I wonder why Hyundai puts the charging port on the front with this but on the back for the Ioniq. Then on the front for the electrified GV 70. Something to do with not being a dedicated EV plat?

Have you guys ever considered a head to head road trip comparison of the same vehicle with their different battery pack sizes like this Kona or many other EVs have? I kinda think it would be neat to see how a road trip changes or how much time is saved or lost in practical terms.
@EVPulse2 ай бұрын
I think it's something we'd like to do. The problem, other than the filming logistics, is getting two of the same cars with different battery packs. If the OEM doesn't have them available we'd have to go to Turo, which just adds to the cost of the video. Not impossible, but not as easy as we'd like it to be.

@@EVPulse Oh for sure definitely a good chunk of cost and logistical luck involved in that. I appreciate all the work you all are doing though and continue to love the channel.

Re fast charging - I don’t understand “10-80% in 43 minutes”; is that an official Hyundai figure? Because, if you are getting better than 90kw (consistently), you achieve 10-80% in under 30 min. for either battery.

My 2023 Model 3 RWD started with 273 miles 15 months ago (13k miles ago) and now it has 262 miles of range. That’s adequate for me, but my longest vacation trip is only 175 miles. The Kona beginning at 260 miles will be worrisome in the next few years. If I was considering this car, I’d likely opt for an Inventory long range (320 miles ) Model Y (includes a $7500 federal incentive = $37,490), even if I wasn’t a Musk fan.

I have this car and I have really enjoy it! Sunroof and ventilated seats were a must for me and this was the cheapest car available that had them both. I was able to lease the car and immediately get the $7500 off, i then bought it out through a loan so i could keep the credit and just pay off the car over 6 years. The things I like about this car: - The black between the two screens makes it look like one big screen, very fluid - the rolling bar on the steering to control volume is super handy - 360 Cam is great, especially if you are a nervous parker - the blind spot cameras help a ton - lane keep assist really helps keep you centered on the road - the gear shifter reminds me of a bop-it Things i don't like: - the mirrors are not powered, you have to manually close them as needed - the back seats dont fold completely flat making packing the back a little more challenging - the passenger seat is all manual controls, not powered - there is no 12V plug built into the car like there is in the Ioniq line. - parking assist only works for perpendicular parking, not parallel parking like the Ioniq models - The center console is super small and not ideal for people who rest their elbow on the side. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase

Chargingcurve is much more important then chargingpeak, so 100 or 150kW doesn't tell you how fast you can charge.

Hyundai engineers put the charging port in just about the WORST location with respect to failure modes. Nothing of value or importance should be put near the bumper. If a fender-bender cracks this port, you can no longer charge your vehicle. In that case, you must either drive the vehicle in for repair before the battery is depleted, or you pay for a tow. That is an extra cost on top of the repair. There is no limping along with minor damage. This lack of durability is why I will not buy this car.

Just rip the cover off.
@Kita-Kamakura2 ай бұрын
@@BobbieGWhiz I don't think you comprehend what even a low speed impact will do to the charge port. It'll be destroyed. Plus, insurance will know this and boost your premiums, it's going to cost far more than a non-charge port door on the bumper. Bad design.
@BobbieGWhiz2 ай бұрын
@@Kita-Kamakura Thanks. So by that logic, insurance companies take that into consideration and have notably higher premiums on EV’s with charge ports near their bumpers?
