In the season one finale, specifically the mid-credits scene, Apocalypse was shown holding a burnt Queen of Hearts card by Gambit after his death and attack on Genosha. With technology to resurrect mutants, Gambit will serve as one of the Horsemen of Apocalypse, specifically Death. Unlike in the comics where he volunteered, season two will show him being brought back to life by Apocalypse not out of his own free will. How Gambit will be snapped out of that persona will probably be Rogue since she is fighting for justice to his death and that she was the closest to Gambit.

X-Men Evolution did one thing right. In the final pic they showed Gambit as a member of the team with the acknowledgment that Rogue was the cause of his change in direction. The age difference always bugged me though. X-Men in the 90s and X-Men 97 made their ages appropriate. And I honestly think X-Men 97 nailed both Gambit and Rogue. It worked.

There was an age gap in Evolution, but the show seemed to put Remy and Rogue on equal ground. When they first meet, Remy uses his charm to lower Rogue’s defenses; modern audiences could argue this as inappropriate, but he just leaned in to activate his ability before rushing off. I love this introduction because a guy is using his charm to dupe a female adversary instead of the other way around. In Cajun Spice, mutants have been outed and Rogue is also recovering from the events of Dark Horizon. The time she spends with Gambit is read from a comforting tone; both have childhood trauma being treated more like weapons by their adopted parents and still struggle to escape their past. Rewatching this episode, I notice Remy is actually more guarded and serious compared to his previous appearances (i.e. hinting at Rogue's guilt when he was staking out the school and cutting his dad off when the latter became intrigued with her powers). The episode even ends more platonically, with Remy giving Rogue his favorite card in a sign of reassuance. There was some tension, but it was downplayed as the writers never forgot their ages. Regardless of the kind of relationship they had in the comics, X-Men: Evolution knew it was a LOOSE adaptation and took some creative liberties that they followed through on. I won't lie, I still ship Romy in this universe, but I see them getting together after crossing paths in 5-10 years. (I.e. I LOATHE Rogneto after seeing Rogue have an orgasm everytime a 70 year old terrorist blinked)

Um...they kissed twice in the original series. They flirted all the time but I don't remember more than two instances (one was the Mkron crystal and the other was Morph luring Gambit by pretending to be Rogue in control of her powers) where they kissed. And she chose Magneto for the sole reason that he could touch her and they could possibly do some good by joining forces. I don't blame Rogue. I don't blame Gambit. It's a horrible situation. But the writing is pretty on point with my expectations.

I like x-men 97 but if there's one thing I wish they didn't put on the show is that they had Magneto and Rouge being former lovers. Just because it happen in the comics which they clearly got that idea from doesn't mean that they should have put it in the show. It should have never happen in the comic books anyway. Rouge never even had any interest in Magneto in the 90's animated series. It was totally out of character of Rouge when she welcome Magneto as the leader of the x-men just like that. That better be over for the next season of X-men 97. If x-men evolution come back they better not do the same thing in that show including the mcu.

This just made me realize that if basically the whole Magneto and Rogue relationship was already hinted in the original 90s series, I don’t think it would have been much of a problem. But clearly if we are excluding comic lore and following the show lore only. Then yeah, I can see why people are on the fence about Rogue and Magneto. It just came out of nowhere really. And from what I remember, there was never any interest between the two of them at all. Not to mention, how and where would they fit their meeting in the timeline again? But with Gambit throughout it all, clearly you see their interactions between them. Watch them get closer. I mean genuine question. Did anyone else who watched the original series even remotely picked up any tension between Rogue and Magneto at all? The series just made Rogue basically like a loose canon. Fickle even. Which I can’t completely say is bad per se, since Rogue started off as a Villain. But it does leave you wondering if Rogue is alright in the head.

According to the flashbacks, Rogue would have dated Magneto BEFORE joining the X-Men, when she was still in the Brotherhood. In other words, she was barely legal when Magneto took her virginity (in the comics she joins the X-Men at 17). The worst part is that her mother (Mystique) took her to the Savage Land so Magneto could be her teacher lol and the series at no point addresses the fact that she was groomed
