Biden is investing $30M to support drug harm reduction services that would save lives, but the GOP is freaking out because it goes against their official policy of “go fuck yourself.” Or, as the campaign was called in the 80s: Just Say Go Fuck Yourself.

Exactly, if people decide to shoot up fentanyl.. even if they don’t realize it well we tried our best by supplying the needle, what they do past that is up to them, we can’t control how much drugs come in because if we stopped every poor refugee at the border that would be colonization

This. Germany isnt even the only place to do this. Provide a clean, safe, judge free environment so people with a problem can at least be as safe as possible while they use. There are even upticks in people seeking reform through these services. Its amazing how much profit wins over people

As a recovering alcoholic and current medical-cannabis patient, I think finding out WHY people get addicted to drugs and then addressing those needs would be a good start to preventing addiction. What other ways are there to reduce emotional/mental/physical pain? How can those be easily accessed by those who need them most?

People usually turn to drugs to mask some other problem. When we tackle things like poverty, which of course Republicans will do everything in their power to make sure does NOT happen, you'll see things like drug abuse and alcoholism decrease. You'll also see less gang violence. It's actually not that hard to have a better world when you have leaders who actually want to make it happen.

I think there’s a common thread here between the “War on Drugs” and the “War on Abortion.” The stated goal isn’t the goal. They don’t want to help drug addicts or reduce abortions; they want to control people. If they actually cared about the claimed goals, they’d support things that work toward that goal, like harm reduction and birth control.

Thank you so much for this video. I used harm reduction services in Seattle when I was still using in 2010. Shortly after I had to move back to my home town in Oregon where the services where completely unavailable. I used to get free syringes and other items to keep me safer while using. I know I wasn’t living the best life style, but it prevented me from doing permanent damage to my body. It was a shock to move back to a community they completely opposed harm reduction and even tried to make me feel like a criminal for enjoying those services. In 2014 I had to leave my home town just to find a place that gave me a humane treatment option. No one near my town wanted to! They all told me it was my fault I couldn’t get clean. So I was thankful to find a medically assisted treatment facility 50 miles away. I had to drive there every day for 6 days a week until I got takeout medications. It was worth it. I’ve been clean since 2014. And that life saving medication I got is still not available in my home town. It’s so crazy! They need to stop stigmatizing drug users around central Oregon. That’s why I appreciate your video so much Sam. You didn’t have to report on this but you chose to. That makes you a triple platinum heroine. (I wanted to add on the e to avoid making a pun joke, maybe that was a missed opportunity.)

Harm reduction got me out of the pits of addiction that Vicodin cemented years ago. The all-too-churchy 12 steps were a roller coaster of guilt, shame and repeat. I could expound for pages but I am now living a happy life reconnected to family, returned to work and have a comfy home. The GOP will scapegoat addicts including your loved ones for votes and exploitation similar to how the GOP prison system treats Black and poor people. Counter intuitive and love based approach works better for addicts and society. Evangelical enablers of the GOP are pew trained to reject science and will sacrifice their own children. Are they monsters or victims of propaganda?

@@johnsumser9743 Only in the USA do so many people ignore how the social structures and systems create our problems. Evolution takes thousands of years, people haven't changed since the time of Jesus and they aren't going to change any time soon no matter how much you berate them. The obesity epidemic has nothing at all to do with personal failings and everything to do with how our human natures interact with the society we have created.

Wouldn't do a thing. The republicans aren't actually about fiscal responsibility, as can be seen by the ballooning debt every time they come into office. That's just a smokescreen for them to cut taxes for the rich at the cost of programs that help minorities and poor people.

The Republicans have made sure that the people they're preventing from getting harm reduction measures also can't afford medical coverage, and therefore won't get treatment at a hospital. It wouldn't be a cost-cutting measure as far as they're concerned, and since when did a Republican care about anyone but themselves?

The war on drugs is a perfect example of our ability to see our efforts result in constant failure yet still believe it'll work. No matter what we try people will use drugs, criminalizing them only succeeds in ensuring that the vast majority of those actually wanting to get clean won't end up doing so

One of the main reasons conservative oppose harm reduction is their conviction that sin SHOULD BE harmful. Committing a sin (and man do they have a long list of sins) without suffering for it is just wrong, in their eyes. This is also why they oppose birth control.

Portugal decriminalized drug use and addiction and went to a 100% harm reduction strategy 10-15 years ago. I heard a 20+ year, cleaned up, street addict there say he got clean because "the nice people" wouldn't leave him alone. Having watched the 15 year suicide-by- addiction of two beloved family members the R position is unchristian, inhumane, cruel and counterproductive in all ways they supposedly support. It's a travesty.
