So tariffs are OK if they are put on the USA but when we want to put them on others it is not? Absurd.
@jorgemolina59683 ай бұрын
Exactly but most Americans here in the states believe that doing so would make things more expensive. Which it will, but as more American production begins prices will go down and then foreign made products will be used less while American made products will be the popular choice. Overall it helps Americans because those companies who want to tap into the American market will either have to pay or pay to build factories here which in turn creates more jobs.
@robertlang36243 ай бұрын
No, because tariffs are a tax on goods that the consumer pays, not the country or company that’s producing. The only effect it has is to put up the price in the US market which may mean you’re reluctant to buy it, but let’s say you’ve bought a foreign car a tariff will mean any parts you might need will be more expensive, and trying to sell the car on will be more difficult as very few people will want to buy it. OK so you say I’ll buy American made products, but even some of the parts for those products are imported, so it will put those prices up too. American companies source products and parts from other parts of the world because it’s cheaper, and the cost savings get passed on to you the consumer. The world is now interdependent on other countries to produce products. If he puts on tariffs to stop manufacturing elsewhere, then the people in Mexico will come into the US in even greater numbers if there is nowhere for them to work, now there’s a thought.
@christofferaspegren99243 ай бұрын

Most smart businessmen and women know this and will choose to build in the USA because they don't want to lose us as customers. It's very simple. Also when more companies build here, prices will actually drop plus there will be more jobs. Tarrifs protect americans and American jobs.

But President Bill Clinton got the job growth in the United States done. How? President Bill Clinton got congress to raise taxes on the wealthy. The Republicans said it would destroy the economy, but it didn't. What happened was the value of the dollar went down around the world because the Federal Reserve was able to lower interest rates without the fear of inflation. The budget deficit went down and the trade deficits went down because the dollar was weaker and companies could compete again. Then in the years 1999/2000 the US had a balanced budget. Letting the trump tax cuts expire is a good thing for the US economy, interest rates can go back down and the manufacturing jobs can come back to the United States. 3 Republican Presidents, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush and trump had a net gain of 1 million jobs in the US economy. 3 Democrat Presidents, Bill Clinton, Barrack Obama and Joe Biden had a net gain of 50 million jobs in the US economy.

Tariffs are a way of controlling certain goods being imported, but he’s talking about tariffs on American companies that manufacture outside the US in order to force them to stay in the US. Lots of US companies have products made outside the US, this keeps them competitive but also means they can offer a cheaper version therefore expanding their customer base, if Trump puts on a tariff those products will go up in price and could put some companies out of business. But when every economist in America is saying he’s wrong and he’ll increase inflation, but of course Trump is an expert no one knows as much as he does about anything.

A lot of manufacturing was moved to 3rd world countries decades ago (cheaper labour) which allowed more Americans to buy things which ultimately meant more profits for US companies. Western consumers got used to the lower prices. In order to get these back to the US where wages are higher, prices will increase dramatically and less people will be able to afford things. And profits will drop and stocks will fall. These companies should never have been allowed to start factories in 3rd world countries.

@@ebok33643 Stranger things have happened! Imo, President Trump, with years of business experience around the world, would be the best choice as President of the USA! He is about protecting the Constitution, it’s flag, freedoms, and the people…in essence, making America greater, far safer by closing the border to illegal entrants (whom many are thugs, terrorists, and criminals representing at least 180 countries), and less taxed …and so much more! By contrast, VP Kamala Harris is following a globalist marxist agenda of dismantling countries with Constitutions, thus the open border policy (which Hillary Clinton talked about during debates with Donald Trump in 2016). Americans, like Trump, love their country! Kamala and her supporters, including mainstream news propagandists can label sane common sense Americans in derogatory terms such as misogynists, racists, nazis, etc but, the majority who will vote are hardworking common sense people, regardless of race. They are supporting Trump who has a 4 year record of 1.9% inflation, lower fuel and energy costs, closed border to illegals (less crime), lower housing and food costs, more prosperity, and much more! Trump will make way for better food quality, less health costs as drug prices go down and the healthcare system gets reformed,…in general, making America greater in every sphere of life! It’s a choice of life if you vote for Trump, or death if you support Harris! Just look at the mess they’ve created in their policies under the current Biden administration! Goodnight and thank you for responding!

I really don't get why folks are bashing the interviewer? Y'all forget he is part of the Economic Club of Chicago. The members of the club are quite familiar with the trends in global finance, trade & tech. The questions are from an informed perspective. This was way better than the MSM Trump faces regularly. In addition, the interviewer was trying to hold Trump to focus. He is pretty skillful in dodging questions or deflecting them on to other issues. Finally, what is wrong with a British-American conducting this interview? Is he not part of the club? Is it not the club's business to choose who they deem fit to conduct the interview? Kuddos to Trump though. At least, I had a glimpse of his economic and trade policies from this session.

It's pretty obvious who has the brains to lead and negotiate for America. Anyone who doesn't have hate in their heart for Trump can see Harris could never ever interview and give such details about how to negotiate. Trump knows The secret to making Tariffs work is knowing what your competition needs and wants. If they can't go without them they will pay. Trump knows this. He's been playing the game all his life. One of the best negotiator we've seen. Even the main stream media knew it when they wanted his show "The Apprentice" to air year after year. He told them after the last year, no more of "The Apprentice" and that did piss them off. Which is when the tide changed from loving Trump to hating Trump. Then all the fools who are brain dead and go home to watch TV to wind down got brain washed and believe whatever they watched. You know I'm right unless you're a person who does more with there free time than watch TV.
