Yeah, except I get the impression the rest of the band found that to be annoying. Jason had been following the band for years so he was a mega fan, and James said they wanted to "un-fan" him. Jason acts like he has band for years, but James. Lars and Kirk have only known him for less than a year at this point, I can imagine how that can be kind of grating.

The years-long hazing he endured was a shame, like if ANYONE joined their favourite band they'd be stoked as hell, pretty immature of the guys to hold that against him

This is when James’ confidence began to rise and started asserting his presence much more. In the Cliff years, yes he wrote the songs, but he was a very shy person where Lars and Cliff did a lot more of the press. After Cliff passed , James really stepped up his dominance as you could tell by the time Justice came out. That’s just my 2 cents

Yeah. You can see afterwards Cliff's death had a huge impact on him. It had been a few years but when Justice came out he looked older and sang deeper. He lost a brother and that had to be the hardest thing for him since his mother passed. Actually even Kirk and Lars matured quite a bit from the heartache as well.

They are interesting, noble attempts to be sure - Yet in general the bass guitar is always just a little too loud and / or 'out of place' in the mix. If anything for more audible bass guitar, the best (despite being quite unpolished overall) are Flemming's own rough mixes.

@@XXLRebel I don't think they were implying it was bad per se', just that you can tell how passionate they were, and hungry they were. When they wrote 8 songs, all 8 songs went on the album. When they found mega-success it afforded them almost too much time to overthink everything to death in the studio. Before mega-success they'd basically have the album written and THEN hit the studio.

THEY were Legends in Germany in 1987. I got stationed there in January 1987 in the Army. All i saw in Stuttgart was metal fans with demin and leather jackets with patches of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, etc. They loved the heavy stuff. The heavier the better. When i left the USA a month before it was all Poison, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi.

He's not sad at this moment in time. He just wants Jason to stfu. Jason always seemed to push it a bit too far in the beginning with interviews and James and the others didn't care too much for it cause he hadn't put in his dues but would always talk like he did. Just listen to him. James is frowning and probably thinking, "I'm gonna get on his ass about this once we're alone. " All while trying to hide it to the public so no one would think he was a dick. Some of you guys have no idea how bad the hazing was for Jason. It was very very brutal.

Damn! Hetfield is the man. He is king. He's got virtue and charisma. He's real, doesn't waste time of others and has the skills to fuck the shit out! He has done so many things right, because he is LEADER. Many try to copy him, but can't never beat the original. NEVER. I love him. He hasn't changed. True king. He's persona is something special that people follow like a magnet. Hetfield does not talk to gain (useless) attention. He does not need it. He is real! Best. Whole package is dope!!! He has purpose to give and live with a purpose. Nowdays so many people try to take without giving, but James is the HERO!

I respectfully disagree about doing everything right, he disrespected Jason by being the insecure control freak that he was. I love MetallicA but I can't defend the James that screwed Jason.

Dave Mustaine is the King. Not hetfield. Mustaine is much more talented as a musician, and has a bad boy character as a rock star.

If I was James Hetfield, I’d be kinda disturbed by that comment. lol Relax dude, he’s human like all of us, he’s just blessed to be able to express himself as well as he can musically and he’s lucky people got to hear it because talent alone doesn’t win you stages in arenas.
