16:18 is there a reason why there's so much space in between the tracks?

I watch a train video daily of a system in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Very low key but enjoyable. This, however, is major league level train video. The amount of locomotives and the length of the trains is astounding. Great video production.

Why do they start the hill going so slow? Don’t you want to speed up to compensate for the incline. Someone with knowledge please explain
@csaa19802 күн бұрын
Doesn’t really matter. By the time your train is completely on the hill you’re gonna be going about as fast as you can anyway. The speed limits on grades are based on descent to reduce runaways.

I was out on Donner back in July following Big Boy 4014 & one of the other trains I caught that same day with catches of the ZG2LT & Amtrak’s 5 & 6 are an ICBOA which is Council Bluffs, IA-Oakland, CA consisted of refrigerated intermodal containers of Midwest beef bound for export. They ran him over Donner, I did see a couple of INPOAs while out for those several days mainly in Northern Nevada.

So what will Shirley-Ayer look like soon if the intermodal changes for NS power? I assume more BERX traffic leading them or a total loss of B100/B101 in Shirley and Ayer?

Great video. I live in Sacramento and railfan there often. Some more info you may be interested in. The yard is about 5-6 miles long, and is 92 tracks wide at its widest point. They are able to recieve and depart trains on both ends of the yard simultaneously. They also have two hump lead tracks so they can be pushing cars over the hump continuously 24hrs a day if needbe. Unfortunately, much of it can't be seen from the road and there are almost no areas where you can see them humping the cars. I got lucky once and the arrivals yard was empty and you could see the hump in action. You got some good video of the east end. That is probably the best place to railfan, there are just as many trains arriving and departing the west that can't be easily seen. And yes, they have plenty of old SD60M's, SD9043MACs, Dash 8'/9's sitting stored around there in deadlines.

I’m from the Roseville area, growing up I was ALWAYS into trains but for some reason it never occurred to me that I could just go to my backyard and watch them. Roseville yard is one of those gems I regret not visiting in the late 2000’s when I was a boy, that place is full of so much history and the catches are AMAZING. There’s still SPMW snowplows with B units in the middle of the yard
