Well he could be accurate if it wasn't Tatum. He's too chunky, making his action scenes look really slow and sloppy. He's also too old, making him look like an adult trying to act like he's a teenager. He's also not a good actor, his face has almost zero expression while he keeps yapping in an accent that makes him look even more ridiculous than the tight rubber on his neck. There's a reason why Deadpool mocked him so much and it shows.

@@radrno7 and Wolverine is 5'3" making Hugh's portrayal of Wolverine inaccurate. i too thought his cheeks/neck was a bit fat, but in comics, a character's body also changes, sometimes Wolverine is too bulky and muscular as well as Deadpool, like they've been overdosing on steroids and looking like a Hulk build, sometimes they have more muscular athletic builds, where their body is more believable. their body builds changes constantly in comics as they constantly have different artists. it's just one of those things you have to get over in order to enjoy the actor's portrayal of the character, and the portrayal of the character was enjoyable. i feel like a lot of people are basing their interpretation of Gambit's build to X-Men's 90's cartoon and X-Men's 97 cartoon build in where he's not so chubby and they just can't get over it. also from what i've heard, his accent is on point with lore accurate Gambit as it is a thick Louisiana accent. as for facial expressions, i saw no reason why he needed to have much facial expressions. the only non-accurate thing about him that's a legitimate argument yet you're not complaining about is the eyes as it's not black and red. which shows that you don't really care about accuracy nor how enjoyable the character was in Tatum's portrayal, you just don't want that actor specifically.

@@edwinplayer Wolverine's portrayal is done amazingly by Hugh Jackman, who is a GREAT actor, which Channing Tatum is NOT, and nothing in Hugh's body keeps him from playing the character (except for his health, of course), where as Channing's body does, because Wolverine looks old where as Gambit does not. You would be better off comparing him to someone like Tobey as Spidey, but even then he also has aged with the character so it's really just Channing that is the problem. And yeah, you're right, my problem is with Tatum, I don't consider him good enough for the role and it's simple as that. He was fun to watch for a couple of scenes as a parody of Gambit and that's it. The black eyes are just one of the missing elements, which isn't ALL there is to the character, hence why I didn't put them as a dealbreaker. If all you care about are looks, then you're better off looking for a cosplayer than a real actor in the character.

My only complaint about Gambit is that his costume being accurate puts every other superhero costume to shame, even Deadpool and Wolverine, and their costumes are incredible. My main issue is I wish ALL superhero costumes were held to the same standard as Gambit’s. Imagine if the cohesion of comic accuracy allowed for vibrant colors, no padded suits or armor, and more zany looking comic designs. We’re so far removed from Batman and Robin from the 90s that I think we can handle genuine comic accurate costume designs. Gambit should be the gold standard going forward.

That costume, while accurate, looked corny and the headpiece looked really odd. Did you notice how deadpool had a squeaky clean costume, that got dirty throughout the film? Yet Gambit has a glossy perfect look, despite living in the void. Where everyone else is dirty and grungy. The clothes may have been accurate, but the character was not.

I liked seeing them two, channing was wierd though, he felt like he didn't belong there, not at that time anyway.. It was the squeaky clean armour. Not a scratch kr a drop of blood or dirt.. The best part about his Cajun accent is that as a Cajun. You can hear the 337 influence of it more then the 985 area. He says cher not sha, and other words that he uses their inflections more so. However, if you are not from this area you wouldn't hear some of the differences. Because each bayou and city had it's own dialect.

@@theamazingspooderman2697 I know, but it’s a similar problem to the one I have with overly designed suits that always end up looking like they belong in the same universe too much. Same tired unnecessary texture lines, same design philosophies over and over again. My point is that MCU is usually too homogeneous when it comes to building the playground and the characters so that they all fit together like puzzle pieces when needed. Here Blade, Electra and Gambit and Cassandra Nova (as she is I can easily imagine her one of the bosses in the Ultimate Alliance) truly felt like something straight from that era of Marvel because of how visually and characterisation-wise different they all were and yet the chemistry naturally was there, it wasn’t forced and polished by cliche-bickering or any other tired Whedonisms that at this point became so synonymous with writing a superhero team-up movie. This took me back to childhood memories of old-school diverse pre-MCU Marvel that I grew up with.

Tatum is a bit too muscular/broad to fit Gambit arguably; as hes always been a more sleek acrobatic kind of guy. A thief or a trickster. Although if you can accept a tall Wolverine it isnt too big of a deal (also he’s 1.60 or 5,3; not an actual midget like the movie portrayed)

My favourite Gambit memory is from the animated series where the X-men are getting trounced by Apocalypse and Gambit appears out of nowhere and flies a single seater jet into Apocalypse’s face flipping out the cockpit just before impact and announcing, “ The names Gambit, remember it.” As the jet explodes it Apocalypse’s face and turns the tide of battle. X-Men 97 was a big time miss for me. The main reason X-Men TAS was as big as it was is because the comics of the time reflected the comic characters in the show, with none of the modern nonsense we have today to hold it back, although it was held back by the ways of its own time. Continuing on over 20 years later just made it seem disjointed, and really, the Rogue and Gambit storyline was fast tracked and messed with for what reason? Honestly, the only one to voice Gambit for me is Chris Potter. If Channing Tatum can imitate, or learn to slow his speech down a little bit and speak clearly, he'd have 100% won me over. This isn't to bash his portrayal, not by any means at all! He did a great job as Gambit, and the fact he's a fan of the character and has fought for the character makes me think he'd do his utmost best to portray him in the best way possible. Just needs to tweak it a little bit to make it work better. Constructive criticism.

