Are shed kits any good? This was a question I wondered for years so I decided to finally bite the bullet and build one from Home Depot. This kit will save you a ton of time but I also made several modifications along the way that I think led to a better shed. Let me know what you think and if you are going to build from scratch or use a shed kit like this one.

Very impressive how quickly you assembled this! I'm the type of guy to buy the kit, unload it, dig a few holes then watch KZbin for hours till bed time and the shed kit would be in the yard for a few months.

I built a shed 27 or 28 years ago using a shed kit for Home Depot. You had to build your own floor and everything went together fine except one of the back panels which wasn’t cut correctly. I had to modify it. That shed is still standing. I built new doors for it last year. Not a bad kit. My suggestion for a shed is imagine what your storage needs will be in 15-20 years and build that if you can afford it.

Wow $2,000 not including all of the extra costs and you have to build yourself. I hired a guy locally to build a shed for me just like this with foundation and standard 16" on center studs for $2,500. Definitely worth it!

I might have considered a concrete slab rather than blocks. One thing the Midwest is notable for are tornadoes. And they seem to be more powerful. They even brought down The Amazon. But would it hold up to a stiff wind ? That's the thing I would constantly be on edge about. I am very paranoid about my stuff. Not that it's valuable or worth anything, but it's just that it is my stuff. Anyway. Great video. You make it look so easy and effortless. I realize it's mostly through editing magic, but I bet if I tried, I'd end up with a pile of rubbish and the neighbors thinking I have Tourette's and should be institutionalized.

I’m a subcontractor installer for these kits. Yes, the front and back walls are flimsy until secured to the side walls. Your kit comes with eave trim to cover the 2x4 soffit. (Supposed to) To your viewers, secure the rafters before your lofts. Reaching over shelving to toenail rafters is annoying. All said, nice build.

Is there not some trim piece that goes over the three boards above the windows? If not, I'm surprised there's not some primed or painted sections in the kit for that, given that everything else that's exposed is primed (or painted, not sure what the finish is).

I think it would be worth it to buy one of these kits just for the pre-cut pieces, then do additional framing for more support. The ones my wife and I have been looking into are composite materials because we have bugs here that love to eat wood. The termites and carpenter bees alone makes composite worth the extra money. However, adding additional framing would cost significantly more per board.
@johndoe6032
@johndoe6032 2 ай бұрын
They overcharge for the materials, and oftentimes you get really bad stuff; massively bowed 2x4's, beat up sheet panels, etc. You'll end up running back and forth to the store and fighting them to make it right. Just hire someone to build one for you. It really doesn't cost much more if you shop around because builders can get the materials a lot cheaper and it's saves you a lot of time and headache. In my case it cost almost the exact same to have someone build mine as it would have been to build myself with one of these kits, and they used better materials and building standards, 2x6 boards for the floor, 16" on center framing, etc.

Scott, this was a fun video to watch. One thing to check when building a shed is what the building code requirements are for your area. My county stipulates that all materials of a shed have to match your house-- siding, roofing, trim, colors, style, and even roof pitch. Well, from what I can tell in my area, those codes are routinely ignored. :-) So you may be okay regardless.

@@KitchenFamilyFarm Funny, but a decade before I found the requirements in the building code for my county, I had built my shed. I wanted to build it so that it matched my house, mostly for aethetics. So I used the same siding, roofing matierials and colors as my house. I even matched the shed's roof pitch with my house's.

I build these sheds for the manufacturer. I've built that exact shed many times. You can pay for installation, and they send a guy like me out to build it. It's kind of fun to see you put all that extra time and money into the cheapest sheds they sell. It would have been cheaper to just start off with a shed that's not a piece of crap to begin with. Way overkill gluong the floor down. It's not a large span and very low arqa. The floor won't be moving mich and the screws woild.l have been more than enough. Also, that plywood will start to throw splinters pretty quickly and osb woild.ahve been a much better choice with no flooring over top. All n all I think you wasted a ton of noney on upgrading a storage shed.

Whenever you buy ANYTHING manufactured, most of what it cost goes towards the labor it takes to assemble it. UNFORTUNATELY, material prices have gone up so much these days that sometimes you cant even DIY to save a few $$. These manufacturer are buying their materials in wholesale lots for way way way way less than we have to pay at the retail suppliers. So sometimes you might as well buy the mfg'd one and be better off. A lot of times it will be better built. ! ,
