Replay Operator was in the right. He spotted the mistake, told VAR to delay to correct the decision. The ones who were in the wrong were VAR and VAR assistant. After seeing the 2D line at 0:47, VAR started the mess by saying "check complete. That's fine" leading to the confusion. After the Replay Operator told him it was wrong and told him to delay, VAR and his assistant again makes the wrong decision in letting the play run instead of bringing it back to allow for the goal. You could have told the ref and let the ref make the decision. They just assumed there "there is nothing we can do". But there was. THEY SHOULD'VE LISTENED TO THE REPLAY OPERATOR

At 0:15 Diaz scored a goal. At 0:50 we have a cut to the free kick. That is 35 seconds. In real time, 39 seconds passed from Diaz's goal to free kick. So, there are four seconds missing in both audio and video. If you listen carefully from 0:46 to 0:50, you can hear Darren England saying _"Check complete, check complete. That's fine, prefect. Off."_ "Off" is the exact moment where the audio has been cut, which leaves me wondering what does "off" mean? Is it "offside"? If so, why has it been cut from the audio? Could it be that PGMOL is saving the VAR room from an even bigger outrage by trying to cover up the fact that England actually called offside, but they did a poor job at cutting up the audio?

Even during the game I noticed that when they showed the screen they actually cut the VAR footage away before even bringing the lines up like they normally do during TV coverage. I knew something was fishy even right then and there. It's crazy. Even with the technology to stop robberies, teams can still be robbed.

Normally they switch the tv signal to the var screen so you watch the check in real time. I also believe commentators have an audio feed in real time from the referees and var room. So its odd neither of these happened.. oh and 2 red cards just to make sure of the outcome. Match should be replayed. When you listen to the audio at no time has either team confirmed what exactly they are checking for. The biggest culprit is Assistant Referee 1 because it is he who calls all the play back. Assistant Referee 2 initially gives the goal. He says "give it". Everything then becomes a total confusion between Assistant Referee 1, the on pitch referee, the VAR anaiyser doesn't tell the referee what they are looking for is it on-side not off-side which is what the match referee thinks they are checking for. They did check for the off-side and did not confirm with the on pitch referee that they had checked for Salah and Diaz being off-side and that they weren't and at that point they should have told the referee we are now checking for onside, please wait for confirmation. When VAR says "Check complete check complete that's fine perfect" Assistant Referee 1, who initially pulled the play back, doe's not explain that Diaz is on-side give the goal, the referee thinks its off-side still because that's what he thinks they have been checking for and so begins the play from the wrong off-side position anyway. I would suggest this is Howards Webb's fault because he has allowed this methodology to exist for all this time and we now know why VAR keeps getting so many decision wrong. Howard Webb doesn't know what he is doing. He does not know how to get the interaction between these 6 different people, whom have to communicate between each other, concisely in a very short period of time to get VAR to work.

People don't know anything about the problem and why a replay match must be held, so I'll explain why. It's not about judgement of red card, handball or something like that, in which referee's judgement is involved and can be controversial, but by referee's call, it's decided. In this VAR case, VAR referee, who was in charge of the judgement of onside or offside, called it was onside, which means a goal, but the goal was disallowed. You know, when it comes to red card or handball, the on-field referee sometimes checks the video himself, which is the on-field check, but when it comes to onside or offside, the on field referee doesn't check it. Why not? Onside or offside is just a technical issue without human judgement involved. Just draw a line and you see. If it's onside, onside. If it's offside, offside. No human judgement involved at all like the goal line system. You guys know about the goal line system, right? It alarms the referee that it's a goal when the ball crosses the goal line. It's the totally same situation as when the goal line system calls that it's a goal but the referee disallows the goal. Can you accept it?

There are so many things wrong with the way this team have operated VAR and communicated between each other that they all need re-training or removing from the VAR team altogether, because this is a shambles. Even the referee assumed that Salah was off-side because the free kick was taken from Salah's last kick of the ball position and it was Diaz that was suppose to be given off-side. The referee has assumed that Salah is off-side but how can Salah be off-side when he has a spurs player in-front of him when he plays the ball.

Just the classic communication error of two different assumptions of the starting point of the discussion (goal allowed or disallowed) followed by too simple affirmative answer "Check complete, that's fine, perfect". Then accumulated with the fast restart (if a goal had been given, there would have been another 30 seconds before the game restarted) - but that is not a root cause. Simplest fix is that VAR should state always fully the outcome of what they checked: "Diaz was on-side".

I think that VAR officials thought that the on field call was a goal, and they had to confirm that it was good. However that wasn’t the case. The on field car was offside so they had to revert that call and instead confirmed it thinking it was confirming a goal.

Why were they not watching the game in real time to see what the original call was? thats the big question that puzzles me. In other incidences when an onfield ref has missed a big call like red card or penalty they alert him for checking meaning they are watching the game. Why in this moment did they miss all the onfield happenings like the flag being raised, Diaz not celebrating with any Liverpool player, Screen indicating ''Checking disallowed goal'' why did they all miss this? Oky one would miss but why all two?
