That must be quite a complicated job to cut out the mid-train helpers. I'm quite impressed that they can do it so quickly

Yes, I also found it quite impressive how quickly they get it done. Seems to take around 20 minutes max!

Many of the BNSF 7700 series (10:30) have shocking graffiti. They spend too much of their time in California ...

Yeah they always have some pretty cool designs on them

30:10 I don't believe that train is ethanol. I believe it is oil. There are a few refineries in Washington (and I believe also one in Oregon) that see a fair number of oil trains which traverse Mullan Pass. I railfanned along MRL in October and did not see one of those monstrous double grain trains. I hope BNSF is still running them that long. They make economical sense since it is also empty cars going back to the prairies. When BNSF assumes ownership of MRL, they need to double track so much of the line. This video (and what I saw in October) exemplifies that.

Thought it was going to be oil as well, but the labels on the cars all read 1987 which is ethanol, so figured it was empty ethanol. I also didn’t know previously much ethanol went over Mullan Pass, maybe it was a repo train, or the labels were just wrong

They run between 1-5 super trains a day over the MRL, and us crews hate them you absolutely don’t want to see more of them. They kill more westbound crews than you save.
