I covered lots of KISS tunes in bands. the opening riffs by Paul were a trick to learn by ear. Its all now on KZbin. He's right up there with all the rhythm greats -- Malcolm Young, Rudolf Schenker, Derek St. Holmes, Izzy Stradlin, Robbin Crosby, and the list goes on and on. I have watched this video several times now and every time I come away with more respect for Paul's guitar playing and I love hearing him talk about Rock and Roll - to us it's just music that helps us through our day, for him it's his life! Not just his life because he has made millions of dollars in KISS all these years, but more so it fully drives him and encapsulates him and THAT is what made him become a rock star, he HAD to play publicly, the music wouldn't give him another choice for him to be truly happy. Man, the tone he has that Les Paul at is awesome!! I knew and play every KISS song he played but holy sh** his tone blew me away. Many people do not know that about Paul either, he is a Les Paul guy. When we see him on stage he is always playing something like an Iceman (which I love) or some version of a Washburn customized guitar. But when he is home or in the recording studio and he is getting down to business and wants the best sound, he grabs one of his several Les Paul's. I don't care if you like KISS or not, after watching this and listening to what he said, you have to walk away having a little more respect for the guy, again not because of the band he is in but more so for his thoughts on the guitar and music and especially Rock and Roll!

KISS was a huge part of my life from 74-77! back then they were SURREAL to me like a extreme mystery, we did not know what they looked like or much about them personally. That was a big part of their charm and charisma. plus they had/have the best show ever! These days with the internet there is no mystique anymore! :(

The internet was a major factor for both the sky high prices for concert tickets, & people just not buying albums anymore. If a band can't sell the albums because people can download an album for a few dollars, the price is offset in ticket prices to see the band in concert. And going into a studio to record an album isn't cheap. Average cost in a recording studio costs easily $350.00 an hour, if not more.

Totally right, that mystery behind kiss is amazing and something that can’t be done today

Say what you will about Paul. To me he is one of my heroes that when I heard the chords of Black Diamond That was the drug that got me into playing guitar. I wanted to be like Paul. Songwriting, playing, singing, and showmanship. It was his quote “be yourself for your music” that helped me push harder to be my own voice. Thanks Paul

Great to see him play these great riffs and talk musicians talk for once (guitar strings for instance). With all of the jumping around on stage he sometimes neglects his guitar playing while being on stage. Not here. Despite what all critics say, Paul Stanley knows how to play guitar. I also like his heavy guitar sound. Great stuff this video.

I could listen to Paul all day. Great insights. Paul has always been a gentleman and Gene has always been a tool. I picked up on that when I was 10 in 1976.

I met Gene and regret it to this day. Paul I wouldnt mind meeting. A little late in the game, but I would like to meet Tommy Thayer as well. I have loved his work since being in Black and Blue.

I keep coming back to watch this video every time my solos start to suck and then I hear those wise words " You can spend a lifetime working on rhythm" absolute fucking legend. This made me want to buy a Les Paul . This is the best non Gibson add for a Gibson product.

This is what real rock and roll sounds like! Paul Stanley’s unique rhythm guitar playing is what kicks you in the balls, and commands attention, with the perfect combination of tone, power chords, and style, that is just as relevant today, as the very day he composed it! In my own personal opinion, he’s quite possibly the best rhythm guitarist ever! And, yes he is capable of some very good lead work, too. There’s actually so much more to his craft, than what most guitar magazines write about him. Paul is one of the few people I know of, who’s quite successful in every thing he sets out to do. His artistic ability really speaks volumes! I love and admire his accomplishments! 🎸

No tricks! Just “Heart & Soul” and the willingness to be noticed from a nobody made fun of kid, to the ultimate “Rock n Roll” Star! 1974 to 1979 Paul was the Star of Stars ⭐️!

Rock is all about rhythm. I'd rather listen to five minutes of well-crafted, driving, crunchy rhythm than a day of pretentious, "look at me" lead.
