Great video with your thoughts on FSD! And the clip at the end was priceless. I know the feeling when FSD does something I wasn't quite expecting. Whether that's accelerating more quickly, following too close, or taking a curve faster than I normally would. It's taken me a little while to get used to the performance/handling characteristics of the Model Y and also the situations where FSD works well and doesn't work so well. I've gained more trust in FSD, but probably in about 75% of the time I'm using it. Like you experienced, it slows down nicely, will still accelerate a bit quicker than I would - but not every time, it sometimes follows too closely (this one I really don't like), and will sometimes make turns from the wrong lane (usually the emergency lane.) Now that I've become aware of the cases where FSD is struggling, I do take over before getting out of my comfort zone. I'm hoping future versions of FSD will improve on these things. That said, I just started my FSD subscription a few days ago after the trial ended. On the highway, FSD works wonderfully well, but I suspect basic Autopilot will do the same without needing FSD. In town is where most of my concerns are with FSD. It does a great job of taking me from the driveway to our local restaurants, grocery store, and relatives houses just fine. My biggest issue is that at 66 years old, I keep both hands on the wheel and still try to steer even when FSD is active. Sometimes that takes me out of FSD just as it's starting to steer the way I would have. LOL! Again, I hope improvements with FSD tamp down on some of the assertive steering, acceleration, and following distance when in Chill FSD and Chill Acceleration. I also wish I could tap down once to go into basic Autopilot or tap down twice to engage FSD. There are times where I just want adaptive cruise control without FSD - like when sightseeing or just taking a fun drive with no destination in mind. :) I was taught to be a defensive driver and FSD is not quite there for me (and is sometimes too conservative when pulling out in traffic, but mostly a touch too assertive for the area I live in.) Enjoy that great Model Y, Darryl. I'm eager to see the videos of your Colorado road trip and how well Autopilot/FSD works on a long drive. As always, thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the Bolt and Model Y!

@@robertlmoon thank you for the comment. I appreciated everything you said. I feel exactly the same way. I think Interstate driving will help immensely with the stress of driving. I will most likely not use it much driving up the mountains, maybe I’ll try, just don’t want motion sickness, lol. Stay safe my friend, again much appreciated.

In my 28 years of automotive experience, the last 8 years have been with Volvo and Mazda. Both offer adaptive cruise control and Volvo has a very limited "pilot assist" system. I've used both in the Volvo and ACC in the Mazda. It's gotten to the point where I basically refuse to use them due to scary moments. My new 2023 Bolt EV 2LT has the adaptive cruise as well. Now I'm not saying these are the same as Tesla's FSD, but they all have similar quirks. Example, I've experienced this in my Chevy as well as the Volvo's and Mazda's where they will react to something not there and slam on the brakes. In my Bolt a few weeks ago while on the 405 freeway heading north, my ACC was set at 64 MPH and all traffic was flowing at that and faster when suddenly the car felt like it slammed on the brakes. I immediately over-road it and hit the accelerator so that I didn't get hit from the rear. On the Volvo's with pilot assist it will cause me to feel sick due to the bobbing back and forth between the lines. Other times the Volvo lane keeping aid will go nuts and cause the steering wheel to "fight me" even though I'm perfectly in my lane. This is due to picking up tar strips on the road surface. I say all this because there's zero way on erth that I'm allowing these vehicles to take over for me. Hearing you speak about the height difference between you and your wife and the easy entry mode made me thinik of my aunt and uncle years ago when the purchased a late 70's Cadillac with memory seats and loved it due to their difference in size.

@@danielberning1240 I agree 100% with everything you said. We just arrived in Estes Park Colorado and have not had a chance to make my 1000 mile travel video. I know it will upset the FSD dreamers but it’s got lots of problems. If someone is not that good of a driver, then FSD might be great however I stopped counting at 15, the number of the severe issues we had. I stopped using it by the time we got to Kearney Nebraska. I did use autopilot which I feel is much better…. Stay tuned my friend.

Phantom braking incidents have supposedly improved a bunch. Will see if you agree after this trip. Re FSD - you’re the one in control. If you’re not comfortable with the approach to that 35 mph curve - intervene. Tesla should review and update. Good luck on your trip west!

Bear in mind also. Your car is GLUED to the ground by weight alone. Also your car is not calibrating, its actually operating from past experience, on the very roads you are on. You're car sees the road just like your eyes in real time, backed up by date from previous drivers vehicles.

This clip kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6PFoZ2loqufm6csi=QIMT73yP7Ojji3Nl documented my 2024 MYP, operating under FSD (Supervised) v12.3.6, safely negotiated a curve with a speed advisory sign of 25 MPH. Please note on the display: MAX (i.e. speed) = Auto; driving at the speed it determines to be most natural, which was at 43 MPH throughout the curve -- 72% higher than the advised speed. This clip kzbin.infoUgkxeyA0-ASiJeF2qMKcbkMkDkLm4iq2QIwh?si=J1grnr1JXbaUVlKB from your "Full self driving (FSD)" video documented your 2024 MYLR AWD, operating under FSD (most likely v12.3.6) was only at speed of 47 MPH throughout the curve with a speed advisory sign of 35 MPH -- just 34% higher than the advised speed. FSD is liken to an old-fashioned standalone GPS navigation device on steroids! It's far more superior to the capabilities of Tesla's basic Autopilot. I can understand you might not have the financial means to either pay $8K or $99/month to incorporate FSD in your 2024 MYLR AWD, but please try not to give viewers of your channel the wrong impressions about FSD, based on your own limitations!

@@TuneupMagic I understand your statement however I am only informing viewers of my opinion. I would never say anyone should or should not do anything, it’s my personal opinion. I will never feel like taking a 35mph, 90 degree curve at 47mph. It is definitely fine for some people, not me. What was even worse, it did not slow until the beginning of the curve, which I can attest is incorrect driving.

@@EV-Darryl Hey you just pointed out that FSD is in fact far more superior to an incompetent human driver's ability in handling a sharp curve. FSD provides precise road handling, that liken to a race car driver would slow down just before sharp turns on a race track. Btw the act of informing viewers of your opinion can certainly influence the thinking of prospective Tesla vehicle buyers looking for more information about FSD.

@@TuneupMagic I can tell by your comments that you are one of those who think it's superior and thus one of those driving their Tesla's way too fast. Years back I was a police officer in Illinios and I can tell you the signs showing a suggested speed are there for a reason. So if I'm out on these roads and I'm slowing down for curves as such while some rude driver in a Tesla comes up behind me way too fast and becomes impatient with my safe driving style, I could care less. Slow down. Your Tesla with FSD is not safer when it's doing this type of thing and it's only made worse when drivers like you allow it to happen. You seem to be sclolding or belittling Darryl for his safer driving style. Shame on you.

@@danielberning1240 The Driver Comfort Speed Method is the oldest empirical method used for determining advisory speeds. It was defined in the 1930s as that "which causes an occupant of the vehicle to feel an outward pitch" in accordance with dot.gov. Accordingly, I can understand people with inferior road-holding vehicles (e.g. Darryl's 2024 MYLR AWD) would need to stay below the advisory speed, especially in bad weather conditions.
