Ian watching transmission install and did not see throw out bearing install on clutch arm. The bearing drives on sleeve so that it has solid mount for that back-and-forth movement. Turn bearing so large surface is touching pressure plate arms. Pinion is sometimes longer than the bellhousing so it can get into the engine crankshaft bushing. New bolts will allow you check on bearing and replace bolts.

I use to rebuild clutches when I was 18, trucks,Army tanks ,drag cars those were great days ,but there was possibly 2 things were missing on the thro out bearing that attaches too the thro out fork .their should of been 2 spring clip type things that holds the thro out bearing too the clutch fork so that both thro out bearing & fork stay together ,I also noticed that there wasn't a spring that holds the fork over the ball that the clutch fork pivots on too. But what I know I only rebuilt the actual clutch itself. Ps. I hope you don't have to pull it all apart, cause that looked frustrating 😒 😂👍

I love your channel and the two of you. I collected oarts of my custom car for twenty years. Shortly after I retired the doctors descended with their stoic and grim opinions. I feel great but cannot leave my bed for the bext 60 days while they get ready to do something. I have forced my wife and son to make me a work bench and tools as a part of my bed. I can grind, sand, clean and fit all the little stuff. I will start the conversion of the 6 volt dash to 12 volt soon. The bench over my bed is large enough to draw out the wiring disgram. The fed-ex guy is fully on board and comes in to see how I am doing. I beat most panels into submission but cannot weld from my bed. So I work on perfecting everything else. I August I will be welding even if I am in a chair. I have already confirmed that the welding will not interfere with my pace maker. I have a year left on the Clipler “B”. So that shkuld be just about right. Love you, love cars, love America.

Glad to hear you haven't given up Larry. Too many do on doctors advice. I'd be on a mobility scooter except for an honest older doctor telling me to keep riding bicycles. I have physical problems now due to a life of hard and/or heavy work and bike riding is the only exercise I can do that doesn't hurt, well not too much anyway, lol.

Ian - I've watched all different versions of "your" KZbin videos and as a systems engineer who has been working on vehicles for 40 years it's great to see you laying into cars with hammers and sawzalls. Watching you batter panels into shape and create almost from scratch steering and suspension systems is impressive, but there's one thing I've seen you do that I've never seen attempted by anyone else. I've seen tee-shirts, sweatpants and even underwear, but you're the first person I've ever seen use a sock as a cleaning rag! Keep it coming dude!

Release bearing may be on backwards ?????? In the 1950’s International trucks had the same set up, bearing goes almost all the way on the collar then a hammer and block of wood seats it the rest of the way. then only the outer part of the bearing rotates. The complete gearing shouldn’t spin on the collar………….Love your show…..

I showed my Wife how to change a tire, then she called me complaining that she couldn't get the spare out of the trunk because my tool box was too heavy to lift out of the way... The throw out bearing has a hardened face to press against the clutch forks. It should be press fit to assure the bearing spins on forks but not on the release bearing housing. Older clutch linkages usually are a rod that has a ball ( for pivot ), and not cables, all mechanical. The ball pulls against the fork and releases the pressure plate.

Hi Jamie and Ian !! Man the jeep is getting there ! Gonna be Cool , Cool ! Always a bummer when parts don't fit the way they should...I wouldn't have figured jeep would be that way , but it is what it is. Years ago I did a few restorations on British motorcycles. A lot of the aftermarket parts were made in India. They were awful ! You wouldn't think it would be more expensive to make parts that fit than one's that don't ! You're making great progress and it'll be cool to see & hear it running. I'm guessing you'll have to use the access plate on the top/back of the bell housing to put the nut on the new cable when you get it. Great plot twist: have a bolt jump into the xfer case! "Is that bad?" You both make "reality" look so spontaneous and natural, but we all know the writers and producers took a week to get that sequence just right, and fumbling with mega magnet was genius. Your timing and reactions were perfect. How many takes? Turns mudane assembly instruction into entertainment. We learned, related, and laughed. And where else (my garage?) will anyone use a carriage bolt for a bell housing? Will the jeep drive before or after the correct bolts are swapped out?

37:57 🟥 I could be wrong but, I think the throwout bearing itself has a machine surface on one side where it contacts the pressure plate. I'm almost certain the bearing, when positioned correctly, gets pressed onto the retainer/actuator as to help it return to rest position when the pedal is released. Thus insuring the bearing stays with the retainer and not separate and flop around causing problems. Just saying. P S, don't forget to grease your fork pivot ball. Balls love grease 🤪

Ian, I shared your car-building mishap with my wife, what a flashback in 2000-2001, my 1986 Cherokee 4L Stright Six, cover gasket needed replacing & I dropped a bolt that fell into the engine next to the rod. mine turned into a nightmare & I had to coast and push it to the local shop 5 blocks downhill. $$$$$ I think I may have opened another Pandora's box with my Lady. Good Times right!

Ive been wrenching for over 35 years (on my own stuff not as a profession) and I still have those kind of days. So don’t get to hard on yourself. We all have those kind of days, and those who don’t, are lying through their teeth.

You need the two side bell Housing bolts to be the specific alignment bolts. I had issues with clutch and it was the fact I used regular bolts.

I just discovered your channel, I been watching FCG for years and looked forward to the new builds. The Boxer Sportscar was just fantastic. The C-Cab Ford was so cool. Now I subscribed to you and Jamie.
