Question for viewers: What self defense tools should we look at next?
@shitstick-i9h4 жыл бұрын
You could probably do taser guns or brass knuckles. Brass knuckles are exactly force multipliers and you can clinch and grapple without a hassle. It's hard for your opponents to take it away from you. I'm not sure how to carry it though.

It would definitely suck to get hit in the head with that, but pain wise I think the sternum or collar bone would be just ungodly painful. I took a post driver to the top of the head at work and it split my skull but the pain wasn't really that bad. I didnt lose consciousness but it locked me up for a couple seconds. I actually went to Chipotle on the way to the hospital because I didnt realize how bad it actually was. It's an terrible feeling though. You feel sick to your stomach and that ringing sound is the worst. Just thinking about that sound makes my stomach hurt. Anyways you should test the whips out on those coconuts. It would be interesting to see what they can do to a hard target.

Kubotan is the trademark modern version of the palm stick known as a yawara, that was modernized by Tak Kubota, founder of Gosoku Ryu Karate. This palm staff was called a shubo, yawara, tebo, etc. (depending upon the school using or teaching it). The name of something in older times doesn't matter that much nowadays, for example before jujutsu was codified (with all it's variations of the name jujutsu), it was loosely known as yawara.

Based on just this video, i have a new respect for the kubaton. As a person who cracks open coconuts almost weekly (for consumption), a few observations: 1) Just because you don't see a visible crack, doesn't mean you haven't compromised the integrity of the shell. The sound of the coconut actually changes when you've made even the slightest of cracks. but as you weren't holding the coconut in your hands, and also doing the experiment outdoors, it may have been hard to tell how much damage you actually were doing 2) A human would be incapacitated, or at least seriously stunned before you completely crack open a coconut. Even after 20 years, I almost never get a full split on a coconut with my first strike, unless i'm intentionally trying prove a point, and even then, its usually a wild, barbarian swing. I usually use a hammer btw. 3) While scary, you may have had better results with the coconut in your non-dominant hand. Not too static, just enough give... etc. 4) I often also use a railroad spike (mimics the shape of the kubaton) to open the coconuts when i want precision in the size and shape of individual pieces, unfortunately, hammerfist strike never seemed like the best way to go, It just never felt like it produced enough force to be useful in opening the coconut. Even with the railroad spike, i use a downward swinging motion to get the best, fastest coconut cracking results

I think any if those would be nice to have in the console of your car. It would be real effective if someone was reaching in your car grabbing at you. I was thinking specifically if you are at a stop light, boxed in, at a intersection where there may be people on the side of the road with their signs begging? If you have a window down one might try to reach in your car. It would be a real nice weapon to stick them in the hand, arm, neck, face until you have a chance to drive away?

@camorakidd_edc4 жыл бұрын
I honestly think a kubaton can change a fight. This will easily open up your forehead even from a light strike and now imagine the blood running into the eyes. Huge advantage. Also I think how you use it is important.. imagine somebody bigger grabs you and you are kind of overwhelmed.. you take that thing and press into his hand that's grabing you as hard as you can. If he doesn't let go he probably doesn't feel pain at all because he's a cyborg and you are done for.. I would personally say that a kubaton, a flashlight and a pepper spray are top of the list for self defense..

Something about force multipliers and training: Yes, you need to be able to apply force in the first place, otherwise nothin multiplied by 1000 is still nothing, BUT check this out: it's easyer to learn to apply force with a Kubotan. checkmate! srsly though from coach to coach: this little focussed impact tool, helps beginners to focus. They quickly learn how to hammer something down with a kubotan and then it takes only very little to teach them how to, without the weapon (or any other tool, like a flashlight or malfunctioning pepper spray e.g.). Have you considered this aspekt Icy Mike and what do you think about it? cmm

it's a weapon, like any other weapon. If you give a pistol to someone that doesn't know how to use it, could they use that pistol to save their life? Prolly not. Some training would help. A week's worth of training, they probably could be competent to walk around, EDC, and be safe in the home. Add a couple of years of doing that, then a couple of extra weeks of training - now they could teach other people to be safe. Add a couple more years, then more training - really begin to be competent. The palm stick, the kuboton, the Dulo-Dulo lies between empty-hand and knife in FMA. It would help to know some of each, because taking on a big man with a little stick requires some skill - the same way you'd need some BJJ skills to take on a bigger man. No difference. Train with it. You also use it against other targets than a head. Here's something for you to try - have you big puncher put on 16oz boxing gloves, have Mike hold the Dulo. Everytime he tries to punch you, hammer the glove with the stick coming out the pinky-side of you hand. Now, have your big puncher put on 4oz MMA gloves and have him punch you - hammer his fist. He doesn't want that. Now, tell him to take off the gloves and just punch with no protection - hammer his knuckles. You'll shut him down - he'll start hooking you, Step in, straight punches. Honestly - the dulo is under-rated. It's misunderstood.
@michaelwebber82713 жыл бұрын
If you've never used these you have no idea the damage they can do and the advantage they give you when "properly used." Just like a knife it's typically not seen until to late. I've even seen full DEEP rear naked choke be abandoned due to a precise strike with a kubaton that changed the outcome of the fight.
