Excellent exciting race, thanks very much WEC for posting for free. As an avid and excited viewer of endurance racing for almost 60 years (the 1965 Le Mans is the first Sportscar/endurance race I can remember watching), I have to say that this season has been one of the best. But I do have a few observations - why do you keep pretending that the WEC started in 2012 - the WEC moniker was also applied to Group C up to the late 1980s, thus it is completely incorrect to say that Kubica is the third driver to have won both an F1 and a WEC race - I can immediately think of Jackie Ickx and Jochen Mass to add to the list that you mentioned, and I am sure that there are others that my aging memory cannot recall immediately. That is even before you start considering the World Sportscar Championship, which was exactly the same thing, and there are literally dozens of drivers who won in F1 and WSC. Secondly please can Martin Havens go into a long and happy retirement please - I appreciate that commentating is not easy, but he is always wrong about everything, and insists on shouting down his fellow commentators with his wrong-headed views, which is extremely irritating for the listener. Finally it would not be a WEC race with a piece of over aggressive stupidity by Buemi, Rossi colliding with somebody, and Kobayashi cracking under pressure! Roll on Fuji I cannot wait - thanks WEC & keep it up!
@Maenfy3 ай бұрын
Well the first WEC season as "WEC" was in 2012, obviously there were endurance races before that, they don't count as WEC races though. The same applies to F1 having it's first season in 1950 even though GP races started way before that.
@brakecompo20053 ай бұрын
I am afraid that you are not quite correct - the World Endurance title was also used in the Group C era, as I said, indeed I have just looked it up - the championship title used was World Endurance Championship between 1982 and 1985 (slightly less time than I had thought), exactly the same title as now. So any race winners in this period were also WEC winners, so I am afraid that my comment still stands.
@OsellaSquadraCorse3 ай бұрын
@@brakecompo2005 Agree 100%, the kind of Sky F1 / ESPN nonsense 'records' are just completely unnecessary nonsense. This WEC is the same as the WEC/WSC/Championship of Makes, there was just a break in the middle - when it comes to championships, Ickx, Rodriguez, Bell, Mass, Baldi, et al are alway referenced in the same vein as Lotterer, Buemi, Hartley and so on - they all won the same championship, regardless of the name. Haven and Goodwin both surprised me with missing the Alpine 1990s GT cars vs Porsche part, but overall this race commentary startted out really, really poorly and just about improved; though constantly missing and forgetting drive-throughs when they are on the screen and 25 seconds is clearly NOT the last pit-stop time was just really bad. Still better then RLM though, as no mid-race advert breaks to promote Michelin/Weathertech/IMSA/the ACO!
@Maenfy3 ай бұрын
@@brakecompo2005 This WEC was officially founded in 2012, any race winners before that can't count for obvious reasons. Winning in a championship that doesn't exist yet is simply impossible despite it sharing the same name. The 100% count as winners in the WSC, I doubt any of those legends have a problem with that.

Why would the fastest driver go first? Every advantage that driver would gain could be erased by a Safety Car. Usually the fastest driver goes last since that is the most crucial time of the race.
@andreasmou3 ай бұрын
@@Maenfy I don't think it matters who goes first in endurance racing. It can go the way you described, or the car falls so far behind due to incidences that the best driver can do nothing other than finishing the race. Car 83 had Kubica go first and it payed off.

@@andreasmou Well yes but the fastest driver can also have incidents. That's something the team can't plan so there is no point in taking that into consideration. #83 had crazy pace and there is no weak link in that car I'd say, their order is not that important.
