I almost felt like cheering when that one pant that was floating for sooo long finally took the plunge ! I was starting to doubt the washer until then, but it worked out well eventually.

I gasped out loud when I saw the control panel!!! Wow. That’s a nice machine! Great find, Eugene! She sounds a little rough during the agitation, but nothing that isn’t fixable. Hard to believe this is a 40 or so year old machine. I also have to say this machine looks rather small - maybe just the video, but when your hands are near it, it looks like a smaller capacity machine.

Love this Washer I saw this on a speed queen demo where they replaced this exact washer and matching dryer with the new versions, the lady was testing out for speed queen. I was amazed that they had digital controls back then.

Awe the Raytheon era. This has been most likely this noisy most of its 40 years of service. In commercial use a room full of them back then running would drive you insane. So as far as sound decibels these were not great for apt buildings in terms of noise made. There’s some wear going on for sure, but in great SQ fashion it can be repaired. Hopefully the outer tub has still got life left in it! Just keep on trucking’ with it! 👍👍

I already miss my cheap washer from the mood 90's that had a good soak start that you could set how long it would soak before starting to wash, and also offered warm rinse too. I now have a nice Speed Queen, but even it doesn't have the features of a cheap washer from the past.

Nice washer, and a very rare find to find an early 80s electronic Speed Queen. I like for it’s time Speed Queen was in competition with the electronic variants from Kenmore/Whirlpool, and here it seems SQ outdid them by adding a digital cycle countdown. Overall, this washer seems to run good for its age, probably needs a new belt and oil to the pulleys, but can definitely run and outlast the el-cheapo electronics that have unfortunately plagued modern day washers. Hope one day you find an electronic belt-drive Kenmore/Whirlpool from either the late 70s or early 80s, and put it head to head with this SQ

Reminds me of main frame computers. Cool the way the water comes in. I am going to a shrink I cant believe I am here watching a load of wash being done. The worn out sound of it is great. I can almost smell the old gear oil leaking and the belts.

Wow! Very unique old school machine with digital controls. The fact that the control panel still works after 40 years of use in a damp basement blows up the myth that they are unreliable.

This model is similar to the newest laundromat version . The difference is the modern version is an HE front loader. Pretty cool.

Hey! Cool machine! Good to know SQ have had experienced digital control panels before. If you look thoroughly, I believe you can clearly see the roots of 2017-2023 control design there. Very close and well inspired by their so called “Marathon” model. Anyway, what’s that big squirt at 23:15 or basically every time machine starts to agitate post filling up??

Seems like it does very well. These a adjatater washer though wear out the clothes fast. I have one of those propeller washers. I didn't it think it would do the job , but does very well.

@@patcola7335 when I was growing up we had a whirlpool wringer washer, before that we had kenmore I think. It did very well. Moma didn't change the water that much , till it was a bit dingy. I used to help her do the laundry. That was in the 50's. I was 5 and 6 years old. When we moved we went to a laundromat. Now 50 years later or should I say 60 years later, I have my own. I love my zokop portable washer, it spin dries up to 30 min. I also have a della. It does very well to. It has a pump.

These things were in coin-laundries, apartments and dorms all over the place. They did a great job of cleaning. O.k. job of rinsing, typical S.Q. 700rpm spin, and they were noisy! I did not like that the spray-rinse did not send much water over to the inside tub. I'm sure it flushed the outer tub of suds but not the clothes and inner tub. I never had an opportunity to "modify" one like I did on the Hotpoint Filter-Ring machines but I'm sure it can be done. Otherwise I always thought once the cabinet was lined with Dynomat (sound-proofing) these were really good and sturdy machines.

Is your water really soft. I use Tide Pods and very rarely have any suds. You always seem to have suds with just one Tide Pod.

Funny I think this tub actually looks smaller. I think it's spacial effect because the agitator is skinny and doesn't have that large softener dispenser on top
