When I was in Junior High School they taught us about stocks, credit cards, interest rates, and how to balance a checkbook. I’m 62 now. It’s sad they don’t teach this in school anymore.

When I (75) was in school in the 1950s and 196O talking about money was taboo so the schools never brought it up except in a few math word problems; parents, at least mine, never mentioned anything about money. For whatever reason, I have been very good at handling money in spite of that; at the same time, I'm like Clark and I could not even pass geometry. I mentioned in a college remedial math class that I could solve any math problem as long as it was about money. The final test was about money and I passed the course. I often wonder if money talk is still taboo for some people and that's why it's not taught so much.

Thanks, Clark, for being the meanie parent; your kids are lucky. Recently, an expensive private school ("prep" school) surveyed their alumni with questions as to how their school experience served them in real adult life. Almost half noted a failure in two categories: financial literacy and interpersonal relations. The latter had to do with lack of exposure to the full diversity of the real population, warts and all. The former had to do with money being a non-issue in their growing up years; whatever they wanted they got from their rich parents. Hopefully the school will address these; it is the purpose of their annual survey. But school can't stand in for good parenting; it's not designed to do that and maybe shouldn't be. One valuable thing about public school is that you learn to deal with all kinds of personalities from all levels of society so that you are prepared for that. If only we could pair that with the high quality of private school education, society would be a little better off.

Great insight! Hopefully the school will address the deficiencies and more schools will join the bandwagon. 💚

So many people need to hear your rant on checks at 15:08. My company sees SO many issues with (primarily elderly) customers who still insist on being stuck in 1990 and making check payments. It’s hard not to be insulting when you try to explain that no, sending a piece of paper in the mail containing your routing and account number is NOT more secure than putting your info into our billing system.

Yes, I’m one who filed to pay back benefits after 10 months since I went back to work. I even delivered the check to the local SSA office so it wouldn’t go through the mail, but it still hasn’t been cashed in 15 days. I think they put it in the mail themselves.

Good for you! Hopefully it doesn't take them 2 months to cash it. Make sure you hold on to any confirmation you received from the SSA office as proof that you paid it before the 12-month deadline. 👏👏👏

It take 2-6 months for the check to clear AND for the check amount/ correction to appear on your Social Security statement. They are short-staffed and backlogged. Just periodically check with them, so that you stay on their radar.

Buy Cancel for Any Reason Travel Insurance from InsureMyTrip.com. You have to buy it within days of booking your trip and can cancel within 24-48 hrs before the trip (read your specific policy). This won't get you a full refund, but it will give you 50-75% of your funds back. Here's more information: clark.com/travel/cancel-for-any-reason-coverage/ Hope this helps! 💚

Paying credit card bills online, what happens when the credit card company gets hacked? Then the criminals have all our bank account info right? The day is coming when I get a letter in the mail that my credit card company has gotten hacked and they have all my personal information,, we are sorry but we are not responsible here have 12 months of a monitoring service for free. When are we going to be able to sue these companies that don’t secure our personal info?

Yes, there is still a risk, but it's safer than your check getting stolen out of the mail - the criminals will still have all of your bank info from the check. 💚

@g.t.richardson63115 ай бұрын
My kids worked starting at 14 at private swim club. Hours limited, stuff like desk attendant, snack bar cashier, empty trash, pick up the locker room. There is some exemption to minimum wage for private clubs as well They pay were paid six dollars an hour. But that was still a lot more than any other 14-year-olds were making. A couple of our local independent ice cream stores hire kids at 14 to serve cones. I started working at 15 at a grocery store, but could only do bagging and carts. But that was in the mid 1970s
