I think a point you guys forgot was that Mustang didn't volunteer to exchange his sight for knowledge. He was robbed of his sight. The stone is made and the deed is done. The power of the stone is being used to restore the robbed sight of the leader who is intent on restoring the nation whose souls were used to make that stone. Imo, it was a best use of an unfortunate situation. The stone will produce a good to the people who were harmed.

@@neilweaver2356 did I tho? Or I just dislike nazis?
@neilweaver23564 жыл бұрын
@@claudiu6387 First of all, "Nazi" is an alternative name for the "Nationalsozialismus" or the National Socialist German Worker's Party. Since Mustang isn't part of this group, he literally cannot be a Nazi. Second of all, I think you meant to say that he's a fascist. None of his character development ever states that he supports giving up individual freedom for the good of the state (which, by the way, is the most common definition of fascism). Next, Mustang was a soldier, trained to obey orders without hesitation. He participated in the Genocide because if he didn't, he'd likely be court-martialed, then imprisoned or executed. Lastly, "healing the Ishvalans" makes no sense. You can't use a philosopher's stone to bring back a culture. But healing Mustang's eyes meant that he was able to carry out his duties and restore Ishval. So, in a sense, the stone WAS used to heal the Ishvalans. Therefore, I declare your point null and void.
@sakurap955 жыл бұрын
*Not to argue over the morality of it, but I'm pretty sure that the only way a philosopher's stone could be destroyed is if it all the souls are used up. Otherwise, those souls would be stuck inside that stone forever because it's a perfect material. So at least the last stone is being used to heal rather than destroy.
@foxfireespresso5 жыл бұрын
Technically Dr. Marco could have destroyed them with the circle on his hand he used to destroy envy's stone but that feels more of a waste than to help those who are suffering (even if it wasn't the souls in the stones choice to be used in that way since of course you're assuming what they want)
@Yal_Rathol5 жыл бұрын
@@foxfireespresso marco can unbind the souls, but we don't know what happens to them after, and many of the souls in the stones express joy at burning themselves out, so i think they would be fine with being used if it means their descendants are restored and the soul gets released from its bindings in the stone.

@@foxfireespresso i don't recall, it's been years since i read it, but as demonstrated with ed crushing father's stone, shattering the stone doesn't burn the souls out. they just fly off into the sky, and hoenheim being able to place souls in the environment for his trap shows that souls can be separated from the stone and the body and still retain their form, so unless marcoh is burning the souls out, he's just releasing them from the bindings.

@@inferno9103 Plus Mustang and Hawkeye really can't act on any emotions due to Mustang being her superior. So it would be against Military Rules for them to be in any sort of openly romantic relationship. Which is why the Author says she never had them openly admit their feelings. At best maybe when Mustang becomes Fuher she would step down and marry him and become the First Lady. Like General Grumman hints at when he says Mustang should marry his Granddaughter and make her the first lady and his Granddaughter is Hawkeye. Although I wouldn't be completely shocked if Hawkeye didn't step down and stayed on as his body guard. Unless Fuher are forced to marry if they are young enough. Which at that point doubt Mustang would accept marrying anyone who isn't Riza. Which might force her hand to retire from the military.

Nowhere in the story it was said that using the stone is gonna continue the soul's torments. The soul sacrificed when Ed, Envy and Ling left Gluttony's stomach _thanked_ Ed for being sacrificed. The souls are energy and once gone, they're gone. You are destroying the stone when you use it, it's nothing different from destroying it some other way. They were not only using the stone for a good cause, they were allowing the souls to _fight_ the way Alphonse did against Pride. And Mustang didn't do nothing wrong to get his punishment. It's not anti-ethical at all.

What a beautiful journey! I never get tired of rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, especially with cool people like you guys! That's the beauty of reactions, rediscovering your favorite stories through the eyes of other people, and it's twice the pleasure with such a great crew! For me, FMAB is straight up my favorite story of all time, I even put it above Game Of Thrones, Harry Potter and so on (the only thing that tops it is the LOTR trilogy by Peter Jackson, but that's more for personal reasons than objective ones). Great characters, great stories, great themes, and great lessons ... Everything I aspire my future stories to be! (not sure I will ever reach it, but it's good to aim for the top :D). Thanks again for the ride!!! See you soon for the bloopers!