@@T-800I Yeah, I went into X-Men 97 expecting it to be a bit off due to the many years since the last real season. So I didn't have high expectations. As for Gambit's age, that can be kinda debated. He had quite a full life before he became an adult, and then you got time travelling shenanigans, it may be hard to pin down his actual age in comics. I tend to think of him in his late 20s, but more like early 30s. Also, different writers and artists tend to have different ideas on his age, and that confuses it more. Beau DeMayo is getting lauded for X-Men 97, despite getting fired, and well... he did alright-ish, but they could have done so much better. Supposedly, Disney was/is getting rid of the activists and all, which would be good if I believed them every time they said things along those lines in the past. So, no faith in Disney. Personally, I liked Rogue and Gambit's relationship. You have a guy who has, among his list of powers, an ability to literally charm the pants off anyone, can have anyone at any time, and yet he wants someone he can't have. So he's had to learn patience, he's had to learn to slow things down, and he's had to learn loyalty because of that. If it weren't initially for Storm, and then Rogue, Gambit likely would have split from the X-Men. I think what destroyed his character was opening the curtain on everything "mysterious" about him. Same goes for Logan. They built two characters who's main draw was their mysteriousness, and then just revealed everything making their characters less special or interesting. I would rather have a cloud over certain aspects, where you aren't sure 100% where his loyalties lie until he proves it through actions, and yet keep his motivations a mystery or have him just shrug it off as "Ah well, just part of the hero schtick" with a wink and nod.

Tatum's Cajun accent was really thick, but as accurate as it gets. He grew up in the bayou of Mississippi, so he's quite familiar with it. Also just a side note, I haven't heard any of the Gambit voice actors get the Cajun "cher" right. It's pronounced more like a "sha"

Gambit was/is my favorite X-MEN character. And I was equally heartbroken when we found out his solo Fox film was no longer happening. Plus, I have a very personal story with this character and my mom that I don't feel like sharing in the comments, and she unfortunately just passed away in May 2022. So, I literally almost teared up as I saw that floating card come around the corner and him catching it. The comic book accuracy of his suit is just something beautiful to behold. I honestly don.t see how they could've done it any better. And Channing's portrayal of him with the accent and the agile movements and fighting abilities were just insane. I honestly still can't believe that it actually happened, lol. We're going to see it again tomorrow, and my personal main reason is Gambit, and seeing the cowl on Wolverine after ALL THESE YEARS of waiting!! Bravo to everyone involved with the film. You guys absolutely killed it!! But a special thank you to Ryan Reynolds for talking Marvel into bringing in Gambit and making not only ours, but Channing's dream come true as well. I was telling a friend (who had seen Deadpool and Wolverine) that this year was probably one of my favorite years ever in comic book movies/shows because we finally got a GREAT Gambit in '97. Him and Nightcrawler have always been my two favorite Xmen so obviously '97 was just so AWESOME to me. She just smiled and nodded along and moved on from the subject. Two days later I saw Deadpool and Wolverine and lost my god damn mind. We ACTUALLY got a live action Gambit that wasn't shit. Hell that's not fair to say because Channing was fucking amazing. I could NOT stop gushing about it. I had rolled my eyes years ago when I heard him talk about Gambit, but man I was wrong. The dude LOVES the character and it shows. I'll be honest, I'd never heard of Gambit before this movie. I'm not much of a comic guy or superhero guy and I only watched Deadpool because I heard it was ironic and fourth-wall breaking (which is my sense of humor). But I liked the first two movies and was excited for this one. And when Gambit first showed up, something about him and his swag kinda just captivated me. Tatum didn't have much screen time in this movie but he absolutely stole the show when he did imo. The card powers are such a cool concept and I think they gave him a lot of character in the limited time he had. I'm glad you Gambit fans finally got to see him in live action, it must have been so exciting.

I’ve been saying for the longest that they need to do a live action Avengers vs. X-Men movie. I’ve also said that the only way for the X-Men, and mutants in general, to be introduced into the MCU at this point, is by saying that they came from another Earth. Mutants don’t have the luxury of keeping their existence hidden from the rest of the world like the Inhumans, Eternals, and vampires do. So if the people in the MCU haven’t learned about them yet, it’s because they don’t exist in their world, despite what they tried to sneak by with Ms. Marvel, and Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Mutants getting a fresh start on a whole new world, but getting into conflict with the Avengers trying to keep the peace. And everything becoming undone by the Rogue and Carol Danvers conflict. Rogue touching Carol for too long, knocking her unconscious, and getting her powers, and it’s seen on live television, which makes people worried that if one mutant is capable of taking down their most powerful hero, then all mutants must be just as dangerous. And that’s what puts mutants and the X-Men back at square one in the MCU. All because of the actions of one "Rogue" mutant.
