In this review, you'll learn how to play Full Throttle!, how a bad game can be made good, and why individual choices can come back to haunt you. **Note: Discarded cards at the end of a round should be placed under the deck in the order of the last player's choice, not set aside for re-shuffling. I unknowingly created a game variant despite three readings of the rules, and while I like the game, I now need to play it correctly. Sorry!

Good video, Eric. As is usual. My question is: What are your thoughts about turning the movement card card face-down once that colour is actioned?
@boardgamegeek

So a player would reveal a card, someone would move the moped, then the player would place the card face down? I think that introduce memory issues that take away from the game. I want to know that the round has, say, two blue, two orange, and one of everything other than red so that when I draft, I know what's been taken ahead of me. My memory is already goldfishy anyway, so it doesn't need an additional challenge! -WEM

The discarded cards are not shuffled. The last person to draft a card puts the rest of the cards to the bottom of the deck (in any order).

Well, shoot. How did I read the rules three times and miss that?! Thanks for pointing that out! I'll add a note to the video and play more games with the proper rule to see how it compares. -WEM

Great review of a fun game. You had me panicking at the beginning when you started pointing out what was wrong with Tic Tac Toe and Candyland - which I've never seen - thinking you were gonna slam this one too, but you saved the day nicely from then on.

Plot twist! I love the idea of taking something that everyone considers horrible and transforming it. Friedemann did a great job here! -WEM

the uploader is forgetting the Candyland is a kids game and Tic Tac Toe is pretty basic but for youngsters its quite challenging. There's NOTHING wrong with those games as they are NOT adult games! What next , criticizing building blocks? What is it with gamers?

@@skyblazeeterno I can't comment on Candyland because, as I said previously, it's a game I've never seen. And I think you're right about Tic Tac Toe, we gamers do sometimes knock these simple childhood games because we've grown out of them. The funny thing is, games like Tic Tac Toe, Ludo/Parcheesi, Snakes & Ladders, etc. have been around for hundreds, sometimes a thousand years or more, so having stood the test of time, they've proven to have staying power. I really like Full Throttle, but I seriously doubt it'll be knocking around 1300 years from now (like Tic Tac Toe). Good comment Skyblaze Eterno absolutely first class... here, have a thumbs up!

@@skyblazeeterno • One hundred more interesting children's games are on the market, games that provide the "follow the rules, learn to be a good sport" lessons of Candy Land and Tic-Tac-Toe while also being engaging games for older players. -WEM

Check out Long shot the dice game. It is like a more advanced version of this. Also the tokens are numbered in that game, which helps with the color blind issue. Maybe find small number stickers for this game.

Also I wanted to add something to my actual thoughts on the game. I have the also German titled version (I think they are more evocative and come out earlier - free farht is a funny name). So what I really dig about this game is that I whipped it out in front of my family of whom nobody plays games and all of them had an exciting time! Isn’t that cool? Non entrenched players having a good time with a seasoned player? Also, my Dad won the game (thus granting it full protection status from any future cull). Another thing I quite like about this game is how it models democracy in a weird way - the way that individual choices have no real action but everyone creates this collective idea which has a material affect on outcomes. It’s very funny to hear about the stranded yellow, it’s a function of everyone thinking they were getting a sure thing - like buying a bitcoin today or something. I think it’s too easy to dismiss this game and I think other reviewers have elsewhere but there’s a lot of funniness in the game. I think also, what this game does, over a lot of racing games, is that it has a whole glut of movement - it’s not one car at a time between thinking phases. I think it gives the game much more of a kinetic flair which is missing from other racing games.

Thanks for the thoughts, Kunal! My extended family barely plays games, but they enjoyed it, too, so yes, definitely a winner with casual players, thanks to quickly explained rules and the low threshold to getting started. -WEM

We thought the game was just ok. Better racing games to play that offer much more fun and aren't much more difficult to teach either.

There isn't a zeroeth lap, it is the first lap.

When the mopeds line up in front of the checkered flag, they are in the 0th lap. As soon as they cross that flag, their first lap begins and you move their token to 1. -WEM

@@GameOn-gl1xc • From the publisher (boardgamegeek.com/thread/2775453/article/39037869#39037869): "Thus, the track numbers show the current for the moped. Before the race, it is in round 0, then it races through laps 1, 2, and 3, before finishing the race." The first lap doesn't start until a moped crosses the flag, and 0 comes before 1, so I went with 0th lap. You, of course, are welcome to use the terminology of your choice. -WEM

This looks exactly like Flamme rouge! Is the same designer or is just blatantly copied Flamme rouge's mechanics?
@boardgamegeek
@boardgamegeek 2 жыл бұрын
Nope, Full Throttle! is nothing like Flamme Rouge other than both designs being racing games. In Flamme Rouge, you control two bicycles and move them yourself using cards that you play. In Full Throttle!, you are betting on which mopeds will place well in the race, but the mopeds move based on how cards are revealed from a common deck. -WEM

This game sucks. Played once and everyone felt like they had very little agency and it dragged way too long even while being a relatively short game.

@@boardgamegeek It's just such a crapshoot picking cards with the chaotic position changing at the end. It gives you the illusion of choice while keeping cards but it ends up being random chaos. And it feels 10 minutes too long