I would have left the exact same comment (except for the LOTR part, still have to read it all), but about reactions, how amazing FMAB is, not just as an anime but as a STORY, how it is above GOT and all to me, and how I wish the stuff I write will someday reach this level. Just thought it was weird how similar your comment was compared to the one I was about to post. xD
@prinstyrio05 жыл бұрын
Same here, I've watched a fair few FMAB reactions and I still love it. I'm happy it was one of the first animes I watched and it remains my favourite story between all mediums, whether it be live movies, series, games, books and so forth, I think it's a masterpiece that checks out on so many things that makes a story great. It'd take an essay to probably break it down why, there's so many big to small things it gets right and continuously. I've had my interest in writing my own novels and stories, and FMAB is a big inspiration. Obviously it won't be like it, but there some things I felt FMAB did well that I think is important for a good story. There's one very important thing I feel FMAB made it stand out, and that is that it feels very tightly packed, with things going on all the time, bits of the story unveiled and new mysteries revealed, emotional rollercoasters, conflicts and triumphs coming and going constantly, and each character from side to background playing a role in setting up these scenes to make the world feel rich around the protagonists instead of focusing too much on them.

That philosopher's stone is a prison for those souls, there is not purpose on it remaining as a stone that later might be use as who knows what. Mustang is giving those souls a purpose to help their people and rebuild Isvhal. The Elrics didn't want to use a stone to fix their mistake, but Mustang didn't lose his sight by one of his, it was robbed from him. On top of that, he took the responsability of fixing a mistake from the all nation against Ishval. We saw a similar situation when Al used the stone to fight, those souls were grateful.

Something to be said about using the stone... obviously we can't ask the ishvalans in Marcoh's stone, but the people from xerxes in Hohenheim _did_ agree to be used to save Amestris and fight Father... of course Hohenheim could and did ask, something which isn't possible with non-sentient stones... but if they agreed, it's also _possible,_ at least, that those sacrificed ishvalans would have agreed to help Mustang help their surviving brethren, too... and, the only other possibilities were to leave them trapped in the stone forever (or, rather, until someone with less scruples or knowledge got hold of it and used it for some other purpose), or have Marcoh destroy it (as he did with Envy's)... and we don't know what effect _that_ would have on the trapped souls...

Exactly. If using up a stone somehow hurt the souls inside it, then it would've been wrong to kill the homunculus. A soul's existence in the Stones is described as a tempest of bitterness and torment (basically they're in hell). At WORST, using a Philosopher's stone is putting those trapped souls out of their misery. Outside of that, there's at least a chance those souls can rest in peace, and go to whatever afterlife there is in the FMA universe

YES! That is the feeling you get after watching FmaB. Something I at least have with so few shows that I can probably count them on two hands. When it's over ... it's just satisfying, well-rounded ... wholesome. Every character has their arc and by the end of it, you are in that weird state that you know you'll miss this show and you don't really want it to end, but at the same time it's so wholesome that you're perfectly content with the end anyway and don't even really want a prequel. the perfect show.

Watch the bloopers! Also if you think back to the first episode with Isaac McDougal the ice alchemist trying to freeze central and he was trying to save the country. He totally knew what was going down and was trying to stop it 😂 not that his way of doing it was right but it was funny that he was actually trying to save people in his own way the entire time.

@@sadekmiah3122 I'm actually not watching much newer shows at the moment, or any old ones. There's a few though but it's limited to anime like AoT (waiting for it to come back), Rising of the Shield Hero, and The Promised Neverland but that's about it. What's your recommendations?
@sadekmiah31225 жыл бұрын
@@lalalalisa41I was only looking for anime anyway. Not really watching anything now just Spice and Wolf. But I highly recommend Erased, Steins; Gate, Assassination Classroom, Parasyte, Deathnote and Dororo. Some are quite popular so you probably have seen them already.

