Part of every Humble Road contract is for the owner to return the van to the Humble Road shop periodically for a thorough examination. We will make sure everything we crafted is working as designed. And it's a great time for added features and treats!

Can you imagine if all RV companies did a tighten up? There's so much poor build quality out there.
@HumbleRoad

Thankfully, our tighten ups have been very minimal in terms of correction. That’s because we took the time to do it right the first time.

Yea sure but then a $20k travel trailer would cost $50k. You can’t compare a $250k custom van to a mass produced RV.
@lynnekerr3890
@lynnekerr3890 Жыл бұрын
True, a full comparison doesn’t really stand up, and is essentially irrelevant. This company is clear about quality, and doesn’t pretend to be “budget”. I wish the average manufacturers would just try a bit harder. Sticks and staples! No good.
@dlg5485
@dlg5485 Жыл бұрын
@@dand5829 Build quality doesn't necessarily add a lot of cost. Poor design and low build quality are mainly the result of apathy and lack of effort, not the desire to cut cost, although that is a factor too. No one expects every RV to have every luxury feature and artful aesthetics, but they certainly should expect everything in their new rig to work. The entire mainstream RV industry needs a reboot. If cost go up a little, so be it, but the status quo is pathetic.

Hey There, George! The take ‘I’ get overall in this video is “80/20 is KING!” HOWEVER (you knew ‘that’ was coming! 😂), you NEVER disappoint me in your ways of fabricating, and, with that how you use it to your advantage in regards to repair..or, in this situation, like, removing Sam’s shower and replacing it with the closet thingy. Absolutely mind blowing to me! I’m actually NOT impressed by much as a rule but since subscribing to Humble Road ions ago YOU have just changed that part of me forever! Btw, and believe it or not, but, the town I live in [here in Texas] is named ‘Humble’ also!…what I call a ‘suburb’ of Houston,Tx!…only WE pronounce it ‘Umble’. Good choice on the two strings of 300w series panels. Higher voltage from the panels is always best for solar since Victron controllers need the panels to be a certain voltage before they send anything to the batteries. Two separate controllers for each side is also a really good decision. It creates redundancy and helps with shading effects on one string not affecting the other. Especially with that AC on the roof.
@HumbleRoad
@HumbleRoad Жыл бұрын
Exactly! Although now-a-days most panels include a diode to prevent the debilitating shade effects in a series string.
@cmprvn
@cmprvn Жыл бұрын
@@HumbleRoadI’ve run a few tests before, and it's still significant in series vs parallel. Series always helps with longer days of solar input (higher voltages longer) while parallel helps with shading deficiencies, mismatched panel wattages or pwm controllers.

FYI, I had Embassy RV, the company that built my van install two Mastervolt MAC Plus 50 amp DC/DC charge controllers that use the Ford factory optional second alternator for a total of 100 amp to my 600ah Lithionics battery bank and it works great. Just have to change the charge profile for lithium to protect the alternator. You may want to look into these units for your customers. I understand that my alternator can handle a total of three Mastervolt MAC Plus units and just may have a third one installed for a total of 150 amps to my battery kit. I have the Victron 3k inverter...

I've been following Embassy for a little over a year and I really like what Terry is doing over there. The seem to have cracked the code on how to build a high quality, well equipped van at a decent price. There are a few items I don't like about Embassy vans, but overall I would seriously consider owning one, if a custom HR van never comes within reach.

I like the running boards, but I am not a fan of those exposed 80/20 ends. Have you ever thought of milling a big end cap that covers the front ends of all 5 rails? Your CNC could mill wood, or aluminum, or you could build a jig and bend some stainless steel rail into a curve? Great work as always George... Hey sir, you need to get yourself a hydraulic lift table so that a single person can lift big items and move them around! Harbor Freight maybe...

Thanks to your previous video regarding the Maxxfan voltage issue, I was able to contact airxcel, and they sent me two new motherboards and my problem is resolved. Prior to receiving the motherboards, I had installed a small voltage regulator inside the fan shroud. My new problem was that even though the regulator stated it was an adjustable DC 3-30V to DC 1.25V-28V Voltage Regulator Step Down Power Supply Module, I could not get it to run the fans properly. The highest setting was still slower than without the regulator, so I removed them and waited for the new motherboard.

As always, a really well done and informative video. I have studied all of your videos and learned a lot that I am applying to my own build. Regarding the Maxxair fan issues, are you still also recommending a conformal coating? Do you use a silicone type for that? I will also be using a dc-dc voltage regulator, but it doesn’t appear that DROK has that one at this time, so I will probably use the one from XWST.

Anything 12 volt should be behind a DC to DC converter, just to take the varying voltage from the vehicle and correcting that to be stable. Arguably, perhaps, the alternator from the vehicle shouldn't be affecting the voltage level in the house part at all, even if you use it for charging.

The fact that the MaxxAir Fan mfr. didn't immediately propose a permanent solution and instead relies on craft persons like yourself to rescue his product is one more reason another supplier should design, build and sell a better. I've noticed the remote is a PoS. The interior flange as well. The LED is too bright for night cabin sleeping, the controls are too close for someone half awake to adjust them, it has 5 speeds to many and the zinger is the lid. The lid should slide right or left, by choice of the installer instead of raising up or down. The benefits of operation as is are negligent compared to being able to mount PV above these things.

George Mauro, National Treasure of Van Conversion Artists. I can't thank you enough for all of the information that you have shared so freely. If not for you, I would have no idea of the many quirks of the High Roof Ford Transit Cargo van. I need AWD or 4WD where I live. Additionally, I wouldn't want the hassle of searching for diesel in remote areas or looking for a dealership that could service the Sprinter. Have you considered the under-mount AC units in the Transits? Also, I've seen very thin, flexible solar panels from Renogy that must weigh nearly nothing. Are those too inefficient? I hope you and yours are safe from the crazy weather that has hit the East Coast.

*anything* automotive used to, and still should, be rated for 10-17v and operate normally within that range. With the stste of electronics we have today where they can sell a phone charger that works from 85 to 245v I find it very sloppy design for a fan to fail like that and I would not be using such a product in anything I put my name to. I must admit to falling foul of such an issue around 5 times years ago with the 5v regulator the often used 1117, its useless in an automotive environment. these are often used in lvehicle ed lighting and other remote controlled automotive products
