I always have a problem with people saying this though. Like if Messi is the best player, you play around him obviously. I don't see anything wrong with that. To be fair, 2010, 2014, 2018, Argentina relied on him in an unnecessary way. This team basically did the hard and dirty work, and that allowed Messi to be more free. At 35, Messi is older, and the team didn't rely on him too much. Don't get me wrong, they relied on him, but they did not really rely on him in terms of needing him to do everything. Messi basically did everything because that's how he plays, but they all, all held their own.

The games were rigged in argentina favor and it was more than obvious unless you are a messi fan and think the fake goat needed help from every ref in every game to win. I have never seen a football tournament where the team is given a penalty in every game and the player blatantly handles a ball and the ref looks the other way!!! RIGGED! If i were the players on holland , croatia, and france, I would not play in another worldcup and tell them to shove it; after all they achieve nothing from being in the world cup because the world cup was once a way to showcase your talent to potential clubs but those days are long gone and risking injury for a rigged tournament is not worth it

I can’t say I’m a big fan of Di Maria, but he has ‘completed football’ as well. He has now won the World Cup and Copa America with Argentina, plus an Olympic gold medal in 2008 (scoring in all 3 winning finals to top things off), the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2014 (producing a wonderful assist for Bale’s goal in the final and winning the man of the match award), league titles in Portugal, Spain and France, and domestic cups in Spain and France (scoring in the 2014 Copa del Rey final). I told my son 'Argentina will win if the match ends up in penalty shoot out. Why? Because Hugo Loris is the worst penalty saver in the world while Emile Martinez is sure of saving at least 2 pen.. It lived up to expectations, dramas, full of suspect, rollercoaster of emotions. The match has all the sauce and pepper, Argentina was dominant in 70% of the time, Messi and Di Maria were exceptional but Mbabpe ultimately achieved his Golden boot dream thanks to Kingsley Coman and Kamavinga who added the much needed energy to wake up the sleeping French team. At the end Mbabpe got the Golden boot, Messi got the Golden cup. What a World Cup final we just watched in our lifetime

What a final. As someone who has been a Messi fan since he broke through at Barca, to see him win the world cup in possibly last game ever is just poetic. For me, he proved he was the best ever a long time ago. The needing to win a world cup argument has always been flawed; given a team wins a trophy, not one player. As great as he is, he's relying on ten others to do their jobs. That point was also perfectly demonstrated in this game; by the fact Mbappe scored three and still ended up on the losing team. Anyway, it's so unreal to see Messi win it. Not only is he so incredible as an individual but has always been such a team player. Even at 35 remains a class apart from the rest as an overall attacker. Mbappe has what it takes to become one of the best ever; yet as great as he is in terms of his speed, directness and finishing, Messi offers so much more with his passing and ability to dictate the play. To think he's still competing on the biggest stage with the best of this new generation just underlines further why he's the greatest of all time.
