that I'm sure goes into these performances. I wish I could see it with a riders eye. LOL I don't understand how they get their horses to do all this. I keep watching close to see how they make them dance but I literally don't even see the rider do anything. I'm sure they're doing a lot..I know they are but I can't tell. 😭

My experience: Look up the history of horseshoes, see terms like "farrier" and "dressage," hmm what is that? Okay, I see pictures, but it looks just like fancy pomp horse riding, maybe if I see it in action I'll understand a little better. So I hop on KZbin, click around on this, and see the first time mark for the American. Huh, that looks really regal and elegant. He's dressed to the 9s and putting on airs of posh and polish. Aaaand then Ice Ice Baby starts.