It was great to go on this journey with you guys! FMAB is just one of those shows that I appreciate even more, every time I watch it again. I'm really happy to see that you guys enjoyed this show as well. Especially considering how on the fence Chris and kind of Suraj was about it in the beginning. Like Navi said, I would recommend watching the first FMA as well. The beginning of the series actually helps to flesh out the side characters more, and I think goes through the beginning parts really well. The ending was not as satisfying as FMAB, but it definitely was an interesting twist. Definitely going to miss watching this with you guys, but it definitely was a fun ride :)

I only started watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood last year because of your reaction to the first episode, and now you've introduced me to a world of anime that would otherwise have been left undiscovered. It's been an absolute treat of a journey and I'm glad I was with you all the way. Thank you so much for your reactions and reviews (and FMA:B's appearance in your skit!). I hope to embark on more journeys just like this one with you.

Man what a finale. It's been so much fun watching this series all over again with you guys and I'm so glad you enjoyed it as much as I do! Thank you so much for watching it with us! Oh! A few things: -Mustang didn't have the stache in the manga, so it doesn't have to be considered canon in your minds. -The family portrait at the end is titled, "Elric Family Portrait" as an homage to the first with Ed, Al, Trisha and Hoenheim -In the manga, Paninya and Garfiel actually weren't in the picture, that's a nice anime only addition! -Since Mei and Xiao Mei are included in the family photo, it's implied she and Al actually do wind up together -The last photo of Ed smiling by the train is meant to directly reflect Hoenheim; given the trench coat and suitcase and their general appearances, only Ed is happy whereas Hoenheim was haunted by his "curse"!

Ed and al can't use the stone because they freely choose to open the portal. Mustang was forced so it only makes since for him to get his payment back, also he is a high ranking official who has to deal with assassination attempts. He will 100% need his eyes literally and physically see ishval back at 100%. Do u want Hawkeye to be a nurse instead of a queen? Cause Armstrong sister is ready to steal that throne from a blind man, she don't care. He didn't open the portal, or make the stone and all he wants to do is help ishval.

I really don't get why people hate using philsophers stones. The souls are trapped already. If they don't get used they're trapped for all eternity. We have no way to get them back. Literally every one we've ever seen "used" for energy has expressed gratitude

I AGREE WITH THE PERSON WITH THE LOUISE HAT. YES. Thank you! The stone's fate should have been decided by Ishvalans, not Dr. Marcoh or Roy or whomever from Amestris. They should have just given the stone back to Ishvalan people and the Ishvalans would decide what to do with it. I don't understand why that wasn't the logical option. There are Ishvalan people who have clearly been maimed and hurt by Amestris and the genocide, so why is Roy any more deserving than Ishvalan people? IMO it is actually offensive for him, someone who carried out genocide, to use a stone made up of relatives and community members of those he killed.

I understand why people dont like Mustang decission but I dont think it is wrong because he didnt make the stone and the souls in that stone cannot turn back to their bodies. The damage is allready done so use it to do some good.

What makes this show so emotional to me is how they handle every single death. Whether it's the villains, side characters, or even the human sacrifices for Philosopher's Stone; every life has value to the Elric family. This is why we as viewers and the adults in the show get behind them because they will sacrifice themselves rather than hurt others. Their bodies are metal, but they represent the best of the humanities.

I don't see how Mustang using the Philosophers Stone is "unethical". 1. He didn't choose to use Human Transmutation so he doesn't deserve to be blind. 2. What are they supposed to do with the stone? Put it on a shelf and let their souls that have already been made into a stone be in vain? Why not use it to heal. 3. No one is gonna want Mustang as Fuhrer if he's blind. If he wants to be Fuhrer then he needs to be a powerful leader as well as a healthy one.

What a wonderful end to a series and what a wonderful ride it has been watching your reactions to it :) It seriously made my weeks so much better just knowing there's always going to be dropping a new reaction from you guys and I really can't thank you enough. I hope you are reacting to the Bloopers, and if you guys would be willing to take the time, it would also be absolutely awesome if you reacted to the 4 OVAs of the show. 2 of them are short and great and 2 of them are an absolute must watch, like a normal and awesome episode which fill in a few more gaps. Nonetheless, thank you again for this amazing journey.
