@Fatman3054 ай бұрын
@@alanhall6909I'd bet that eventually pedestrians will have to run some app (semianonymously) on a mandatory mobile device that communicates with the self-driving cars around to avoid accidents, fairly share the road (i.e. pedestrian will legally have to wait their turn even in middle of the road - on-the-fly crosswalk for the few people who need it exactly there), increase public safety etc. Big brother? @@essel23fly _Aren't you always worrying about it trying to kill you at any moment though?_ Not in the least. The combination of FSD (Supervised) being aware of everything that's going on 360° around the Tesla and taking action instantly to avoid dangerous situations, plus a human driver (me) ready to step in when it falters, has proven to be far, far safer than either FSD or a human driver by themselves. All I worry about, whether or not FSD is engaged, is other drivers drying to kill me; and FSD addresses that concern very effectively.

So thanks for the video, and the ride along, that was simply awesome! So full disclosure, I am currently driving on FSD, V12.3.3, and I cannot wait to get V12.3.5, and as you commented, it’s only gonna get better and better and better. So I am an original adopter of this technology, as it was what attracted me to Tesla in the first place, before I knew much about Elon Musk or Tesla, etc. etc. So when I got my 2018 Tesla Model 3, they did not have FSD available, and the best I could get was enhance cruise control, that Tesla labeled traffic, aware, cruise, control or TACC, and so I believe it was in 2019 or so when they first initially offered FSD beta, and I was able to buy in at 3K, and now looking back, I realize that was a very good deal, and so watching FSD beta go from 3K, to 5K, to 8K, to 12K, and then to 15K, and then seeing it reduced to 12K, and now it’s been cut back to 8K, is indeed mind blowing, and I hope it goes lower, because if it does, that means more people will get the chance to experience it the way you and I do today, because let’s face it, there will always be those who will resist until the day they die, to make this change, because change is hard for some people, and so as much as we would like to be able to have them follow us, we must know that sometimes that old saying that an old dog simply cannot learn new tricks, it’s actually true, but in the case of the human, he/she refuses to learn new tricks, and that is the problem, but they need not become our problem, and they won’t become our problem unless we allow them to. So I don’t know how much you think about this, but I try to limit my thoughts about it, because I know that the only person in the room that I can control is me. So why waste time worrying about things you can’t control, and so I try not to think much about these things, because I know I have no control over that which I do not have control over. So let’s just move on, and allow everyone else who isn’t convinced to be convinced by the evidence and the experience of seeing this technology for themselves, as it’s only seeing, and experiencing this technology for themselves, will convince them, but not only it’s a good idea, but that it actually really works too, as there is a reason why we no longer see dinosaurs roaming the earth unless of course you’re talking about the human dinosaurs that simply refused to change. Cheers 🥂

My 2020 Y with 12.3.4 does well most of the time but where it really struggles is making a left hand turn where a country road turns and you cannot see what's coming from the right due to trees/bushes. It will literally just bolts across the lanes without slowing or using a turn signal. Had a close call twice due to this. The other issue I am having is again on a country road where we are traveling about 50 mph and are coming around a gentle turn to an intersection with a red light. I can clearly see across the farm fields that the light is red and that there are cars stopped at the light yet the car just barrels around the turn and only aggressively brakes at the last moment. More than once I had to intervene so we did not crash into the car stopped at the light in front of me. My car reminds me to shake the steering every minute! How are you using FSD completely handsfree? This is weird! Also it still makes mistakes in some left or right turns! It is impressive how much it has developed. Stops at all red lights and stop signs, slows down for speed bumps, or pedestrians… it’s almost there! 🤞

People think that FSD has to be perfect before it is approved but it doesn't, it only has to show that it is safer than humans, and that's not a tall order, I think it is already there. Just like that joke about the two guys outrunning the bear, we can't outrun a bear says one, the other one says, I only have to outrun you.😄

its not as good in PA where i am but it was basically unusable outside of the highway here on v11. Lots of farm, shoddy suburban and poorly marked roads. I intervene about less than 50% of drives but it is far better than the 100% it was prior. Area specific training will get it there😊

FSD is dangerous. It often makes mistakes when you least expect it. Yet, with a supervisor who understands when it's about to crash, it is arguably safer than a human. I'm sure you have seen it rub curbs, hit vehicles (on video in some circumstances), and act quite unpredictable in some scenarios?
@vermontsownboy69575 ай бұрын
@@club6525 I doubt you actually have relevant recent experience with FSD or you wouldn't be making such a statement. Even as we speak, the bad habits (curb rash, too close to road margin, etc) and bad performance behaviors are being fixed in damn-near real-time.

He is Dan O'Dowd, who has a competing self-driving software company and he cheats to create videos that make Tesla's look dangerous. If you read the comments, his claims are easily refuted and it is frequently pointed out that he is overriding safety features and ignoring other defects that he himself has probably created in an effort to mislead the public. He's a joke. Everyone points and laughs at him.

Tesla shareholder/bull here, have had FSD since prior to V11. Agree with V12 being really great, but in my experience, it is not as good as WMC is stating here. still makes major mistakes, can't get into the proper lane, misses freeway exits, doesn't creep at red light for right turns sometimes, indecisive when presented with 2 lanes to choose from. I believe freeway is still on V11. Hopefully with the new end to end approach and massive increase in compute power we see freeway FSD get to V12 and these issues get resolved quickly. But yeah IMO WMC overestimates FSD ability at this time.

@rayrasalan41974 ай бұрын
We had FSD with our first Tesla Y, I compared it to a 14-year-old driver on its 3rd day on the road. I call in high anxiety driving that I just quit using it. My wife was very patient and stuck with it, and learned all the quirks and anticipated it when it started to when its about to deviate. We just purchased a new X last weekend and it's on its first drive today. It needs 35 miles to calibrate and automatically download version 12. I am looking forward to having the same performance in the coming days.

Soon, the cars will all communicate with each other wirelessly so they won't need to signal intent with light. They will coordinate for most efficient throughput. Chains of trucks will draft each other for reduced air resistance but will open up to allow cars to get through upon request. May eliminate the need for signal lights at intersections. Automated vehicles will automatically make way for emergency vehicles or any vehicle that signals it is on an emergency mission. Have to admit that I would not like high-status people like politicians to be able to route through faster as everyone else makes way for them.

Mine required you to put some force on the steering wheel it seems like about once a minute, when using FSD.

I see people saying if I have to babysit it then it's not worthwhile at all. I would counter to say that 90% of the value I get from fsd is that when visiting dense downtowns or new cities, it ALWAYS picks the right lanes and knows where to go. It's such an enormous load off to not be trying to decipher the gps and figure out what lane is a one way or not or whatever. Radically changed how I view driving
