I love the debate of whether Hohenheim is good or bad, connected to the Homuculi or not. Because it's exactly what's supposed to happen at this point.
@BradleyMcCloud6 жыл бұрын
Spoilers? Maybe. Just to be safe, under the Read More I was sadly spoiled of the Hoenheim story back in 2003 when people were arguing about whether the anime or manga was better at the time, so by the time Brotherhood came out, I sorta already knew a few things. I'm kinda disappointed about that since people kept saying the manga was different.
@42Caio6 жыл бұрын
The anime screwed it up a bit. Mild Spoilers The manga shows Father rising for his chair and announcing he was going out for a bit one or two chapters before Hohenheim shows up in Resembool. The anime cut it out because it doesn't really connect to anything, and because the anime was still going at an extremely fast pace at this point (even though they were using new material), but it really gives one less evidence to keep the "They're the same guy" camp going. Another example of cut content due to the fast pace of this arc, during the events of last episode, Lan Fan and Ling fight Envy (they were cooperating with Mustang after Barry saved Ling, basically keeping disctactions away), which establishes the fact the Xing characters are able to detect the Homunculi by their abnormal chi. It's a really cool scene where Envy keeps trying to get away and mixing with the crowd but they always find him. That's omitted entirely from the anime. Thank goodness the studio found a better footing and pace later on, or else a lot would have been lost and Brotherhood wouldn't be as good of an adaptation as it is.

I'm surprised they didn't pick up on the fact that Hohenheim purposely asked Pinako about the body the brothers transmuted, after seeing the dog stop barking at him, and go into the hallway, (He knew Ed was there and would hear) knowing Ed would dig it up, and come to the conclusion that what they attempted was impossible, thus giving them closure. He *does* care about them, and that one simple implication gave them hope again.

A lot of people go "OoOh" at Winry's comment there at the end and the dub DOES make the line sound like she is swooning XD. It is actually meant to tell us that Ed had been struggling under the hopelessness of their research and was suddenly standing tall and confident in the light of new-found hope.
@NoctilucaBloom2 жыл бұрын
@Ambander maybe, but there's literal context behind it that implies it's actually his new found resolve that she's noticing. If you've seen other anime/manga, people's backs often symbolize many things. My hero academia for example. Not sure if you're familiar with the series, but heroes' backs invoking a feeling of safety in the people they protect is an abundant theme, since heroes literally stand between danger and civilians. Backs in the distance, as was used as a title in another fmab episode, are often used to symbolize longing and/or inadequacy for the person watching from behind. Ed and Al have been crushed by hopelessness for a while. This renewal of resolve helps Ed stand strong and tall again, and Winry notices how much he has grown. Wider backs/shoulders are equated with boys becoming men. So yeah, perhaps attraction is implied, but it's not exactly the point of the scene if you consider what took place right before. I don't think these are exactly unique to anime/manga but I've seen them often in the medium.
@lukeari98902 жыл бұрын
I partially agree with you, but there's no reason it can't be both--she's seeing him in a new light, as more of a man now that his resolve is renewed. It's especially the little conversation before where she mentioned that she didn't like men who were shorter than her. That tells me that this is the point where her perception of him is starting to change.

Basically what the Elrics understood in this episode is that a human being cannot be brought back to life. Before these events they just assumed stuff like "it is possible to resurrect someone, but we must have messed up something in the formula or the execution of the alchemy", when in reality it was just "if you die you'll stay dead forever lmao that one thing you transmuted wasn't your mother but just an empty shell". Damn this show is sad.
@ricefieldjim2586 жыл бұрын
** no spoiler** Just some info for nerds, **edit: reply contain spoilers* They didn't die because of high temperature. Philosopher stones are virtually indestructible by physical forces, it's why they call them "perfect material". It is the process of burning causes immense stress for their philosopher stone's healing potential. Because their flesh is being rapidly destroyed, their stones responds by rapidly using energy to regenerate them, and that output increases exponentially. So not for long, their stone's energy runs dry, they die.
@S-Flo6 жыл бұрын
Yup, the stones are functionally alchemic batteries. They don't actually bypass equivalent exchange, rather they substitute stored souls in place of the normal price for alchemy. Lust's stone could only create so many new bodies for her out of nothing before it ran out of souls to pay for the new matter.
@YOU_SHALL_NOW_PASS6 жыл бұрын

I don't really count a short skirt as sexualization. A panty shot, ridiculous "outfits" that barely cover nipples with a stripe, women fighting while wearing less than a bikini etc. yes. Winry's outfit, not so much. Even her tube top is something she wears underneath her baggy overalls. She takes off the top when she gets warm, I guess. I'm not even sure that that Lust reveal would count since they're making fun of it.

