Always enjoy your work. Thank you. By the way, in case you have not yet heard, it appears that the Lifetime Security update package will be about $239.00 or for an additional 3 years Package for $ 169.00 or for an additional yearly cost of $79.00. Hope this helps.

Thanks! It helps keep me going knowing others enjoy the content- even the content with less views. I have heard! They sent me an email when they released the pricing. That’s reasonable pricing because it’s between $4.69 and $6.58/mo and if you keep it for longer (like 6+ years it can be less than $4.69/mo). Stay tuned because I’m going to be doing an updated full network build using Grandstream with OPNsense and then I’m going to mimic the configuration for a full stack Grandstream build to show the differences. Grandstream is going to be sending me some new hardware they are releasing. I’m excited about it because I love the management features and the price compared to other vendors.

I just picked up a Grandstream GWN7660E. I have been following your OPNsense guide for the last couple of weeks and have been learning a ton! You are an absolute legend sir! I had a used UAC-HD that I picked up for this project and its giving me some weird non-consistent behavior. Went with a Grandstream as another try after this watching this video. Do I need to be concerned with how I mount this WAP? I plan to let it lay flat on a shelf as it is.

Thanks! Glad the guides are helping you learn a lot of things! Took me years of playing around. Haha. My long term plan is to replace my UniFi APs with Grandstream since I have enjoyed using them in my demonstrations. I’m getting frustrated with UniFi hardware when I just want to log into a device but having issues adopting the device. I made the mistake of trying to manage a small site deployment I set up on my UniFi account but then later decided I wanted to create a separate UI account to manage the devices. I made a backup of the controller and later had to restore it. Still haven’t sorted that mess out yet so I can’t manage the switch or AP until I get it resolved! I don’t want to factory reset it and start over because it is currently deployed! With Grandstream I can always log into the device locally even if it’s being managed by the software controller or cloud account. I love that I never have to worry about being locked out of the device! Anyway, these style of APs are ideally ceiling or wall mounted (due to how the radio waves are emitted- see the UniFi radiation patterns for an example of what I mean). The signal behind the AP is generally not quite as strong as in front of it. But it does emit omnidirectional so most likely it will be ok in a home environment. Just keep in mind you may need to reposition it if you find it’s not working out well in that spot.

By the way, I’m going to be doing more set up with that hardware (a new, update OPNsense network build) but I also want to show using the full stack to mimic my OPNsense network build. Can’t quite do all of the things the OPNsense plugins do but a lot of the core infrastructure can be done on the GCC6010. It will be cool to have it all managed from the same box without needing a separate software, hardware, or cloud controller (even though can you the software and/or cloud controller).

@@homenetworkguy Thanks for the reply! I also saw a huge boon in being able to locally manage the device rather than being bound by a controller software. That situation does sound like a mess haha. Something to note as well, Ubiquiti looks to be much less concerned with privacy than they have in past, modifying quite a bit of their privacy policy, if that is something you value. I wanted to say as well I took quite a bit from your 'securing OPNsense' guide as well. Particularity the reverse proxy to an internal DMZ, I am actually deploying this solution in my companys network, I never thought of an approach like that until I stumbled upon your work. Please continue with the awesome work you do in this area, it is very appreciated!

@HomeNetworkGuy I recently bought a GW7440E and set up 4 VLAN on it but have no devices connecting to it yet except for my laptop which is connecting wirelessly to the "management" VLAN to set up the rest of the network. One thing I've noticed is that the signal strength fluctuates rather dramatically, going from

Hmm I haven’t anything like that and I’m typically testing with the AP sitting flat on a desk. These sorts of APs are ideally mounted on the ceiling and perhaps the wall. Shouldn’t matter too much when you’re sitting relatively close to the AP. Perhaps there is inference if you have an existing WiFi network while you’re setting up the new AP?

@@homenetworkguy That's most likely the culprit. I have a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 on the other side of the wall from the GW7440E that has currently been my wifi router for ages.

can you make a review about how this device detect virus from internet? for example downloading several malware samples from internet to know how effective is the antivirus of this device. Best regards

That would be a good idea to test out the firewall/malware protections of that product.
