The problem is always with the consistency. Everyones talking about Trent getting a second yellow, which he should have gotten a yellow yes, but no one mentions the fact that if Gordons push on Trent was actually given as a foul, he wouldn't have had to throw the ball away and not gotten the first yellow to begin with. Also, it seemed the yellow for throwing the ball away only applied to Trent because plenty of times Newcastle players kicked the ball away throughout that game and got nothing. Heck,2 Newcastle players amassed 4 fouls each and never got a single yellow. The refereeing in the league is a joke.

He didn’t get a second yellow cause he shouldn’t have got a yellow for the first as it was a foul against Trent that wasn’t called. So basically the ref made 2 wrong calls and he didn’t call the second cause he realised the first one was a mistake. Both were the incorrect call but he shouldn’t have had a yellow in the first place

If Gordon had have been booked for the push, and a free kick given, Trent would never be booked for the throw. Gordons fowl supersedes Trent. Game should have been stopped. Ref will have realised that and chose not to book him for the second challenge. Either way, the worst of the 3 incidents was the push.

I think the game at that point just suits Darwin Nunez better. Playing as a centre forward/running channel on the counter, instead of pressing as a false nine. It has a massive deja vu of the UCL game Ajax v Benfica, where Nunez also scored the last gasp header to knock out Ajax. Really hope this is the turning point for Darwin Nunez.

They are talking about if Trent should have gotten a red, but if the Ref did his job at first Trent wouldn't have gotten that first yellow card because he was clearly fouled by Gordon and I think the Ref knew he made a mistake and thats why he didn't give Trent a 2nd yellow to him. Trent's first yellow was so soft and barely threw the ball at him and only did it because he was fouled by Gordon and was frustrated.

This show is a joke, no one mentioning Klopp’s masterclass & Eddie’s horror show, Klopp absolutely took him to school tactically & personally i knew once they went 1-0 half time , Newcastle were in for a horror show in the second half considering LFC fire power from the bench all they needed to do was keep everything tight and compact and hit them with pace on the break and thats what they did bringing Eliott was actually a bold move from Klopp yet still very effective he galvanised the right side of midfield and helped Liverpool control the ball more , Jota did brilliantly keeping the ball up winning fouls allowing his defenders to breath Gomez was rock solid & Nunez was just the MVP came in did what he usually does get into great positions this time around he had 100% success rate but from Newcastle perspective the changes eddie made were atrocious he played into Liverpool’s hand this shows his lack of experience at the top level tbf

The problem is the PGMOL literally changed the rules for this season so that a foul denying a goal scoring opportunity is a yellow if outside the box and defender made attempt at playing the ball. Therefore by the rules it should have been yellow

TAA was fouled and didn’t get the call and thats why he threw the ball away. It wasn’t time wasting. He was frustrated for not getting the call. I think the ref must have been told that he got that non-call wrong and so not giving TAA the 2nd yellow was to offset the missed call earlier, which, if had been called then the ball would not have been thrown away.

On the Trent card, how come you don't mention it was a push/a foul by Gordon on Trent before the ball throwing happens? Plus only God knows what would've been if Trent was sent off then. I mean would Newcastle prefer Trent Red card over Van Dijk? IMO, Newcastle should not even mention the Trent card. It was a shocking performance to lose that game. Liverpool on the other hand is carrying a big liability with Trent as RB. I really think they need to invest in that position if they want to challenge for a title.

Firstly Trents yellow card incident should have been given as a foul on Trent as Gordon barged into the back of him sending him flying towards the dugout and the second incident, Trent did not "clip his heels", it was the arm across the player that might have been given as a foul. Also, no mention of Joelinton, who was crashing into players all over the pitch and not even a talking to by the ref!

Regarding VVD he paid for TAA's sins ... they were always going to make up for not sending Trent off but using the strictest interpretation possible for VVD. TAA was lucky but it was fair to give him some leeway given the Newcastle player pushes him over the sideline and then what gets the advantage by a quick throw-in. VVD tries to make an effort to play the ball, it's a football challenge .. so I think red while you can make a case for it, was a bit harsh. As long as every club is ruled the same way ...

VVD red was pretty harsh imo, are we not allowed to tackle anymore, he did clearly get the ball. Is Isak ok? Is the leg being amputated or...I know it was really the slightest of contact but clearly the guy was at deaths door as he lay on the turf for 10 minutes. Something does need to be said about players feigning injuries, or playing up to minimal contact, we saw this with the Mac10 red, Ryan Christie did about 25 rolls across the pitch and lay in a heap, the WHO were sending in helicopters, someone was performing CPR on him while his sock was getting defibrillated! Szobo got criticized for diving for the penalty last week, or making the most of the contact, and rightly so, but when are we going to start shaming these players feigning injury? It's cheating, it really is, there was nothing wrong with Isak, nothing at all, same with Christie last week.

Well, the first yellow against TAA was silly because he gets fouled and is frustrated that the ref doesn't call it. This is another example where refs' horrendous decisions can't be challenged, I think it's a lousy rule

The rule is a clear goal scoring opportunity, if he hasnt got control of the ball or isnt in the process of lifting his leg to shoot its not a clear goal scoring opportunity. They are all right referring to clear and obvious in the rules when it suits, but to be a red that has to have been deemed a clear goalscoring chance ?

I was only able to watch the highlights so I was expecting a lot more from the Trent second yellow. I was also expecting a lot more for the first yellow. People keep saying that the referees have made it clear that they will punish throwing the ball away, time wasting and dissent but (a) I don’t think you can reasonably describe what Trent did as any of those and (b) the referee didn’t punish kicking the ball away when Newcastle players did it - which they did repeatedly in the first half. Joelinton should have had at least three yellows in the first half. And to Newcastle fans who say Liverpool should have been down to 9, that’s even more absurd. If Trent goes, van Dijk doesn’t make that tackle. It’s ridiculous to assume that the game unfolds exactly as it did just with Trent off - it’s a different game if that’s given.
