Albert Bouchard is not only a seriously underrated drummer, but a musician as well. He wrote most of BOCs songs on early albums and continued writing after his ousting. Listen to any of his albums post BOC and BOCs post Al, and you'll hear a major difference in song writing. Buck is my favorite guitarist and Eric's a top singer for me, but they're just not the same without Al and his brother Joe.
@mikee2923

Truer words have never been spoken. Fire Of Unknown Origin was the last album with Albert. Prior to Fire, BOC were on a downward trajectory. Fire changed that. Had they kept the original lineup there’s no telling what could have been. I think Albert more than anyone else was responsible for the mystique and uniqueness that set BOC apart from every other band. They were still good but just started to fail to stand out from the crowd like they once did.
@sunjester8254
@sunjester8254 Жыл бұрын
@@mikee2923 I also neglected to mention Allen. While his input wasn't as great as Al or Joe, he was a much better musician than anyone they replaced him with. Sandy Pearlman's lyrics can't be touched by Jon Shirley either.
@mikee2923
@mikee2923 Жыл бұрын
@@sunjester8254 I agree with that, too. Allen was easily the most underrated member of the cult. The original 5 worked together so well they are all irreplaceable. Ritchie comes close to replacing Allen but BOC, while still a great band probably will never be able to recreate the magic that was BOC from 1972-1981.
@sunjester8254
@sunjester8254 Жыл бұрын
@@mikee2923 I'm not a fan of any of the new lineup, including Richie. To me, he sounds like someone who went to school to learn "shred" and fails to play with any emotion or creativity. Allen had a natural ability, and sounded pretty good trading licks with Buck. It's like with Buck. He doesn't have the technique of Van Halen, but he's no slouch, and the technique he has is used creatively and with feel. No one would do a solo like on Vengeance except for Buck.

Man I got to open for them back in like 96 or 97 at the grove theater in upland California. The other guys in the band said they didn't know who BOC was. I was like Kick out the jams, city on flames, GODZILLA?!?!. They looked at me like a monkey looking at a mirror for the first time until I said Godzilla. I think the band Velvet phallacio opened too. We were both really small local bands and opening for them is still the highlight of more musical life. They were cool as hell man. Didn't really have Roadies so I helped them with their equipment. Just a cool ass rock band but I was as nervous as a whore in church man. I mean Im really a hack with a good year who plays by ear, I played bass and was a wreck for the first song or 2 but I saw them watching us and sometimes looking at me like you would when you're watching a band. It made me comfortable I guess. The warm feeling you get from playing music for a band that you big brother turned you onto with a KTEL record back in 1979ish is a warm smile that you smile with your whole body man. I was so starstruck that I didn't even ask for autographs. But it's still in what's left of my mind. Now I'm knocking around with my so and his buddy as they try to get a band going and my ear still keeps this hack playing out of my league. Until they start wanting to play Polyphia and stuff like that. That just makes me kinda laugh at myself man.😀

In 94 I saw and met that version of, blue oyster cult in Charlotte NC at the Ritz. It was an amazing show. After the show I met up with all the band members and everyone was cool. Except the lead singer, Buck Dharma. He had an ego so huge that it was annoying. One thing I've always told my son is this. No matter how famous someone is, they are still human. Don't ever let someone intimidate you. With that said. After about 5 minutes of listening to this dude talk about how damn good he was, i shook my head and went to walk away. He literally reached out and grabbed my arm and told me he was not finished yet. I told him he was and to remove his hand from my arm. He looked at me like I just stole his puppy. I walked away and the guitarist walked up to me, smiled and shook my hand. He told me that he has always been like that. An ego bigger than anyone around him to be so short. So this dude is talking about Gene and Paul, he should also talk about his lead singer as well.

Had U.F.O. Opened for Kiss back in the 70’s when Michael Schenker was lead guitar Andy Parker on drums Paul Raymond rhythm guitar Pete Way Bass guitar and Phil Moog on vocals Kiss won’t have left the dressing room !! UFO was the most talented band band I ever saw !! I was a big kiss fan in Jr.High and even into high school but after seeing UFO open for Rush who UFO totally rocked right out of Baltimore’s Civic Center that night I was a giant fan of UFO Michael Schenker is 1 of the best guitarist ever bar none !!

Have a look at some of the bands who opened for Kiss. They weren't afraid to follow great bands . You don't bring Judas Priest or Rush on tour if you are insecure about following a good act

I saw BOC in concert in the 70s many times. They were always the best live show in rock. I saw Kiss and they sucked, we left thinking Gene Simmons only knew 4 notes. Lol no comparison Kiss was a puppet show

I believe every word, Gene and Paul are self centered ***holes. Ace Frehley and Peter Criss will always be the best members of Kiss.

they’d lord over you, is how one guy put it who worked for them. he described Gene Simmons as hard to deal w/ and watched everything they did. he was a roadie I think, but I always remembered him saying that. that Gene would Lord over him.

That guy was working promotion on the 2000 farewell tour. He said Gene watched everything he said around him when the guy's camcorder was on because the guy was buddies with Peter. There were two factions of the band. Gene & Paul then Ace & Peter

Yeah, poor Paul is still shaking his ass after all these years, he lipsyncs as vocal tracks are pumped through, plus guitar players offstage playing his and Gene's parts, it's pathetic and not worth price of a ticket

I saw Paul and Gene in a local night club in 83-84? After the makeup came off they had just played a show and it was Gene's b-day so they were out partying afterwards my friend and I were upstairs watching the spectacle and they decided to come up where we were when they walked past I gave Paul a look of disapproval was young had attitude never could stand the suit ace was the man lol and he actually looked afraid 😂 then they went downstairs again and lick it up came on Gene actually got on dancefloor rofl and danced to his own song and what was funnier is his teased up hairdo more like fro was moving to the music going back and forth hahaha 😂 never forget that Gene used to scare the carp outta me when I was a kid actually had nightmare and saw him standing in the doorway of my room laugh now but seriously 😮😐 oh and more cowbell please ❤😊

Yeah they were arrogant but Paul was 21/22 when kiss started, I think you’ll find a hell of a lot of artists and bands arrogant when they’re younger, and to those saying they’re not good, Paul Stanley wrote some of the best rock songs of the 70s and 80s and a phenomenal singer. May not be the best technically but bettered everyone when it came to live performances

KISS needed to test out the second version of the Les Paul smoke bomb / XLR halogen jack for ACE before going on stage for the first time. So instead of smoking up their own dressing room or catching anything of their own on fire, they went down the hall and kicked opening act Judas Priest out of their dressing room to see if the pyro worked.
