Great job on refurbing and renovating this washer. I would love to have one in my home as well. These are direct and straight to the point, and they get the job done on a consistent basis. I sure would love a Sears Kenmore or a Whirlpool like this. Now all you got to is replace those dogs in the auger post in that agitator, and this washer will be ON POINT!! These machines get the job done in 35 minutes or so (something you can’t say about a High Efficiency Front Loader (outside of a Speed Queen or an LG (with their Turbo Wash option))). -Charles-

I remember having one of these back when we lived in SC when I was 5, I remember it quit working when we moved into our big house so my mom got a front loader we had it right up until we lost our house to the fire in 2015. You can always recognize that noise at 16:40 lol we all recognize it even from most front loaders. I used to love hearing it the top load we have now by Kenmore you can hardly hear it run.

If I could have two washers in my laundry room I’d definitely have a whirlpool direct drive in addition to my LG WM4370. It’s just a no bull dependable washer and I love the sound. I’ve used 3 different variations in my life and would definitely own one again.

FIXED MINE. My washer had the same clunking noise, found out it was coming from the fabric softener applicator pod thingy that pulls out the top of the agitator. It's a loose fit and actually vibrates around. I took it out and the noise stopped so I added a layer of electrical tape to the top edge of the pod that seats down into the agitator hole making it a tight fit and no more clunk. 10 years later still quiet. Something to try.

My grandma had a mid 90s model that was Kenmore but it died so she replaced it with a Whirlpool VMW washer that was purchased in 2017. I don’t know if that machine had any repairs yet but it’s still a piece junk. Wait, I forgot. It did get repaired before. Typical modern machine. I believe she had to replace the drive hub and suspension rods on that machine.

Love seeing machines like these, me? Ha my first one was free with only bad agitator dogs and that’s it! Cosmetically it wasn’t great but who cares it does an amazing job, and my second one, same thing. These machines are thrown out without knowing how great they actually are

I'm all for the vintage washers. Today's washers take way too long to even wash one single load of clothes. Their spin cycles are okay but it's their extended wash cycles and multiple rinses are very annoying. I'd rather stick with the vintage washers because they're straightforward and to the point.

The way that I measure the dosage of detergent is on the side of the scoop or top of the bottles top’s indices which both are numbered according to capacity.

I had a direct drive Whirlpool with that option in the Normal cycle and it was great to use automatically.

You can buy sodium tripolyphosphate on Amazon and add it to your laundry loads or even mix some in with powdered detergent that way you don’t have to separately measure it every time. That’s the phosphate laundry and dishwasher detergents used to use. I do it the first way. I usually use two tablespoons for a completely full load, about a tablespoon for medium/medium-large loads and about maybe a teaspoon for smaller loads. A lot of people will say use TSP (trisodium phosphate) like from Lowe’s or Home-depot which that may work for some people but the correct chemical is sodium tripolyphosphate.

Do you still have this machine? I might be interested in buying it if it's in my budget. I can't stand the so called "high efficiency" machines. They had those modern pieces of junk at my school, and they were always breaking down. I love direct drive models. My parents have had the same machine for 30 years and it still works great. I want one for my house before they are all gone.

So how do these older ones compare to the newer Speed Queens and Whirlpool Commercial washers as far as cleaning? I’ve only used these older ones and never had complaints with cleaning.

These were great machines. Had 2 over the years. I have to say though I prefer the wash action of the Amana I have now. It's just a shame that the VMW design isn't nearly as reliable as these machines were.

Never had any clothes ripped or frayed from these machines. The 2003 Kenmore 90 I had was one of the most versatile top loaders i ever had. Wish I could have it back again.

@@huuhoangmanh685 Well using laundry detergent and a lot of water is not harming the enviorment the EPA knows that the point of these low water washers is because of the water crisis in california texas and other places. I think the water conservation is stupid but you gotta save as much water as possible

In Vietnam where is my country I live, even saving water as much as people can, most top load washing machines are never labeled as "High Efficiency", because they still have variable water level use, and yep they use correct amount of water, depend on the load how much do you put. With the very great washing performance, it does not need to have complaints, unlike most HE top load machines which take over 1 hour and still not the best results, sometimes even has dry spots, which means they use not enough water
