My biggest fear was Hawkeye finding Mustang in those tunnels only for him to not hesitate in burning her to death by mistake because Envy just tried to impersonate Hughes. If it were the real Mustang to find Hawkeye, then I think that he would have.

Yea I feel like people who think Mustang should've just been allowed to kill Envy miss the point, the point is that somebody like Mustang shouldn't allow himself to be swallowed by his feelings of anger, we literally see the effects of that in Scar. Scar was justified in his anger and hatred towards the Amestrian government and State Alchemists but in pursuing vengeance he allowed himself to be consumed by his anger and hatred and it caused him to kill or hurt those that weren't even part of the crimes against his people and it only further propogated the cycle of violence he was trapped in.
