I really like the whirlpool washers they made in the 80s I so wish I had one of those today because they were built to last and washed clothes really well we were a family of 10 and we had one growing up I used to use it all the time and it washed so well I miss those old whirlpool washers

Those old belt drive machines were an excellent product. I have an old Kenmore from 1973 and i have done some repairs on it and it still keeps on going. Will keep it going as long as possible.

I have to say this washer washes like a boss and No Non since like today's newer washers ain't nothing but garbage I always said old school is far better than New school because back in the day they knew what they're were doing and Now the New age have No idea what their doing and these days they make nothing but garbage these days.And yes old school is always better than New school

Look how well those pants were handled in that vintage washer. I daresay better than most of the other washes that you’ve tested. True quality and performance. Just amazing how your little green rags appeared and disappeared so quickly. They just sat there in your HE wash plate washers.

I always thought that though Speed Queen and Maytag might have had an edge in quality, Whirlpool washed and removed lint better than any other washer.

I think Whirlpool belt drives were just as good quality as a Speed Queen or Maytag .They were heavily built products. They had to be as the whole suspension system relies on the rigidity of the cabinet.

And this ladies & gentlemen, is One piece agitation done right. No bs tub indexing. Plus the agitators aren't bolted to the tub like modern ones. You can take it out and replace it with a better one.

Also, if you take a look at the solid Bake-A-Lite agitators in the old wringers (VisaMatics esp.) their agitators had curved vanes, kind of like scoops - the action they gave was amazing - of course, if you let your clothes wash too long, you could wind up with threads.

I tried so hard to find this washer in a 3.7 compactly. Than I came across the 2015 speed queen awn542 model. Which is very close to this. Just wish the agitator fins was a bit wider. Sucks speed queen don't make after market agitators that would fit. I can say one thing. Speed queen definitely took the best qualities from maytag and whirlpool and made into one washer. Just with the Fins was a bit wider.

Blackdragon79 Yeah. I got you. I thought that was probably what you meant . I think the flex vane in the pre 2018 Speed Queens are plenty good as they are . Every load I have washed in my SQ has always had good turnover even fully loaded. Like you said, SQ took the best of Maytag and Whirlpool,... especially in the agitator's design and combined the two designs to make the best modern agitator out there. I think instead of flex vane they should call it the super-surgi-power-flexolator ? Doesn't really toll off the tongue though does it ?...LOL

Why isn’t the lint filter working? They were one thing that old machines had I thought that were really helpful in keeping lint off of the other clothes. The 60’s Kenmores and the 70’s Westinghouses had these - GE too - I liked GE’s system- easy to empty. And of course these machines had wig-wags to change from agitate to spin and you get a woo-woo like no other!

For such a packed load, it has amazing turnover, try that in a modern machine or even a 2017 SQ.

Yup, Surgilators were brutes. To a lot of you younger folks born in the past 20 to 30 years, you got to remember these agitators were designed at a time when more people were working a lot of dirty jobs. Factory work, farming, mechanics, and the list goes on. A washer today like this is still needed and there would be a market for it. Would cost probably more than 3 to 4 times as much today to be made this way again, but then again a washer is a much needed MAJOR APPLIANCE.

It makes me want to kick my A207 Maytag to the curb for something like this instead. I have started my Bendix Combo restoration. Hope to make a video of that some day. Apparently they wash pretty well too.

richard3700hz To think that Bendix tied up all the patents for front load washers. We might have been a nation of front load washers much sooner had not Bendix made it hard for the other manufacturers......thank goodness they did.

My problem is that I am only 18 and trying to acquire more stuff into my father's garage is a bit of a struggle. I had to sell the Duo to them him as a dryer that could be used with the Maytag, I would definitely try to sell the 'tag to someone who would appreciate it. I may end up getting a Bendix Deluxe bolt down from someone this summer and then the MT will have to go. Given the choice between a short tub MT and this Whirlpool, I think I would have to choose this. Both are fine machines though, after a while the MT has become a little boring to watch, no loud clicks and clunks from solenoids, no splashy water action and no overall unique sound like a BD "woo-woo" or a solid tub SQ "click-clunk" at the end of the agitation arc.