The only real difference between FMA Original and FMA Brotherhood is that Original follows the manga faithfully within the first 30 or so episodes before breaking off. Whereas Brotherhood sort of goes through the first 30 episodes within the first 12. For example, the incident with the Tucker family only lasted one episode in Brotherhood, but in Original it lasted around 4 episodes.

I like how they still haven't listened or payed attention when the characters say stuff like, "How many times am I gonna have to kill you before you stay dead?". The homunculi are beings made by philosopher's stones, which are made of human souls. Think of them as batteries that self-recharge, but only contain a limited amount of charges. Those charges are the amount of souls used when creating the homunculus. Heat isn't what's killing them. It's exhausting those revives, draining the battery of its soul charges. That's what kills them.

Lust was killed because her philosopher stone was used up. Philosopher stones are a perfect material that cannot be destroyed through conventional means (including high temperatures), but the homunculi draw power from the stones to regenerate themselves. While each stone has incredibly vast amounts of power within them (enough to seemingly break the laws of equivalent exchange) they can eventually run out of souls to draw power from, thus causing the stone to break apart. Mustang caused so much continuous damage to lust with his flames that her stone ran out of energy trying to regenerate her wounds, thus causing her to die. Another thing to take note of is that unlike greed who was reabsorbed by father, lust's philosopher stone was completely destroyed. Hold onto this information for later

And the bodies that were transmuted end up opening the portal of truth, with spirits and beasts of the deceased constantly grab, take, and grasp whatever material body they can connect to because of their entrapment in eternal darkness -- thus the reasoning behind how the homonculus become materialized with someone else's spirit. It also means that when you gamble with lives, you'll could get a demon, bad spirits ect... or maybe even something nice. You just need to offer something of 'equivalent exchange'. Not a spoiler to this series, mind you. :)

I just realized something that might stomp on the whole "I didn't kill my loved one twice" deal... Ed rode on the fact that the thing they created looked nothing like their mom. The hair was different, and the bones didn't match at all. The thing is... Al said that he remembered being IN that body. But it looks nothing like him either. What if the body they created was just the result of their alchemy and the materials they had, but it wasn't enough to bring the back the real thing because it's virtually impossible and taboo, so alchemy it's self stabbed them in the back by creating a monstrosity. I side tracked😅 Anyway, since Al was IN that body, there is no real proof that their mothers soul wasn't there before him, after him, or even with him. And that's especially for Teacher. The body might not have looked like their child, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. With Al, there's a better chance that they didn't harm their mother again because he was put into that body first. With Teacher, no one else was there to give up there life. She only lost parts of her organs. There's a decent chance that her child really was in there... and it felt the pain of having an artificial, wrong body and then died again... I apologize for this theory... but damn.😭

You know what would be awesome? If they animate the beginning parts of the series as OVAs to show the full story, in case people don't want to go back to the 2003 anime. This sadly will never happen Auu ._.

What would happen...if he transferred his soul to another body that already has a soul...would it be a greed and prince situation or would the stronger soul take over?

Finally reach home after working overtime ;3; Did you remember the name Hohenheim? Nope, stile Whorenhime It's april fools there? Well April Fool! They didn't transmute their mother! If you thought May was gonna be in every episode after hanging out with the also very elusive in the shadows wanted criminal Scar, then you were indeed mistaken, you did however miss her CHOPPER, Barry the Bastard Chopper. And Jean Havoc, one of the easiest to remember names next to Fu Are you sure they're different people? TURN OFF YOUR PHONE SURAJ! Marketa learned from her mistake 'Everyone' being their friends Armstrong and Ling, and not Greed and his gang Don't look like that Navi, Homunculi have Purple Eyes Glitchy screens too The Music is a highlight of the show, it sometimes sounds repetitive, but in reality most of it's a bit extra or a new twist to an older song, like the Undertale songs. The thing is they made the ingredients for a human, but not an exact human, what they made was a frankenstein of body parts, with Al's soul added in to give it life. Remember about liking Ed's style... Forget the arms, the abs and the ass, Winry's a shoulder kinda girl ;) There is a Manga, little note though, some things that happen in the show happen in the Manga at a different time, for instance, Lust is killed before Maria Ross is revealed alive. There is a fair bit of extra detail but I don't think it explains the full science of it SAY IT FOR THE BACK NAVI Well, there was a bright light shining down on Father, and you only see his beard and mouth. But don't worry, Navi can't know. The Truth (the white thing) is like a Personification of God, often it mimics the shape of its human visitor and holds the toll paid for the knowledge. The fifosovers stun CAN be used in exchange, the brothers are in search of a way to make one humanely, without sacrificing many lives. Not feudal era, post-war 1910s rural Germany. Alchemy slowed down technology a bit so we still have steam trains Tucker was trying to make a Chimera that could understand human speech _without_ adding a human mind, he cheated though. Greed's gang were Human Chimera hybrids used to be weapons, different intentions but Tucker used the same method.
